Brilliant debut winner at Bendigo today, only 3/4 seconds outside the track record for 1300m.
By Iffraaj so 1600m well within his capabilities. It's 3 months until the Australian Guineas, however with natural improvement and provided he has a freshener at some time between now and then would be right up to the required class imo. You first read it here.

Lovely motor and looked to be idling the last 300m or so today. Ayrton's been given plenty of time to develop so it'll be interesting to see how far he'll go.

That was another very impressive win in quick time. 1:21.96 compared to 1:22.71 in the BM78 Looks Group class for sure, maybe Group One. |

We think Iffraaj was the most underrated stallion the Kiwi's ever shuttled. Haunui is a great stud, they did their best and he stood for a very modest fee, we bought one of his first yearlings, she was the fastest horse I ever saddled, and I saddled some fast ones.
She won her first trial for me on the back of 3 gallops, we had to go to South Africa on business, I left her with a local trainer, she broke down, we kept her for breeding, fingers crossed. Iffraaj went on to sire the winners of juvenile breeders cup and had some absolute crackers in UK, including Rizeena, Ribchester, and of course he got Gingernuts the derby winner in NZ and the Rosehill Guineas.......The Kiwi's as is their mantra flogged so many to Hong Kong, how many top notches were in that lot, they didn't adjust to HK and that was their sad fate..Ayrton could be up there with the best, I bloody hope he is.

Passed in for only $40k which backs up the general attitude to wards Ifraaj. Synd. manager said this morning he's going to the paddock & depending on how well he does, will either head to the Autumn or Spring as they want to maximise his potential so won't be pushed.

Probably a wise decision , with inflated prize money in certain restricted age races available for him , they can have a bit of fun for minimum outlay.

Won as he liked, as you'd expect.
Racing.com discussion suggested they were looking to win an auto qualifier for the Stradbroke as his rating is too low to otherwise gain a start.

Price reveals leading contender for Ayrton rideRachel King is set to score the prized Stradbroke Handicap ride on Ayrton and the star Sydney jockey will jet to Brisbane next week to partner the boom galloper at trackwork. The Courier Mail can reveal that Ayrton’s co-trainer Mick Price has called on King and says the lightweight rider is “in the box seat” to ride the unbeaten excitement machine at 49.5kg in the Stradbroke. Jamie Kah will ride Ayrton in the Fred Best Classic at Eagle Farm on Saturday week in a race which the three-year-old must win to book his Stradbroke ticket. But with Kah ruling herself out of riding at the featherweight of 49.5kg in the Stradbroke, it seems all but certain another female riding star will take her place if Ayrton makes the Stradbroke field where he is the raging $3.50 favourite. “Rachel is in the box seat,” Price told The Courier Mail. “In discussion with owners, we think Rachel is a suitable choice to ride this horse in the Stradbroke. “I said to Rachel to make her position extremely strong, she would be best off flying to Queensland next Tuesday morning and giving the horse a course-proper gallop at Eagle Farm so she has a feel for him. “Rachel has a good relationship with Jamie Kah, and she rides naturally light. “She
is an experienced, seasoned lightweight rider and we feel she suits
good striding horses that roll along up near the pace.” King, who joined racing’s Group 1 club when riding 2018 Spring Champion Stakes winner Maid Of Heaven in 2018, has enjoyed a standout season in Sydney. She is sitting third in the race for the Sydney’ jockeys title, only behind James McDonald and Tommy Berry. It would be a major coup for King to ride Ayrton in the Stradbroke, given a host of lightweight riders including Glen Boss, Jye McNeil, Dean Yendall, Mick Dee and Ben Thompson have been floated as potential contenders for the ace ride. Meanwhile, Price has his fingers crossed that travelling to Queensland by float rather than air won’t be a problem for Ayrton. Ayrton had been due to fly to Queensland but was now set to leave by road on Wednesday evening after Queensland Health put a stop to a Tuesday flight containing Victorian horses because of a potential COVID issue. Price, who co-trains with Michael Kent Jr, said Ayrton’s trip to Queensland would be split into two segments and he would firstly travel to Sydney and stay at the stables of Gabrielle Englebrecht before continuing on to Queensland. “If the horse travels well it won’t be a problem, if the horse travels poorly it will be an issue,” Price said. “The main issue with horses travelling too far by road is travel sickness. “We will break the trip up, 10 hours and then have a break and then another 10 hours. “But you have still got two lots of ten hour trips.” |

His response has already been scripted Carioca:
If hit gets done: "a slaughter". If it wins: "won despite her". Mind you he still has to actually make the Stradbroke field. As I see it the main problem with his need to win on Saturday is the long, arduous float trip from Melbourne to Brisbane today and tomorrow, even given the lay-over in Sydney. A plane trip would have been quick and taken little out of him, and had it be known earlier they'd be thrown off a flight the horse would surely have left earlier to give him a bit more time to recover.

