Gay just posted something about no personal insults etc so I'll refrain.
However, clearly the post was not about the act of burning the material. It was about the symbolism of the act meaning Invasion Day protests are less to do with Aust Day being Jan 26 and more to do with hating White Australia in general.

It really doesn't matter if they have the right to do it or night.
What matters is if there is every going to be a reasonable resolution to cease conflict between Aboriginals & White Australians. Evidence I'm seeing is nothing is ever good enough as even Invasion Day is not just about Jan 26 but its about Australia as a whole.

This popped up on my fb feed today. I stick by what I wrote a year ago.
It's here again. Australia Day. The day where those living in Down Under Land celebrate being the biggest drongos on the planet. We get out in the hot sun; have a picnic at the beach; watch commuter ferries race up Sydney Harbour; throw a lamb chop on the barbie; and generally look like dills, with Aussie flags tattooed on our arms and cheeks. It's also a day the original inhabitants march in protest and mourning for the British having 'stolen' their land two hundred and fifty years ago. Poor old Captain Cook had his statue likeness destroyed at Randwick...once again. This time he lost a hand and his nose, apart from the usual red paint splattered all over him. I feel for him. *** We are a nation who still seems to remain reasonably sane, in a growing insane world. We retain our weird sense of humour and still enjoy betting on two flies climbing up a wall. We make fun of our politicians; we watch endless amounts of sport; we are sacrilegious to a point of total nonsense. We are Aussies...and proud of it...despite the odd miscreant. So, today we celebrate our crazy but great nation. And, of course, I will commemorate Australia Day by watching a certain movie the Lovely Lady made down under. I think you might guess which one...

We live in one of the greatest countries in the world. A country where you don't need armed guards to protect the head of state. A country where you can voice your opinion without being incarcerated, even if all the trolls on fb immediately jump in to rubbish what you said. A country where the captain of the national cricket team is afforded a higher status than the PM. A country where we generally bitch about each other and never seem satisfied with our lot, but band together as one to cheer on our 100metre freestyle relay team at the Olympics, especially when we beat our biggest rival, the U.S. We are a country who gives generously to charity...to help victims of fire, flood or disaster, no matter who suffered. A nation who cries for children lost. A country who dresses up in pink every January, third day of the Sydney cricket test, to support women suffering breast cancer. The men dressed in pink always make me smile. *** We are definitely a weird mob...a mixture of races, religions, ideals and upbringings, who thank our indigenous forbears for allowing us to live in this glorious country, far away from the troubles of the rest of the world. Happy Australia Day. For all our problems, all our foibles, we are Aussie...Oi Oi Oi.
