Has there ever been so many former black type winners & placegetters contest this race as there will be in the 2023 edition?

7 of the 13 runners have black type on their CV,

Third Realm & Rebel Racer are both black type winners.

Team Captain, Kings Crossing, Long Arm, The Map & Garachico all black type placegetters.

Perhaps strengthened by the mysterious disappearance of the Sandown Cup 3200m from the MRC’s Zipping Classic meeting.

I did not notice Horlicks had asked that question. It is a strange thing isn't it.

He did ask it 12 months ago. I've been giving it a lot of thought LOL

It really is a good race this year.

I love what Anthony and Sam Freedman are doing.

I was surprised Waller did not press on to the Melbourne Cup with Mr Waterville after his run in the Geelong Cup, That said he looks a little too short for my liking in the markets.

It's a bench mark 96 with zero black type status.

I know so I don’t know what it makes it a very good race. Sorry, but they look like walkers to me

Rare that I don’t agree with LH views on racing but the fact that most of those mentioned have black type suggests there are way too many black type races available LOL

Probably is a record, although given his regal bloodlines probably not what was set out to achieve. Never noticed before he’s a full bro to Serpentine.

Interesting that he’s also had 3 registered racing names.  Was originally TS Eliot when owned by Coolmore in Ireland, then had a name change to Yulong Captain when imported here to Aust, then changed again to Team Captain when bought by the Racing League Syndicate.

You couldn't actually discard him in this.

Though I've jumped in early and had 35 e/w Wahine Toa at $41/8 and $15 e/w Rebel Racer at $81/14.  Embarrassed

And will probably couple them up in weighted Tri's and FF's with 3 or 4 others.

There is a third, younger brother, named I'm A Dirty Rascal (formerlly King Of The Castle) with the three clashing in the 2500m quality hcp on Makybe Diva Stakes day last year, older brother Team Captain (6th) earnt family bragging rights from I'm a Dirty Rascal (7th) by 0.1L with the middle brother Serpentine 3.15L behind the youngest finishing last, he however carried 62kg, 8kg more then his brothers were both asked to carry.

I'm a Dirty Rascal is now in the Waterhouse and Bott yard and hasn't raced since last spring carnival, however he has had two trials, the most recent on friday, finishing 6th of 9 over 1200, stablemate (in ownership and trainer) Newfoundland, yet to start in Australia, ran 4th in the same trial.

A little niche record in this is it is most likely the first instance of two full brothers each running in the exact same race on the same card two years in a row, not quite as niche as full brothers Rightfully Yours and Heart of Dreams both running 7th in the Sir Rupert Clarke and Underwood on the same day but interesting all the same.

And those others are 3,4,7 and 12, hoping that if WT or RR at least place I might just jag an exotic.

Another good edition of this race run & done for another year.

Didn’t see any post race interview but whilst THE MAP didn’t measure up to qualifying for the Melb Cup, I hope Dan Clarken aims her at the Adelaide Cup next year.

MR WATERVILLE would seem to also be Adelaide Cup level material.  I backed him with confidence today, but was no match for the winner.  Amazed to see they paid $769,000 for him out of last years Tattersalls Horses in Training sales.  He’ll need to be astutely placed to recoup that price tag.

If Mr Waterville is trying, I suspect he might be unreliable, He could win any 2 mile race they set him for. It will not be up to Waller or his jockey. It will be him that decides whether he is winning or trying on that day.
