Trainer Chris Munce suspended for three monthsBy Luke Sheehan Eagle Farm trainer Chris Munce is set to serve a three-month suspension, after pleading guilty to charges relating to raceday administration. Munce was issued with a suspension along with a $5000 fine, after he was found to have given Lady Brahmos an injection before she was set to race at Eagle Farm in October last year. Stewards scratched the horse prior to her lining up in the race, after they learned of the then-alleged treatment. The four-year-old mare has since been transferred to trainer Stuart Kendrick. Munce’s suspension period will be from April 2 until July 2. “These breaches of the rules are disappointing and despite the warnings and ongoing pre-race testing, they are an ongoing problem for the integrity of the sport,” acting racing integrity commissioner Mark Ainsworth said. “Racing participants should be aware we are out there testing, and their practises are being scrutinised so if they are breaking the rules they will be caught,” he said. Munce had a heralded career in the saddle, winning all four of Australian racing's majors. However, his involvement in selling tips in Hong Kong landed him a two-year stint in prison that finished in 2008. Munce trained his first winner in February 2015, having hung up the race-riding saddle just weeks earlier. Specific Choice was the first of 303 winners he's trained, including seven stakes winners (according to Racing And Sports). |

Anyone know what was in the injection? I'm assuming it wasn't vitamin C.

He should be thankful it was only 3 months. He is a great poster boy for Qld racing, admitted to being a cheat. Got away with another one a while ago, thanks to a very understanding person.

I had visions of Chris hanging by his ankles from the clothes line, and he'd still be well off the ground.

By Matt Stewart, Racing Editor Chris Munce’s racing life of extremes has plummeted for the second time, with the former champion jockey and now prominent Brisbane trainer fighting a three-month suspension and $5000 fine for a breach of treatment rules. Munce has dispatched a letter to his owners, saying he will vigorously contest his penalty, which followed a raid of his Eagle Farm stables last October, the day before Lady Brahmos was to have contested a race at Eagle Farm. Lady Brahmos was subsequently scratched by stewards who charged Munce with breaches of race-day treatment rules and the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission handed Munce his penalty yesterday. While acting QRIC commissioner Mark Ainsworth said the Munce penalty served as a warning to others that they are being scrutinised “so if they are breaking the rules they will be caught,” Munce was adamant his offence was minor and the penalty too severe. Munce said Lady Brahmos had been given a vitamin drip the day before it was to have raced. “I consider it harsh and unfair and certainly not in line with similar penalties imposed by stewards, for offences of this nature,” Munce wrote to clients. “No illegal or prohibited substances have ever been or ever will be provided to horses in my care.” Munce, who was also found to have provided false and misleading evidence to stewards, said the penalty was “grossly unfair.” Munce’s suspension is scheduled to begin on April 2 and conclude on July 2 but he is seeking a stay and also an internal review of the penalty. In February, Munce pleaded guilty to the treatment offence. Munce began training at Eagle Farm in 2015 after a bitter-sweet career as a jockey. Munce rode over 2000 winners, including 42 Group Ones but suffered major upheaval in 2007 when Hong Kong authorities found him guilty of betting offences and Munce was jailed for two years. Munce has trained 303 winners and is sixth on the Brisbane premiership with 20 winners That was on RSN.com |

Has had his troubles, he also went into voluntary administration last year. Not sure how it was resolved, there wasn't much publicity around it.

His background doesn’t seem to bother RQ, QRIC or the BRC. They promote him constantly and chase the smaller fish. Let’s see, there will be an appeal which will drag on for two years, followed by another extension. In the meantime his wife, daughter or son will get a license and take over for 3 months. Then back to business. Plenty of trainers would love to treat horses within the timeframes but guess what? They don’t want to cheat. He pleaded GUILTY not a mistake by staff.
Kick his crooked butt out of the game

It's no secret Munce's record, as is Laming's and as was Weir's. Isn't is funny how people in the wash up don't care, it's just one of those things, nothing will change, when the BRC appointed that bloke who was warned off in SYD, disqualified, told to bugger off by the all powerful ATC, that was when it dawned on me how stuffed QLD really is, Munce will wear this like a badge of honour, Archie sunk the slipper into Munce but thinks the sun shines out of Ben Curries backside, so go figure........it's mind numbing and it's only the love of the animal that keeps the Blonde and I in the industry, and we're only hanging in there by our fingernails anyway.

I heard a whisper too, years ago, but never knew if it was true or false. Hard to know about rumours.

Well that news will be well received by Ben Currie and his legal team. Wasnt he charged with giving Boost paste the day before the race?? Forget those charges now. Precedent has been set by QRIC