The budding star Ayrton is out of the race for next month’s Stradbroke Handicap after a shock loss at Eagle Farm on Saturday. In just his fourth race start, Ayrton was sent out a $1.50 favourite to win the Fred Best Classic (1400m) and therefore qualify for a Stradbroke run, but despite a perfect from Jamie Kah, he failed to pick up the leader Apache Chase in a tight four-way finish in the Group 3. Despite never being qualified for the Stradbroke, Ayrton was into as short a quote as $3.50 before his loss, but now will not make the field. Ayrton enjoyed the perfect trail in third place and looked set for an easy win when Kah got him into clean air in the home straight. But try and he did, he could not find that brilliantly finishing sprint which was a feature in his first three wins. After finding the lead his rivals were unable to catch Apache Chase ($11) who had a neck margin over Ayrton on the line with Newmarket Handicap placegetter Amish Boy ($16) close-up in third place. https://platform.twitter.com/embed/Tweet.html?creatorScreenName=fastisheddy&dnt=true&embedId=twitter-widget-1&features=eyJ0ZndfZXhwZXJpbWVudHNfY29va2llX2V4cGlyYXRpb24iOnsiYnVja2V0IjoxMjA5NjAwLCJ2ZXJzaW9uIjpudWxsfSwidGZ3X2hvcml6b25fdHdlZXRfZW1iZWRfOTU1NSI6eyJidWNrZXQiOiJodGUiLCJ2ZXJzaW9uIjpudWxsfSwidGZ3X3R3ZWV0X2VtYmVkX2NsaWNrYWJpbGl0eV8xMjEwMiI6eyJidWNrZXQiOiJjb250cm9sIiwidmVyc2lvbiI6bnVsbH19&frame=false&hideCard=false&hideThread=false&id=1398471596185047043&lang=en&origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.racing.com%2Fnews%2F2021-05-29%2Fnews-review-ayrton-loses-out-of-stradbroke&sessionId=3aa989fbf641c83a24b9c015ad1664b9b04a59ee&siteScreenName=Racing&theme=light&widgetsVersion=82e1070%3A1619632193066&width=550px" data-tweet-id="1398471596185047043" style="box-sizing: border-box; position: static; --tw-shadow: 0 0 transparent; border-style: none; visibility: visible; width: 550px; height: 578px; display: block; flex-grow: 1;"> "He was a bit disappointing today let off the bit, he wasn't as professional as he's been, but I'm still happy with him," Kah told Sky Thoroughbred Central. Winning trainer Desleigh Forster said she went to the races confident her Better Than Ready gelding could upset Ayrton and later confirmed Apache Chase will take up the ballot-free ticket into the Stradbroke. "He’s a serious horse," she said of Apache Chase in a Channel 7 interview. "I didn’t come here hoping, I was very confident coming here today. "They had their chance. As long as he pulls up well, he goes to the big dance (Stradbroke) in a two weeks and now we’re going to have to sit down and find someone who rides at 49.5kg." Ayrton’s defeat threw Stradbroke markets into disarray with Sportsbet putting up $8 the field with co-favourites The Harrovian, Wild Planet and Tofane. Co-trainer Mick Price indicated Ayrton’s campaign might not yet be over as he could run in the Group 3 Gunsynd Classic over 1600 metres for three-year-olds on Stradbroke Handicap day (June 12). |

In hindsight it's a huge ask for such a lightly raced horse, he'll be a superstar, no doubt, if he's looked after, and he should be in that stable.

“Big dope’’ Ayrton to make amends on Stradbroke dayMick Price says Ayrton went like a “big dope” when trying to race his way into the Stradbroke Handicap but has now revealed he never considered his hype horse was a pure sprinter. Ayrton was the raging Stradbroke favourite but failed to win his way into Saturday’s $1.5m Group 1 when tasting defeat for the first time in his four-start career, going down as $1.50 favourite in the Group 3 Fred Best Classic at Eagle Farm on May 29. The Fred Best was run over 1400m, with Ayrton finishing runner-up behind Desleigh Forster’s galloper Apache Chase who is now a $13 Stradbroke chance after taking out the “win and you’re in” Fred Best. Ayrton has never stretched out beyond 1400m but will on Saturday when he chases a consolation prize on Stradbroke day, set to line up in the $200,000 Group 3 Gunsynd Classic at Eagle Farm. Price, who co-trains with Michael Kent Jr, believes the 1600m will be ideal for Ayrton and he will get over further in time. “He went like a big dope in the Fred Best,” Price said. “As I was watching the race I was thinking when is he going to get going, when is he going to put his head down and have a real dip? “I thought he lost a bit of concentration halfway up the straight for some reason. “He had a bit of a blow after the race and Jamie Kah said he was still green and she was not convinced that he was as good this (Queensland) way of going. “But he will be tougher and fitter going into the Gunsynd. “I think his best distance will be a mile to 2000m. “I have never thought of him as a sprinter, the races have appeared in the book for him as they have appeared. “I
think the mile will be good for him, he will spell and get ready for
the spring in Melbourne after having a good tough time up here in
Queensland.” Despite Ayrton potentially being one of the most talented young horses that the vastly experienced Price has ever put the polish on, he now admits he always feared he could be vulnerable in the Fred Best. The astute trainer identified Apache Chase was clearly the one to beat, a tough on-pacer who had four previous wins at Eagle Farm to his name going into the Fred Best. “I’ve been in the game a while and I was concerned that we were facing a course specialist who was going to be up there and on pace and giving a big kick,” Price said. “They all say that Eagle Farm is a horses for courses track and I take that on board. “But I was disappointed that Ayrton didn’t flatten out, I don’t think we saw the best of him. “I was certainly disappointed he didn’t hit the line aggressively. “But in saying all that, he only got beaten a small margin.” Ayrton has been ridden by Jamie Kah in all four starts but she went back to Victoria after winning the Group 1 Kingsford-Smith Cup on Vega One, knowing she would be unable to return to the Sunshine State because of border restrictions. James McDonald will ride Ayrton on Saturday and will also team up with Price’s Group 1 Thousand Guineas winner Odeum in the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1300m). Now that Price doesn’t have a Stradbroke runner he will be cheering for Apache Chase, the horse who knocked his galloper out of Stradbroke contention. However he believes Apache Chase may have his work cut out. “Not many leaders win the Stradbroke, there is pressure in the sectionals and the race generally sets up for a horse that has had a good run midfield somewhere,” Price said. “I hope Desleigh (Forster) wins, she is a good trainer and he (Apache Chase) is a nice Eagle Farm horse.” |
