Still say it is unfair to "push" these coloured horses onto an unsuspecting public who buy in simply on pretty colours, with not much chance of a return.
No wonder people get burned and never come back to the industry.
Ribbons in the show ring only.

In fairness, yesterday,s winner wasnt coloured, like the ones we have been sl*gging off.  He just looked pretty normal chestnut type with some white points .
His sire isnt hugely coloured either, just some white about the belly, and as furious say, some good race genes there.

3yo palomino colt by GLACIAL GOLD,(USA), whose progeny are sought after and are now in America, New Zealand, Europe, China and England and Australia.

He is the first foal out of GOLD BOLD and RICH, mare IADORE POPPY.

A stunning type.

This colt is ready to go to a new environment to futher his racing education.

To the best of my knowledge this colt is the most colourful registered thoroughbred progeny by Glacial Gold (USA) on the planet.

Not only does he posses the beautiful dilute gene which is responsible for turning chestnut horses to palomino,  and bay horses to buckskin, but he possesses the equally rare FRAME  OVERO gene which is capable of body patterns more akin to an American Indian horse.

To have both these extremely rare colour genes in an Australian Stud Book thoroughbred is almost a World First (only a handful at best can join this club).

If  he is used as breeding stallion it is worth noting that adding colour adds security to your progeny and means your progeny will have a real residual value and will be cherished beyond racing.

This colt will pass on his gold gene a calculated 50% of the time to offspring AND his frame-overo gene a calculated 50% of the time also.   Pretty cool!

This colt is not broken in and like all colts he requires a knowledgeable,  experienced home

Oi vey, he has Frame as well as cream.

Remember the discussion about where did Frame come from in the American thoroughbred, and how I said it could hide?  Unless this colt has some spots that aren't visible under the mud, or if that slightly lighter spot on his flank a third down from the back end of his wither is white, it's completely hiding.

IMO the Australian stud book needs to start labeling Frame carriers on registration papers and requiring testing for Frame as a requirement for registration.  Otherwise, this is how you wind up with lethal white foals down the road.

"If  he is used as breeding stallion it is worth noting that adding colour adds security to your progeny and means your progeny will have a real residual value and will be cherished beyond racing."

LOL what

MO the Australian stud book needs to start labeling Frame carriers on registration papers and requiring testing for Frame as a requirement for registration.  Otherwise, this is how you wind up with lethal white foals down the road.

Agree with this so so much.   Without it being identified it throws the door wide open to poor mating and poor foals being born only to die horribly.  It should be a rule its put on all rego papers.

Gay, he'd make a cute riding gelding.  As a racehorse prospect, he's fine if you want a homebred to race at the picnics, I doubt he'd be fast enough for more than that.  Depending on how tall he gets, polo or polocrosse might be a better fit for him.

I hope he looks better in real life than the photos where he's not stood up, or standing in mud, or leaning forward.  Those aren't kind even to the nicest looking of horses.

That always amazes me, how people trying to push their horse-for-sale as a beauty, yet they cant clean it up, stand it up, and get a decent photo of it.  They rave on about how great it is and what a stunning pedigree, and then the photo looks like something the kids might take to pony club, after a good wash and spruce up.   At least get someone who has a clue to take a decent photo to accompany the blurb.

Especially if they are, as in this case, trying to claim that the horse for sale has added value because of his looks.

The only reason this horse is (a) intact and (b) sold for as much as he did is that he's yellow and has spots.  If he were plain bay or plain chestnut, as 3yo who is not broke to saddle with very modest breeding for either racing or sport, he'd be lucky to sell for $500.

The amount of manure in the yard is embarrassing - and appalling.

I do hope he has a good (non racing) home, though. He has a sweet face.

And every 'pally TB' I have seen (pics only) looks deadset like a modern QH/paint!!!

So true, sadly, that if they were bay, brown, chestnut etc, they're be passed over.

To be fair, a great many purebred north american TBs look like quarter horses -- or rather, QH's look like the TBs that were used to develop the breed.  I've seen more than a few that would look right at home in stockhorse tack.

The single best thing that the new owner can do for this horse is break it to ride.

I've no doubt owners wanting that "Oh so pretty coloured racehorse"will continue to fork out for them & trainers happy to send out monthly accounts for the box they take up.
I guess when it's all boiled down it's little different to the still abounding indiscriminate breeding from inferior TB mares Cry

I think the horse I am thinking of was Glacial Gold.  Now I have never looked for him in the stud book so it could have been a furphy about him being a TB.  But I am going to look now.
