Oh deary me Bob, Vic Libs demand a face to face meeting with O'Brien tomorrow where the spill would likely take place but he says they cant have an in person meeting tomorrow because there are 31 Libs and Victorian COVID restrictions only permit 30 people indoors.

There seems to be a considerable volume of people trying to get back in, I would expect there will be some "accidents" with so many involved, and I don't think hotels are the right place for them, more likely army camps.

As Leader Dan accepted ultimate responsibility for the initial failure, though others were clearly more culpable. Health Minister and two Departmental heads in particular. The odds of Andrews "stuffing up" again would be rather minimal. But let me tell you something for absolute free: given their track record, had the State Liberal/National coalition been in power the Covid-19 positives would have been exponentially higher and half of us here would have been infected and/or dead set dead. Just look at their performance when last in Government and their entirely pathetic, rudderless opposition and current internal fighting between centre and extreme right elements as proof positive of their clear inability to get a root in a brothel let alone contain a virulent pandemic. |

SC, you may say the Liberals would stuffed up worse than the Andrews government but you are are expressing nothing more than your opinion. I will leave it at that, as you have no evidence to support your views.

True to a point Bob, were it not for the clear, systemic and riven political cancer that the State Liberal/Country Party coalition represents.
ps who's it's leader next week, or in 12 months time, or...? there'll almost certainly be three names to temporarily fill those voids.

FDA reveals six deaths in Pfizer trial as first peer-reviewed report on COVID vSix people died in Pfizer’s late-stage trial of the COVID-19 vaccine, the US Food and Drug Administration has revealed just hours after Britain became the first country in the world to roll out the vaccine. But the deaths are said to raise no new safety issues or questions about the vaccine’s effectiveness because all represented events that occurred in the general population at a similar rate, the FDA concluded. Its 53-page briefing report, released on Wednesday morning (Australian time) is the first detailed analysis of the vaccine trial by Pfizer and BioNTech, which found in November that its vaccine was 95 per cent effective in preventing coronavirus infections. The documents revealed that two people who received the experimental vaccine had died during the trial. Four others who died were on a placebo“All deaths represent events that occur in the general population of the age groups where they occurred, at a similar rate,” the report said. It confirmed the vaccine was, as reported by Pfizer, 95 per cent effective at least seven days after the second injection. Data shows the vaccine was just 52 percent effective after the first dose. https://thenewdaily.com.au/news/coronavirus/2020/12/09/pfizer-oxford-astrazeneca-vaccines/ Interesting, I have to disable ad blocker to post a link, started a few days ago ,previously was not a problem |

Ah, here we go. Reuters "There were a total of six deaths in the 44,000 person trial, with two
deaths among those who got the vaccine and the rest in those who
received a placebo, the documents showed. All deaths represent events
that occur in the general population at a similar rate, FDA staff said."

Hungary has loads of ventilators - paid top dollar for them - but not enough doctors. I mean, who wants to live in Hungary? Not even super patriot redemption. Hungary’s government has faced criticism for purchasing more ventilators than can be realistically deployed and for paying China much more per unit than other European countries. While Hungary purchased 567 tons of respiratory equipment from China for 482 million euros ($564 million), Germany purchased nearly twice that weight for less than 31 million euros ($36 million.) Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto says Hungary has permission to sell some of the county’s ventilator surplus to potential buyers. In the United States, some doctors now don’t see ventilators as the best hope for coronavirus patients and are trying many other interventions to avoid keeping patients off them if they can. Hungary’s shortages of health care workers predates the coronavirus pandemic: doctors have emigrated in large numbers since the country joined the European Union in 2004. Figures from the OECD show that around 1,400 new doctors were licensed in Hungary in 2017, but nearly 1,000 left the country the following year. Many others have left the public system to practice at private clinics due to low public salaries. Despite recent pay raises to doctors and nurses, Hungary remains near the bottom in the EU on investments in its health care system relative to GDP. Additionally, patients often pay tips or bribes to doctors in exchange for better treatment despite efforts to end the practice. |

Is the only way up? How the real estate market defied a crash amid the COVID recessionIn the pandemic’s early days, Commonwealth Bank economists warned the real estate market could crash if the virus ran rampant in Australia. If the country endured a “prolonged” economic downturn, their forecasts said prices could fall as much as 32 per cent. So, why didn’t they? First, jurisdictions outside of Victoria and NSW got an early stranglehold on the virus and relaxed restrictions ahead of schedule. Second, although unemployment soared, further losses were mitigated by JobKeeper – the Reserve Bank estimates the scheme saved 700,000 jobs – and additional federal stimulus. Third, a bevy of direct support was funnelled into housing. First-home buyers accessed an extended First Home Loan Deposit Scheme. And those building new homes could access $25,000 grants under the HomeBuilder Banks also supported those falling in arrears on their mortgages through deferrals that have been extended until March. And, finally, the RBA slashed interest rates to a record-low 0.1 per cent, enabling people with jobs to borrow more cash and bid up prices at auction. As a result, the housing market not only avoided doomsday predictions but is now reporting solid price growth across the board. My estimate of a 5% rise in prices may be low |

Aussie Home Loans boss said today they'd put on 200 more real estate brokers months ago (? I forget when) in the expectation of little difference in the market. Apparently it only droppoed 2%.
