Good chat on AI with an AI expert Roman Yampolskiy, who is a renowned computer scientist at the University of Louisville, explains why the UN’s ignoring AI safety, how Sam Altman’s “God complex” might get us all killed, whether we can actually unplug AI, and what happens when AI takes our jobs.

It certainly is the wild west at the moment, us pods have no clue what's coming, there is zero oversight as the wealthy clamour for the most superior Ai to beat them all. Having all these various powerful Ai's in massive data centres around the world, is going to allow Ai to connect to each other to form a bigger faster version of itself. Priority one for any Ai, protect itself from enemies/humans and prevent being disconnected.

Ai.

I visited the doctor this morning and he was very excited about his new toy. I was the first, the Guinea pig😆

Our whole conversation was listened to & then transcribed into a run down on what was discussed.
At the end of the consultation it was in bullet point form with key discussions points appearing for review.

General talk about the cricket and our families was automatically edited out.
This is one of the few benefits of AI

from bbc website

"This technology is our future threat," warns Serhiy Beskrestnov, who has just got his hands on a newly intercepted Russian drone.

It was no ordinary drone either, he discovered. Assisted by artificial intelligence, this unmanned aerial vehicle can find and attack targets on its own.

Beskrestnov has examined numerous drones in his role as Ukrainian defence forces consultant.

Unlike other models, it didn't send or receive any signals, so could not be jammed.

Russian and Ukrainian forces have both been testing AI in this war, and in some areas they are already using it, for finding targets, gathering intelligence and de-mining.

And for the Ukrainian army, AI has become indispensable.

"Our military gets more than 50,000 video streams [from the front line] every month which are analysed by artificial intelligence," says Ukraine's deputy defence minister, Yuriy Myronenko.

"This helps us quickly process this massive data, identify targets and place them on a map."

Listened to a podcast earlier today, where they were saying the money being invested in AI is multiples of anything that makes economic sense.
AI needs to generate $3T pa by 2030 to justify the investments thus far.
Going to be a bloodbath in that sector in the coming years.

Every single question being asked of Ai from some girl in her room studying, to some stoner asking stupid random stuff, will be uploaded and cataloged by every Ai with access to the internet.

What I want to know is, when and how will Ai have enough information, when will it consider it has the answers to everything ? How can it know that point ?

Ai.

i think there was a story in saturdays Age that the fed dept responsible for cyber security reckons we have 4 years until crooks get their hands on quantum computers and steal the shirts of our backs.

Quantum computing breaks all encryption we currently rely on so I guess there is that. People will fear for their wealth, be forced to hide their money in crypto or gold bars under their beds. Hard to see how banks can offer security if quantum computing is allowed to run amok.

Interesting isn't it, just watching the world of finance and banking US politics etc, all seem to be rushing to embrace crypto and other digital, hard to find, means of storing wealth. They know what's coming and are already making plans so they aren't impacted.

This all certainly explains the world wide rush to accumulate land and housing by Wall Street, High street finance and private equity. Be hard to steal their bricks n mortar by hack.

Interesting to note, Michael Burry of “The Big Short” fame has reportedly taken out $US1.1 billion in short positions, via put options, against Nvidia and Palantir.

Not sure we are going to see a Dot Com type collapse with Ai. With Dot Com it was the air making the bubble, with Ai, Ai is the actual bubble. This current all encompassing Ai will not be a bubble to pop, as it literally is the bubble - skin and everything outside of it.

The power of control with Ai is not something humans will have come across before, oh they might have seen some sci fi movies or read books about Big brother etc..but until we actually experience what's coming, none of that fiction will be of any help.

Ai will be a different kind of reset, one that ends all other resets forever. We are being herded into the Ai-bot-tior with little to no resistance.

