Some sort of sense has prevailed and the owner has overruled the trainer and they are at least going for the big prize, The Makybe Diva.

Whilst I doubt he wins that at least it is on a better track, group 1 and an extra week.

Thought it was a top run today.  Ridden upside down, clearly under instruction, and held on very well.

Can probably win a Group race this Spring if they settle just forward of midfield instead of near first or near last.

And drop to group 3.

For me I think the Lexus or Queen Elizabeth would be his go, as a target.

Looked to race more genuinely on Saturday, was able to take up a spot on the speed and didn't seem to hang in as noticeably.

With Russian Camelot going Cox Plate/Melb Cup do they look at a Caulfield Cup with Dalasan? Would drop to 52.5kgs and that SA Derby form looks strong given the run of the 3 placegetters on Saturday.

Leon was able to get a Caulfield Cup win out of Southern Speed, at $34 is Dalasan worth a look?

I could live with Dalasan going straight to a Toorak without another run.

Surely that run for 4th yesterday was enough to convince connections to go to the Caulfield Cup?

Has the quality to run well in the cup, but he needs everything to go right, from the barrier draw on the Tuesday.

I can smell a Southern Speed type run coming, but we will need $21 or more.

Best I've seen him look in the yard before his race , starting to fill out and looking a lot more mature the previous campaign, it's probably all he needed , time to grow into himself. I like.Wink

Billy Egan has been booked to ride Dalasan in the Caulfield Cup.

Confess I don’t really know too much about Billy.  Seems a competent enough jockey in standard races around Victoria.

But has he got much big race experience?

Dalasan's Caulfield Cup jock shock

Andrew Eddy
Jockey Billy Egan and the connections of Dalasan have come to an agreed compensation figure after Willie Pike was officially named the new rider of Dalasan in Saturday’s Caulfield Cup.

Racing Victoria chief steward Robert Cram confirmed on Monday the agreement for compensation between the two parties after the connections of Dalasan opted to replace the already-booked Egan with Australia’s leading rider for winners.

While no figure was made public, it is understood the pair may split any earnings made from the race. A jockey gets five per cent of the prize so if Dalasan wins the Caulfield Cup, Pike and Egan could share in $150,000, depending on the deal.

It was just less than a week ago that Egan got the call-up to ride Dalasan for the first time in the Caulfield Cup.

Pike, a four-time winner on Caulfield Guineas day, suddenly became available last week when his intended mount Port Guillaume was injured and forced to miss the race.

For co-trainer Leon Macdonald the scenario with the riders was a familiar one.

In 2011, it was intended for Clare Lindop to continue riding the Southern Speed through the spring carnival but she was replaced by Craig Williams for the Caulfield Cup and he duly got the job done at the odds of $10.

“And just like this horse, Southern Speed ran fourth in the Turnbull Stakes in her lead-up run,’’ the veteran trainer noted.

As for Dalasan, Macdonald is confident the $17 chance in the latest Sportsbet market can impact. ‘’He’s done really well and I think with just 52.5 kilograms, he’s ready to run a big race.’’

Wisdom has been chasing me but I've always outrun it!

I thought his run was very plain yesterday, he was there with the runner up and not far off the winner around the turn but couldn't go with them, suspect he either lacks the class for that level of racing or 2400m is just to far for him, perhaps a little of both.  I'm sure djebel will blame the trainer and the fortnightly racing but!

Maybe if they want to see if he can run the 1.5 mile the Hotham, Queen Elizabeth could work or even the Zipping Classic, although I suspect they'll consider the Mackinnon.

I thought it was a verry tough run, I was actually surprised he finished with in 6 lengths of the winner.

If he was trained by Aiden O'brien he'd be a far superior horse than his results indicate.

The 2nd and 4th place getters came from behind him and went around him, the winner was only 1 or 2 lengths in front of him in the run, he also carried a less weight than all of them, I don't see how you think he had a tougher ran than any of those.

His run was ok, after being posted wide the trip.

But not sure why connections persist with backing him up to race every 2 weeks.   When you look at his form, all his major wins have come when he’s had 3 or 4 weeks between runs - Danehill Stks, Carbine Club, Port Adelaide Guineas & Chairman’s Stks.

So maybe the Mackinnon Stks (if the field falls away) or preferably the Sandown CLassic (where he’d be suited by smaller field & drop in grade).

Looked like a jaded horse yesterday.

He’s a talented horse for sure, his Craiglee & Turnbull runs were excellent.  But still a winless Spring.

Not sure where he fits in for 2021?  Maybe a St George Stks would be a good race to chalk up a win

Running him over 1200m first up is a waste. 1400m first up minimum OR just get him fitter and go mile first up.

Playing devils advocate here, but his form at 1200 is very good. A win in the Spring Stakes over Scales of Justice, win in the Danehill, 2nd to Behometh first up this Spring, placed behind Super Seth.

Given his best form appears to be fresh (or at least with his runs well spaced) and on the basis that Arcadia Queen, Fifty Stars and others would appear to have his measure at 2000, do they try a different path and look at a race like the Goodwood fresh? At Set Weights and Penalties being a non Group 1 winner you'd think he'd get in ok, and his Morphettville form is outstanding.

I'm sure this idea will be met with unanimous praise.
