This would be why the positive decision was made on Bowman, McDonald & McEvoy Smile

Fully vaccinated travellers entering Victoria from red zones will no longer need to complete a fortnight's quarantine from Wednesday, as the state records 2,179 new COVID-19 cases and six deaths.

Health Minister Martin Foley said the changes to Victoria's permit system would take effect from 11:59pm October 19.

Previously, travel permits from red zones were only available to Victorian residents, who were forced to quarantine for 14 days regardless of vaccination status.

Under the changes, fully vaccinated travellers from red zones will need a negative COVID-19 test result no more than 72 hours prior to entering Victoria.

They will then need to quarantine upon arrival, get tested, and remain in quarantine until they receive a negative result.

It's nice that it's easier for someone from another state to get into Vic than it is for me to go see my family

So from next week you legally travel to Melbourne from Sydney and back, but can’t go more than 25km within the state?

That makes no sense

Connections are weighing up their options with leading Victoria Derby contender Forgot You and contemplating a start in next Saturday’s $5 million Cox Plate.

The lure of 49.5kg, a potential stud deal and the stable’s first runner in Australasia’s weight-for-age classic is weighing on the minds of trainers Natalie Young and Trent Busuttin, after the Savabeel colt closed strongly in the Caulfield Guineas.

“The Group 1 Derby is there regardless which way we go,” co-trainer Natalie Young admitted.

“But if he was to win a Cox Plate... nobody really wants to stand a Derby winner.

“We’re thinking about it and in discussions with the owners.

“We can go to the Vase and go close to winning that or take the big weight drop.

“The sensible thing to do would be go to the Vase but it’s not every day you get a horse to run in a Cox Plate.

“Zaaki got beat the other day, so I really think that opens it back up.”

Connections Ozzie Kheir, John O'Neill and co. won the Cox Plate last year with Sir Dragonet and they would require a jockey for their three-year-old hopeful.

“Daniel Moor can’t do 49.5 kilograms so we would have to change pilot and that’s what we’re thinking about at the moment,” Young said.

“The 49.5 is so enticing and he’s two from two at The Valley so it’s swingable.

“I think he’s a proper horse.

“He has come through the run brilliant, has been down the beach and seems nice and bright.

“I thought the last 200 metres was great, but the barrier cost us and just put us back a bit and not on the tail of Anamoe when he balanced up.”

A winner of the Group 2 Stutt Stakes (1600m), the three-year-old would need to be given the nod by the MVRC committee to take his place in the lineup.

Finishing sixth in the Caulfield Guineas, So You Think won the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes before finishing fifth in the Caulfield Guineas and going on to win the race, while more recently Grandslam finished third and Royal Symphony fourth and got the nod to compete in the Cox Plate.

Currently a $71 chance with Sportsbet, a potential start in the Cox Plate leading into the Victoria Derby may not be where the campaign ends for the colt.

“If he goes to a Derby and wins we are toying with the idea of backing him up in the Cup,” Young professed.

“They used to do it years ago.

“That’s the ultimate plan but we will have to take each run as it comes.”

While Efficient was scratched ahead of attempting to complete the double in 2006, Nothin’ Leica Dane finished second to Doriemus is his attempt back in 1995 while Arena tried in 1998 finishing fifteenth.

Now this type of tripe is starting to really piss me off.

If he wins the Cox Plate winning a Derby will not take that away.

These two trainers are complete dimwits.

They have kissed up some very handy colts over the last 2 years.

This looks like the likely field at this stage - Keiai Nautique and Forgot You probably the slight queries but as a Japan G1 winner and Moonee Valley G2 winner respectively I'd expect they'd get approved by the committee.

1. DALASAN (McDonald & Gluyas/Daniel Moor) 59kg

2. ZAAKI (Annabel Neasham/James McDonald) 59kg

3. KEIAI NAUTIQUE (Matthew Smith/Craig Newitt) 59kg

4. GOLD TRIP (Maher & Eustace/Damien Oliver) 59kg

5. CALLSIGN MAV (John Bary/Luke Nolen) 59kg

6. MO’UNGA (Annabel Neasham/Hugh Bowman) 57.5kg

7. VERRY ELLEEGANT (Chris Waller/Damian Lane) 57kg

8. PROBABEEL (Jamie Richards/Brett Prebble) 57kg

9. STATE OF REST (Joseph O’Brien/John Allen) 56.5kg

10. ANAMOE (James Cummings/Craig Williams) 49.5kg

11. CAPTIVANT (Snowden/Dean Yendall) 49.5kg

12. FORGOT YOU (Busuttin & Young/?) 49.5kg

Current Odds:

2/1 Zaaki, 3/1 Anamoe, 7/1 Verry Elleegant, 8/1 State of Rest, 10/1 Gold Trip, 12/1 Probabeel, 20/1 Captivant, Mo’unga, 25/1 Callsign Mav, 33/1 Dalasan, 50/1 Keiai Nautique, 66/1 Forgot You

Of the other hopefuls that were slated to run here - Superstorm is more likely to go to the Cantala, Colette the Empire Rose and Hungry Heart will run in the Golden Eagle or Empire Rose Stakes.

No on this occasion I do agree.  We have seen much stronger Cox Plates.  But having said that we might see a blinder of a race so who knows.