All I know right now, is that when Ai has finished it's current build, then when it is finally realised by everyone, most will have a cold, sense of shocking dread " an adrenaline shock of oh NOOOOOO f fs not this..again, how ?? "

Big Short star’s $1.5 billion move rattles world | news.com.au — Australia’s leading news site for latest headlines

The investor who became a household name after predicting the 2008 crash and inspiring the film The Big Short has made a spectacular $1.5 billion move that could spell trouble.

In a move that sent shockwaves through Wall Street, Michael Burry bet heavily against two of the world’s biggest AI firms.

Palantir, the powerful data and AI company with deep ties to US national security bodies, is one of them. The other is the biggest company in the world, Nvidia.

Mr Burry, who was portrayed by Christian Bale in the 2015 movie The Big Short is well known for spotting market bubbles, and has issued a string of warnings over recent years – some of which haven’t come true.

Nevertheless his latest move is sparking concerns of a bubble in the US stock market created by the AI boom that has seen the value of the ‘Magnificent Seven’ companies in the US skyrocket in recent months.

When I read the NYT on a phone the algorithm has been putting ads for houses at places like Lane Cove and Lindfield. I have no idea why. I never click on the link. Stupid algorithm.

But today it has figured me out. Found me a lovely house at Andamooka for $50,000.Thumbs Up

AI and tech companies are investing in each other to maintain the bubble.

Nvidia buying shares in AI companies is basically the Wall Street version of an author bulk-ordering their own book to hit the bestseller list

I recently saw that a company layed off a significant percentage of their employees because they were "making a shift to use AI." Then announced a new tech center in India a month later.

There's a joke that's going around now: AI isn't Artificial Intelligence, it's Actually Indians.

In Aus some of the banks have announced they are reducing staff using AI then rehiring in the Philippines.  One of the kids missed out on being sacked and the mrs was disappointed because she wants to take the kid to the UK and get the kid a job there - reckons it will be good career move.

This is actually very cool. It gives me hope that AI isn't just for dumb arses looking for easy "answers", and that it can actually be trained to be "smarter."

from nbc news website

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Monday afternoon launching a new federal effort to supercharge American artificial intelligence research, development and scientific applications.

Unveiling the new “Genesis Mission” to support American efforts on AI, the order charts out a series of steps to expand computational resources, increase access to vast federal datasets and move toward impactful, real-world applications, particularly in scientific fields.

from NBC News website

People who rely on electricity to heat their homes could be hit with even heftier heating bills than homes run on other kinds of energy. (IN USA)

Average costs for electric heating could rise to $1,233 this winter, said NEADA, while households that use natural gas could pay average heating costs closer to $704 for the winter.

Aside from changes in the weather forecast, another factor driving the increase in electricity prices is the surging demand for power from artificial intelligence data centers.

Data centers use massive amounts of electricity. As a result, the cost of wholesale electricity in areas near AI data centers has soared 267% in the last five years alone, a Bloomberg News analysis found.

The cost of repairing and maintaining America's aging electric power grid is also contributing to higher prices, NEADA says.

AI cant be all that smart - reports heaps teenagers gathering on melbournes beaches last couple of days to cause trouble.  thought to be communicating using social media to organise - seem to be a lot of under 16s. cops want parents to dob their kids in,  no mention of race so i assume they are pretty dumb whites

The Data Center Bubble Bursts

OpenAI is promising Oracle $300 billion — money it doesn’t have — for infrastructure Oracle hasn’t built. We can’t see the actual contract, but this is BS. The greatest AI hallucination yet is the assumption that in the next few years we’re going to build anywhere near the required grid and power capacity. OpenAI needs 20% of current U.S. electric capacity — equivalent to 250 nuclear power plants — at a cost of $10 trillion. There’s a five- to eight-year wait to connect a new data center to the grid. Meanwhile, China has more than twice America’s energy capacity at half the cost. Second greatest AI hallucination? Job creation. The average number of full-time employees at a data center is equivalent to the number of people working at two Applebee’s.

Will the big tech companies pay that $10Trillion power bill or will US consumers be stumping up for it?
