So you reckon an inquiry will be like a Morrison/Gaetjens type inquiry?

PT, do not think any former MP would ever face criminal charges but the head of Prime Minister and Cabinet, Phil Gaetjens, confirmed at the time he has put his investigation on hold due to concerns raised by the ACT’s Director of Public Prosecutions that it could “prejudice criminal proceedings now on foot”.

So allowing someone suffering from a terminal illness to ease their way out of life is barbaric but making them suffer through it is OK?

Funny you mention that Stayer.  My eye surgeon wears a mask,,all the time. Saw him first over 3 months ago.  Have had 2 eyes done since then,  and go back for the after check up each time, and in he comes with a mask.  Sits there looking down at the files, mumbling away to me with all these instructions.  Cant understand a bloody word.  Then tells me off when I get the meds all wrong.
This in Newcastle, NSW, so its not just in Vic.
Like ?   Why on earth is he still wearing the bloody thing ?   Unless he cant stand everyone,s breath ??

Despite Dan having a low golf handicap his nomination to join the Portsea Golf club has been "blackballed" by members, as one member has said "Dan is just toxic down here and his time as premier was too fresh in the minds of some members".

SC, as a conciliation maybe someone should nominate him to join the Neangar Park Golf Club, reputed to be the best golf club in Bendigo, as I do not fancy his chances of any further memberships in Melbourne.

I believe he is already a member of Kingston Heath, which is a top-grade course having hosted Australian Opens in the past.

Cheers Bob, have played Neangar myself, indeed a most egalitarian club.

The Andrews situation reminds me of a couple of other attempted black-balls.

One was where Neil Harvey sought support from members of a prestigious Sydney club to deny Ian Chappell membership: a move which failed and promptly precipitated Harvey's resignation.
The other was when an aging Don Bradman was instrumental in another equally prestigious club refusing membership to Lleyton Hewitt.
The latter speedily got around that imbroglio by joining Royal Melbourne which had a reciprocal arrangement with Kooyonga, so Dan may well be looking to exploit a similar back door entry. Wink

The principal reason Dan is despised by all golf club members on the Mornington Peninsula goes back to Dan's Covid 19 restrictions.

Dan, supposedly because he classified the Mornington Peninsula as metropolitan Melbourne, golf was banned but on the other (western) side of Port Phillip Bay all golf courses were open for play because it was not classified as metropolitan Melbourne, despite the distances from the Melbourne CBD are similar.

Could it be that because the ALP held all the seats bordering the western side of Port Philip Bay and none on the Mornington Peninsula Dan made that decision?

Barwon Heads on the western side of the Bay is the same distance from the Melbourne CBD as Portsea on the Mornington Peninsula, yet they could play golf in BH and not in Portsea. What do you make of that?

The Committee for Mornington Peninsula, along with Australian Unity, has commissioned a study to identify the social and economic implications associated with the Mornington Peninsula's current designation and whether a regional designation would derive a net benefit for the local community and economy.

Introduction

Although the Mornington Peninsula has technically been considered part of Greater Melbourne for over 30 years, the Peninsula has special character and importance with a role that is distinct from and complementary to metropolitan Melbourne and designated growth areas.

Apples and pears Bob.

Mornington Peninsula has been considered part of Greater Melbourne for over 30 years.  Not so Barwon Heads.

The population of Rosebud is 14,000 at a density of about 882 people per square kilometer.  Barwon Heads has a population of 5,500 at density of just 97 people per square kilometer.

That maybe so, but what about Geelong, which is much closer to Melbourne than Portsea and has a higher population density and during Covid lockdown was treated as a regional designation.

No wonder Dan is despised on the Mornington Peninsula..

I'll wager you $10 he's admitted as a member at one of the more prestigious courses on the Mornington peninsular such as Moonah Links, The Dunes, Eagle Ridge or St Andrews beach.

This exclusion business is little more than a deliberately orchestrated beat-up by local rusted-on right wingers*, the Herald-Sun, and your good self.  Wink

* including the peninsular resident Steve "Garden Gnome" Price who's stage managed the anti-Andrews comments attributed to, needless to say, unidentified locals.

And just received a tip off from one allegedly in the know, ie that the President of Portsea Golf Club doesn't necessarily accept that there's a significant groundswell of antipathy towards Andrews, so subject to receiving a nominator and seconder for his membership will most certainly be putting the vote to his Board which alone has the responsibility for accepting or rejecting applications.

And breaking news just to put this bullsh*t beat up in its true perspective:

Readers of Melbourne’s US-owned tabloid were told this week that members of the Portsea Golf Club – which is not “exclusive” and we want to be perfectly clear about that – had revolted against a potential membership application from former premier Daniel Andrews.

The whole thing caused quite a fuss in local golfing circles, but it turns out that but it turns out that the club itself was, well, a little nonplussed at finding itself in the spotlight.

So club president Phil Cramer got on the front foot on Wednesday with a bulletin to members clearing a few things up.  “We wish to clarify that, contrary to these reports, no formal membership proposal for Mr Andrews has been received by the Club,” Cramer wrote.

“The Portsea Golf Club prides itself on inclusivity and diversity of membership, and in fact has a reputation of being a very welcoming club for all to enjoy playing golf and fellowship.”

Portsea, which lives a little bit in the shadow of its posh neighbour, Sorrento Golf Club – which is definitely exclusive – has no waiting list and even ne’er-do-wells like your CBD crew could afford a social membership, at $112 a year, at the time of writing.

The place is “inclusive” after all.

According to that dreadful rag the Herald Sun, a spokesman for Victoria Golf club said his membership would be welcome, which of course is not on the Mornington Peninsula, but in suburban Melbourne.
