HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY!! A day to acknowledge how damn lucky we are to be living here . We take it all for granted of course but it’s a pretty good place we have here .

I think I heard someone suggest on TV today that Australia Day be moved to Jan 1, which is technically more accurate anyway, but you don't have to be too smart to see why that is very unlikely to happen.

Friday the 1st and Monday the 4th could both be public holidays.

The 1st is the day it should be.

It’s not going to be moved Max . Not in the foreseeable future anyway. Why bother ? The noisy minority will still complain .

Not that easy, the day is already a holiday, people wouldn't know what day it is, literally. No politician would want to be seen taking away a public holiday.

Once the Republic is established it can move to that day.

How many divisive threads do you want to start ?

Divisive threads started, pray tell. I often start threads to encourage debate, nothing more nothing less and as far as tis Australa day thread is it divisive to compare it to Halloween ?

Verry true.

Funnily enough I am not in favour of us becoming a replublic.

Certainly not whilst we are a majority of buffoonary right wingers.

Divisive to compare retailers optimising sales of Halloween costumes , yet not offending others by refusing to sell Australian flags ?
OMG

Why would you have to cancel the public holiday, just add it to the list of other public holidays most people dont care about, like Boxing Day, Easter Monday, Labour Day, Queens Birthday...

Right, so when Jan 1 is Wednesday, the two holidays are compressed into one day, or your are going to celebrate Australia Day on Jan 2 ? The yanks would not postpone the 4 th of July to the fifth.

Of course you are, unless you want New Year's day or Australia Day holiday to be held on a day besides the one it falls on, when it is a week day

I said I would wait till Republic Day, and whatever day that may be as a hard preference.

Just think Federation Day is a better alternative to NSW Settlement day now.

I dont waive a flag about or eat lamb chops in a show of fake patriotism/nationalism so am not wedded to a particular day.
