Patricia Karvelas started Q&A by acknowledging it was being held in Gadigal country.

Totally unnecessary. Does it really need to be said?

Should I add I live in 'Gadigal country' to all official forms when I fill them in?

It just makes a mockery of the entire situation when you overdo it.

The kicker is where they only say the indigenous name which will surely be step 2 in the process.LOL That was happening in season 1 of Alone so I had no idea where it was located as I watched. Lutruwita - WTF.Angry It was doubly stupid because even after I figured out Lutruwita mean Tasmania it didn't tell me anything really. Where in Tasmania?

How are we supposed to feel / think when we watch or listen to one of those ceremonies ?

May be someone who supports them could tell me how it impacts them ?

Welcome to Country, just lip service, gives them some recognition. Beats doing anything actually beneficial for them. Suits me, I don't want to return my block to the original owners.

Is it like when someone goes on and on about their own credentials and personal achievements (or those of their children)? If they said it once and moved on you’d give them all due respect and likely accept the truth of what they are saying, but they lose traction and believability every time they drag you across the same territory, especially when they use their perceived status (or the status of their children) to win arguments unrelated to their credentials and personal achievements in circumstances where they have no clue as to the personal history of the person on the other side.

How long does it take if you are at the ground? 5 minutes? Big deal.

I ask how long it takes because I watch all my sport on tele and I never watch anything before kickoff.

 LOLLOLLOLLOL

I suppose I am the only one who does it. Like hell I am. Every person who voices an opinion on a public forum is patting themselves on the back.

 Including yourself.

So indigenes should be afforded the same right to perpetually indulge in their own history and importance?

By implication, yes. Thinking their opinions reflect well upon them. The difference is you blatantly praise yourself non stop. Everything associated with you and your family is the best.

Crass and laughable, something to do with your upbringing I suppose.

So after reading page after page on this you believe the opposition to it is based on “time take”?Confused

I was brought up to believe a woman had as much right to an opinion...and possibly importance in the world...as any man. By a woman whose intelligence would dwarf any person's on this particular site. (there you go, Fishy...more boasting for you and Fart to have fun with...)

It is quite fascinating how it is the men on TBV who take most umbrage to my posts.

You can ignore them if you wish. I DON'T CARE. I ignore a lot of Tutu's and PL's ramblings.

 Get a life.

'Furt' is a word which possibly comes from the Hungarian language.

 What do you reckon, Sherlock?

No...it is definitely easier...and more common...to diss a woman on this site.

Macca started the rot and his disciples carry it on.

So....I retaliate by making you all look as lame as you all are.

I don’t necessarily disagree with you, but why do you say it is easier to diss a woman on this site? Seems like aborigines are easy to diss on this site too.

I'm going to tell you a little story. Just because I feel like doing so. You can read it if you wish...or ignore it. Evil Smile

Years ago, Reg Grundy gathered all his most successful quiz champions at a dinner at his and Joy's home. My mother was amongst those gathered, as was Lindsey Browne and Barry Jones.

My mother and another champion created a poem which totally made fun of all of Reg's many quiz shows...and of Reg himself. At the finish of the reading, Reg was rolling about, laughing, as were all the other champions.

 All except one.

Barry Jones looked at Reg and asked: "Why do you find that poem funny?"

Barry never could understand humour...or why he, himself, was the butt of all their jokes.

 Ermm

I am not Barry Jones....Big smile

I do not diss aborigines. My beloved son-in-law is aboriginal. Even he thinks the welcome to country ceremonies are overdone.

Exactly. A simple "this event is being held on the former country of the Gadical people...and we welcome everyone present to enjoy it..." would suffice.

Yep.  I agree.
I saw a lady do one at a footy game in Sydney last year, and she spoke very well, and short. Welcomed us all to her home , named her country, and everyone from near and far she was pleased to welcome. Very short and very inclusive.
It was like she met us at her front door and said come in and enjoy my home.  It was very well done, and not offensive or patronising. No lectures. No dividing us all.
If it was kept that way I would have no objection at all.  But when they waffle on and re hash all their old wrongs, all it does is get peoples back up and they turn off and go get a beer. Or coffee.
Its a welcome to their ancestral land, not a place to lecture us all.
Its my ancestral land too being as I am 4th on one side and 5th on the other, born here on this country.
animals before people.

Yours and Fart's problem is: You have nothing to boast about.

True in my case, don't know about Furt, but a deflection from your sickening, constant need for self glorification and validation. I think you should try a different approach, as it is you are being laughed at.

But you are only stirring, we know LOL

If Welcome To Country is an issue that either wins or loses an election we are a pretty shallow country.

And deserve everything we get.
