So we get the chance to spend a great deal of time with our kids in the near future, like many others, and wondered what others thoughts are on the different card games and their suitability / (mathematical) education for kids.
UNO has already copped it nightly, and growing up with it I may try to teach them crib, but haven’t really ever got into poker, bridge or other games.
Any thoughts appreciated

UNO never gets boringThumbs Up

If they learn Euchre, and then 500 those games are pretty universally played too.
In reference to every post in the Trump thread ... "There may have been a tiny bit of license taken there" ... Ok, Thanks for the "heads up" PT!

Love playing 500. Trouble with me i always want the kitty. And we normally value open misere as misere or alternatively ban it altogether. Nothing worse than having a slam hand & being outbid by a dope with a crap hand just calling open for the sake of it (& losing 9 times out of 10). But yeah.......great entertainment playing cards.

Oh our family has banned misere so many times it's not funny!  Lots of games to play - easier when we had four at home but we are getting on with it.  You can play a form of two handed 500.  Deal yourself three cards then face down three cards in front of you and opponent then three cards to opponents hand.  They four to you two cards face down infront of you and two turned up on two of the five face down cards - same to opponents table and hand.  Then three to you - three face up to your table and opponents and then there hand.  Oh at the end of each three/four/three the one in the middle! Then you still call on six, seven, eight etc but you have to win double what you call.  THe trouble is five unseen cards!  They can include all the bowers and the joker so sometimes you just crash and burn but it means if only two at the table you get an exciting game.

Another favourite with the children is Oh Hell.  Which in our house has extended to Oh Hell you bastard and Oh Hell to zero etc.

Oh with the 500 two handed its still only two cards played each turn - hense the double amount needed to win.

Thanks for the comments, i remember having a few learning games of euchre years ago thanks Doc but haven’t played since so will give it a go with the family. Not sure how we will go with 500 (especially your rules furious ) but we have plenty of time I suppose.
Our daughter knows a game called ‘bullschit ‘, wondering if that’s the same as your Oh Hell? furious, will find out.