I've seen plenty of weaker Cox Plate fields than this one. I'm sure Mr Timeform will back me up here.Tongue

People complain most years about the field, if it has a champion like Winx they say there's no opposition and it's boring, if there's no champions they say it's weak.

Anybody who thinks this is not a good field is a d1ckhead. They're however entitled to their opinion.

I agree with djebel. anyone who thinks this is a weak race needs to take a good hard look at themselves and reconsider why they like the sport. some people just whinge, whinge, whinge about how weak Aussie racing is, blah blah blah, why do they even follow the sport if they hate it so much?

Same thing happened last week with the CC and the winner came out and ran one of the best figures in the world for the year.

I said it could end up a blinder.  On paper looks different to most years.  But we've had maidens win - Shamus Award.  And look what he's done in recent years at stud.

We've had out and out champions win - like Winx, Phar Lap, Kingston Town, Tobin Bronze, Tulloch, Sunline (I'd be creamed if I left her out).

We've had duals down the straight with Bonecrusher and Northerly years standing out.

We've seen them go early - Makybe Diva and Winx.

We've seen three year olds Octagonal, Shamus Award, Surround, Savabeel, So You THink.

We've seen the winners go overseas to race or go to stud -  like So You THink, Sunline, Strawberry Road, Noholme, Dhaulagiri to name a few.

Might say two of the above names are prominent in our latest Australian racing find Incentivise.  He's by Shamus Award.  He carries two crosses of Noholme.

This race delievers every year even when we don't expect it too.

Talking about great Cox Plate fields, was this the greatest field ever assembled?

For drama, the 1992 Cox Plate is unmatched.

It is simply one of the most talked-about races in 99 editions given what happened on the racetrack that day.

It was a vintage Cox Plate field with the likes of champions such as Let’s Elope, Better Loosen Up, Super Impose, Mannerism, Sydeston and Rough Habit taking part. Champions of their time, some entered the twilight of their careers, taking rising star Naturalism, who looked to have their measure as a $2 favourite.

What happened at the 600-metre mark of the race is still regaled today like it was only yesterday.

With 600 metres to go, the recent Caulfield Guineas winner in Palace Reign was up front before, for no apparent reason, he crossed his legs and fell heavily with jockey Peter Hutchinson dislodged. Most of the trailing field managed to avoid horse and rider, except red-hot favourite Naturalism who was travelling sweetly in the run and ready to make his move, and Sydeston. Both horses lost their riders in the incident and were out of the race. It was pure mayhem.

As racegoers were trying to digest what had just happened, there was more chaos to come in the closing stages as in the straight it was every man for themselves, with horses shifting in and out. Let’s Elope veered in and interfered with several runners including Better Loosen Up and Prince Salieri. Meanwhile, Greg Hall on Super Impose, who had been out the back watching the action unfold, sailed past his rivals to win at $17.

For trainer Lee Freedman it was a bittersweet moment. He has just won the Cox Plate, but he had concerns for his star galloper Naturalism, but after being told the four-year-old had suffered no serious injury, he was able to soak in the remarkable performance by his stable’s veteran in Super Impose. A “super athlete” was how Freedman described the winner, “he covered a lot of ground with each stride, and he had tremendous acceleration,” Freedman recalled.

An emotional Greg Hall, standing high in the saddle waving his whip, said as he came back to scale: “To win a Cox Plate is fantastic, but to win on a great old horse like Super… well… that is something else.”

Let’s Elope placed second, however not for long, with interference she caused in the straight to Better Loosen Up severe enough to push him back into fifth place when the protest was upheld.

The race was so good a Melbourne independent band Mr Floppy put out a song entitled the 1992 Cox Plate on one of its albums, with several commentators’ versions of the fall and then the finish spliced into a song. It was an experience to see them play live – fair to say it didn’t translate that well to the music punters.

Let's not leave out the three year olds in this field, fillies like Burst (Slipper winner) and Slight Chance and the the might four year old Kinjite one of my faves.

An upset trainer Matthew Smith said he does not understand why his Japanese horse Keiai Nautique was eliminated from the Cox Plate field on Tuesday morning.

The Warwick Farm trainer heard the news of his horse’s elimination just 30 minutes after the horse had trialed at Randwick and he said he was left stunning by the decision of the Moonee Valley Racing Club to have just 10 runners in their feature event.

“I am upset because I don’t understand it,” Smith said on Tuesday morning.

“It’s not even a full field. What’s the damage of him going around? He’s a good horse and he’s going well and he trialed super this morning (fourth) so I don’t see what the damage would be.

“If it was a full field and we got tossed out, I would understand it.

“I wouldn’t even consider putting in a horse in a race like that unless I thought he’d run well. You don’t want a horse in the race that runs out the back.

“He’s going as well as Fierce Impact and he ran sixth (last year) and this horse would do at least something similar.”

Smith said the horse’s exclusion meant he was unlikely to send the horse to The Valley this week to contest the group 2 Crystal Mile.

“I don’t feel like running him there (The Valley) but we’ll definitely go to the Mackinnon and we’ll see how he runs there.”

MVRC chairman Don Casboult announced the committee’s decision to exclude Keiai Nautique just after 9am and he explained to Racing.com:

“We felt that his form was not good enough to participate in the field,” Casboult said.

“He has not won for three years. He won a group 1 race as a three-year-old and I think he’s had 20 starts (since) and over those 20 starts, he’s been placed on one occasion.”
