Almost time to start our G1 Winners and Roughies comp.   As long as Liz is able to do the roughies I'll do the winners.  Or if she can't this time maybe someone else can step up.  The list of races coming up is:

Winx Stakes
Memsie Stakes
Makybe Diva Stakes
George Main Stakes
Invitation Stakes
A J Moir Stakes
Golden Rose Stakes
Underwood Stakes
Epsom Handicap
Epsom Handicap
Flight Stakes
The Metropolitan
Turnbull Stakes
Caulfield Guineas
Caulfield Stakes
Toorak Handicap
The Thousand Guineas
Caulfield Cup
Spring Champion Stakes
W S Cox Plate
Manikato Stakes
Ascot Vale Stakes
Empire Rose Stakes
Victoria Derby
Melbourne Cup
VRC Oaks
Cantala Stakes
LKS Mackinnon Stakes
Victoria Racing Club Stakes

Sorry furious, tried to remove Epsom x 2 but it left a gap so put it back LOL Many thanks & BOL in this upcoming series Clap

Turnbull Stakes 7/10/23 not on Melbourne Cup day.

Also could we add the Golden Eagle in? I reckon its worth having for this.

Hi all, I've spoken to furious about this and she has given her ok and also that she doesn't think it'll bother Dizzy either.  Had put the idea out there earlier to run on the Brisbane and Adelaide carnivals but it didn't take off there.

Thought maybe it could run parallel with the Winners and Roughies competitions here.

Lets called it the Starting Price (or SP) competition.  Formula below.

If no interest I won't be overly worried

----------

One selection per race, with the formula being Starting price (off the Racing Australia results) x prize money, divided by the placing.

Working with the Australian Cup, Cascadian would have returned $7.2 million, Numerian $2.7 million, Pounding $2.34 million, El Patroness at 80-1 would have returned $694,285.

The Vinery would have made an interesting one, 2nd placed Pavrita would have returned a tick under $200k, while 5th placed Byron Belle would have returned a tick over $280k.

Afros your suggested comp is for the most part exactly the same as the Roughies comp, except that in your case the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place-getters would have their (prize-money X SP) dividend divided by 2, 3 and 4 respectively because they didn't win.

However the "discount" has arguably been taken into account already by the reduced prize-money earned by the place-getters, so the divisible aspect would appear to amount to "double dipping".

Just saying.  Smile

If there is any interest in Afros' idea, I can easily run with the roughies.

All good mate, just throwing the idea out there, if there is no interest and it doesn't take off so be it, just thought it may present a challenge somewhere in between the roughies and winners selections.

I'm happy to look after it if it takes off and need be as I felt it would be a tad rude to throw an idea up just to palm it off to someone else to look after LOL

Hi all,
If the Roughies is in a google sheets setup I'm more than happy to assist (and can set it up that way if it helps). Things seem to have finally quietened down a little for me this season!

W: Zaaki
R: Hinged

What is the SP? Obviously been out of it for a bit!

Great to see you back, stormsiren. The SP comp is having its maiden run Big smile
Must admit my wee brain can’t compute how it differs much from the Roughies - despite Afros & SC’s clear-to-others explanations - but I’ll have a stab anyway!

W Lindermann
R Major Beel
SP Osipenko

I haven't got a clue here.  Has Think it Over come back if so big chance.  Is Zaaki the good or bad boy.  Same with Mo'Unga. Did Golden Mile's mind get effected during his last run (or I'd have him so wait and see)  I thought Fangirl might prefer it dryer but by this afternoon probably alright.

So easy went for Waller/Bowman as they have the most reason to win.  And took the three I've followed from the sales.

Ok, so looks like the SP one accounts for all runners in the money to some extent.
