Oh sh1t, again.

At least four valuable broodmares have been tragically killed in a truck crash in the Hunter Valley in New South Wales early on Saturday morning.

NSW Police have confirmed the deaths of the yet unnamed mares, who were purchased at the recent record-breaking National Broodmare sale conducted by Magic Millions on the Gold Coast.

Police said two men believed to be aged 62 and 59 were being treated in hospital for non life-threatening injuries following the crash near Jerrys Plains just before 6.30am on Saturday morning.

The mares were believed to be in transit to one of the major studs situated in the region. The recently-completed sale saw a number of the countrys best bred and performed sold to new owners. The sale average was more than $230,000.

Coolmore Stud is near Jerry's Plains. I don't know if it was them though. I do know they just bought Mizzy for $2.2m, not that price = life

Very sad news. What were the names of the mares?

Yep 5 horses dead and 2 men injured.  Crashed into a tree about 6.30am.  They say south of Jerry,s , Coolmore is on the outskirts of Jerry,s on the north side ?

Terrible news for all involved.

Was travelling one week day a few weeks ago when a horse truck overtook me (I was doing the speed limit).  I hoped at the time he was empty and going to pick up some and not travelling so fast with livestock on board.

Terrible news for everyone and no one knows what happened.  Could of been a tyre blow out or ice on the road it's been cold enough.

Every time I post names I get shot down by the same few people, but if the mares involved are the ones that I was told then this is really horrific. Hope the drivers log books are all in order because the ramifications are huge.

Thanks Macca but she left because I kept betting on Wallers favourites, and kept missing the longer priced, well backed stablemates. Oh well, thats racing.
My new system is underway, and it involves drawing a line through any runner under $3 in SEQ that is ridden by jockeys from South Africa. Looks promising so far. EmbarrassedEmbarrassed

Who are the mares?

Surely were not waiting for next of kin to be notified?

There would be a lot of people in shock and grief over this. Trainers, strappers, jockeys, owners old and new. Imagine the carnage at the scene. Its unbearable to think about. They would be trying to ascertain whether its an accident or someones liable. Medical episode, mechanical malfunction, speed, did driver nod off? Lots of possibilities and money involved. I hope those poor poor mares died quickly, but I doubt it Cry So close to living life like a real horse in a big green paddock.

Its unbearable to think about.  The carnage and pain of those poor animals trapped in the back of a truck.  I just hope help got to them quickly, and maybe it did, happening close to a big stud.  We can only hope they didnt suffer too long.

Post off another racing page -
No. The ones involved were some of the best racemares and highest priced mares of the magic millions sale. So so sad...a disaster. I wish studs and horses transports wouldnt work their drivers for insanely long hours.

Have seen the names on an Aussie site. 3 belonging to the Shiek with Arabic names. One mare was ok. En route to the sales apparently.
