Sorry Bob, almost any club in Victoria would accept his nomination. You've just been hornswoggled* by the usual suspects such as Steve Price who satisfy their masters by parroting Institute of Public Affairs/Sky/Herald-Sun/Daily-Mail tripe.
* that's "duped" for those who're too young to have watched Hanna-Barbera cartoons back in the 80's.

SC, I will take up that $10 bet that he does not join Royal Melbourne, Commonwealth, Yarra Yarra . Huntingdale or Metropolitan golf clubs, which of course are amongst the most highly rated courses not only in Victoria but in Australia. He gained membership of Kingston Heath, which is up with those courses, once he become Premier of Victoria, long before his toxic reputation, meaning he has no reason to be a member of another elite club.

SC, Max Beck, the multi-millionaire property developer, who nominated Dan for that Portsea membership has said "It is all about a guy who just wants to play golf ". Fair enough, then I am sure Dan will have no trouble joining his local municipal golf club in Mulgrave.

You never played golf Bobby?
When joining a club, you consider. Quality of the course. How easy it is to get a booking at times that suit you. How many of your mates play there. Why do you care where he plays? Didn’t all this start with you suggesting he’d be blackballed by all Mornington clubs?

I did play many moons ago off a handicap of 11 but gave it up as I only played on a Saturday, then I took up punting full time and went to the track every race day. Golf took a back seat.

I believe it was "Neither here nor there" by Bill Bryson, but don't quote me on that.
He also once borrowed "Down Under" by the same author, but returned that on time.

Actually, you give me another idea, should we get a copy of "how to run a federal budget" perhaps the for dummies edition and send it to the federal Liberal Party? Trouble is they might not read the section about not using the federal budget to look after your rich mates.

Over 100,000 Americans now die from drug overdoses annually. To combat this crisis in New York City and save lives, Mayor Bill de Blasio decided to support an initiative rife with controversy: In November 2021, his government allowed OnPoint, a nonprofit, to open two overdose prevention centers, where people with addictions can inject or smoke drugs like opioids and stimulants under medical supervision to reduce the risk of overdose death. Upon taking office, Mayor Eric Adams, Mr. de Blasio’s successor, has continued to support the sites’ work. Some neighbors, politicians and media have claimed that the centers — one in East Harlem and one in Washington Heights — are increasing crime and public drug use in neighborhoods already burdened with poverty. But an important new study published this week refutes these claims. It shows that violent and property crime rates near the two overdose prevention centers (sometimes referred to as safe injection or safe consumption sites) did not increase any more than crime in similar neighborhoods elsewhere in the city. This was in spite of the fact that the police conducted 83 percent fewer drug arrests near the sites (likely to avoid deterring people with addiction from using them) compared with other harm reduction sites that did not offer safe injection. “We did not observe any increase in crime or disorder or any of the things that people worry about when they see an overdose prevention site opening,” said a study co-author, Brandon Del Pozo, an assistant professor of medicine at Brown University and a former New York Police Department precinct commander and police chief of Burlington, Vt. Previous research has consistently shown that harm reduction approaches that prioritize public health over drug-law enforcement do not worsen neighborhoods or increase crime rates. And most of all, these policies don’t lead to higher drug use among youth or people who are already addicted, and can increase the likelihood that they enter treatment. At least 200 such centers now exist in over a dozen countries around the world, with millions of injections recorded for several decades and not a single reported death inside a facility. The New York sites have been utilized over 90,000 times by around 4,000 people, with 1,100 overdoses reversed and no deaths. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/11/16/opinion/safe-injection-sites-crime.html |

And right on cue Bob, the gnome sprouts his usual self-entitled cr@p: Steve Price heads for the bunker in the Dan Andrews golf warWe were mightily amused on Wednesday at shock jock Steve Price’s reaction to the revelation on former premier Dan Andrews’ non-application for membership at the Mornington Peninsula’s Portsea Golf Club. “If Dan Andrews is allowed to join the Portsea Golf Club, I’ll quit, I’ll resign, I’ll tear up my membership and I’ll go and play golf somewhere else,” Price thundered, on Sky News on Wednesday night. But that wouldn’t be the end of Steve’s days on the greens. If his anti-Dan principles force him off Portsea’s “inclusive” fairways he can keep playing around the corner at Portsea’s posh neighbour the Sorrento Golf Club, where Price confirmed when we caught up with him on Thursday he had been a member for “quite some time”. Now, it’s not controversial to say there’s something of a class divide between the two clubs, which flirted briefly last year with the idea of a merger. Portsea is of choice for many working-class heroes — who may or may not vote Labor, who knows — while Sorrento is wall-to-wall rich-listers where you’ll pay more than $4000 a year for the top tier of membership, there’s a joining fee of more than $12,000 and a six-and-a-half year waiting list. |

Any chance Dan has of becoming a member of The National, another high ranking club, might be dampened a letter received by that club by an enraged member who suggested that due Dan’ s inability to recall issues at public enquires he may regrettably have that same inability to recall his score for each hole , which would further underscore concerns about his compatibility with the club.

Wonder what your un-named and most likely non-existent enraged member would have to say about this lot's compatibility:
![]() In a statement, the former prime minister Scott Morrison says he doesn't remember any such allegation from Lidia Thorpe nor being ... The Senate on Thursday censured Liberal Senator Colbeck for failing to recall basic “and tragic facts” about aged care residents, dismissing deaths as a function of aged care, and failing to take responsibility for a crisis in the sector. Today Prime Minister Scott Morrison cannot remember what he was minister for and when, and Peter Dutton cannot remember “who Scott's boss is”. Nationals member Barnaby Joyce says he ‘can’t remember’ the last time he spoke to…. Tony Abbott can't recall if he was asked to provide a reference for George Pell |

What golf club do any of those people aspire to join? If any member of any golf club has an issue with a potential member they are entitled to challenge their nomination. Golf clubs are open to all prospective members providing they meet certain standards applicable to that membership, which it appears a former premier of Victoria does not meet with some members at some clubs.
I presume those rules apply for most clubs whether they be sporting, business, or social clubs, after all Australia is a democratic society and who is admitted to any club is dependant on the approval of members.

SC, How do you think I would go if someone nominated me to join the Toorak branch of the ALP or the local branch of The Greens ? I doubt there would be enough black balls to fill the acceptance box, however I would not be getting a mate to say “ I am good bloke who just like to vote “.

In many cases very subjective decision making, irrespective of any laid down criteria or standards. And membership applications are more than occasionally decided upon by the club board rather than members.
As for suitability for membership, the same should apply to those deciding on same. For instance, an absolutely politically motivated assh0le like the bloke mentioned below should never be allowed a vote. Simply because he's a politically motivated assh0le. Have been told Scott "Scummo" Morrison has become a member of the St Michael's golf club in Maroubra. Joining fee $14k, annual membership $4.5k.
If true, how the f8ck did this disgraced has-been ever pass the character test? ps his application for Hawaii Links membership was apparently withdrawn.

Don't sully the waters Tlaz.
![]() The interesting thing down here in Vic, according to my three appalling long-life mates who for their eternal sins are members of sand-belt courses in SE-Melbourne along with several more on the Mornington peninsular. Important to note that the three comprise a rusted on right-winger, an unaligned voter, and a slight leftie. However they all agree that motions to refuse membership are almost exclusively moved by members or supporters of conservative politics. Make of that what you will.
