Fair enough - however I'm not sure its any different now than its been for decades.

Jones was a massive failure last time around. Why anyone thought that would change this time up totally bamboozles me.

Rugby lost me as a supporter during the Jones / Gregan days. Totally over analysed & resulted in average results. When I heard him being interviewed after the Fiji debacle it was the same old stuff regurgitated from all those years back.

Always promising the world

they lost me at Super Rugby. Thumbs Down

Before then, I regularly went to Coogee to watch Randwick play. And I loved watching the Wallabies.

Now...pffft...  I'd rather watch the AFLW.

I remember Gregan being a breath of fresh air when he hit the Wallabies team. Very intuitive kid who could turn a game on a dime.

By the time Eddie had finished with him all those years later his whole approach was different. The post match interviews were more like a science / maths lesson LOL

Robbo will be out the door if he offers up another sub-standard season.

A roster like that should result in a Top 4 minimum.

"It was highlighted by a bizarre decision not to take a penalty kick from in front of the posts, which would have closed the gap to 9-10. Instead they went for a line-out, which they lost."

Jeez that must have blown the rugger-buggers minds.Shocked That just does not happen in rugby union does it? I know how much they love penalties in that game.Wink

Can't blame Eddie for that one.

In the old days Rugby was supported and reliant on Private School fellows.  That's no longer a given.
The fact that so many of the Wallabies squad are islanders who probably aren't good enough for League is proof positive.
The current Super Rugby comp is probably unsustainable in the longer term.
There is no real Australian domestic national competition.
Suggest Rugby Union in Australia is dying a slow but almost inevitable death.
Jimo.

I don't know anything about rugby union stats. The top rated Wallaby in the ratings in the Errorgraph next to Alan Jones lengthy rant is 7.5. That's a pretty high rating, right?

The player in question, Rob Valetini, "ran for 27 hard-earned metres and made 8 tackles".Shocked

27 metres, 8 tackles - is that good in rugby union for a forward?LOL

Not sure but there are 2 more forwards each in Rugby and there is a lot more kicking.

Cricket Australia appreciates the Wallabies.

If not for yesterday's disaster the media might be talking about Australia's 5th straight ODI loss.

Both can explain their woes away by pointing out that key players are not playing, for cricket thats some of the quicks, for union, some experienced heads.

The difference is one is preparing for a World Cup, the other in one.

Georgia just about got the job done for the Wallabies, going down 17-12 to Fiji meaning the Wallabies now need a bonus point win vs Portugal and Fiji to lose next weekend to the same opponent if they are to progress.  Not happening.

In other results, Argentina beat Chile 59-5 and Scotland beat Romania 84-0.

For each group the progress scenarios are as follows.

Pool A: France ahead of New Zealand, unless NZ manage to go down to Uruguay and/or Italy stun the French, neitrher is happening.

Pool B: Ireland win the pool if they defeat Scotland, South Africa will join them with a win over Tonga tomorrow morning our time, Scotland can also advance should they defeat Ireland.  Tonga also have a mathematical chance, should they perform the miracle and defeat the Boks and Romania and Scotland lose to Ireland.

Pool C: Wales need only to defeat Georgia to advance as pool winners, Fiji will join them should they defeat Portugal.  Georgia cannot advance even with a win over Wales, last night cruelled their chances.  The Wallabies need a bonus point win against Portugal and a Fiji loss to the same opponent to advance.  Portugal can also advance if they defeat both Australia and Fiji, I'm here for the chaos but that ain't happening!

Pool D: England will advance regardless of their result against Samoa next week, although a win or even a bonus point loss seals the pool.  Argentina and Japan play next week in a virtual knock-out match as the winner will advance in second.

Likely 1/4 finals, England vs Fiji, Wales vs Argentina/Japan, France vs South Africa, Ireland vs New Zealand.

Likely semi finals, England vs France, New Zealand vs Wales.

Final: France vs New Zealand.

Haven't seen any Eddie WC ads on tv lately. Maybe saving that cost to the pay $1.6m for Angus Crichton.

The All Blacks easily accounted for Uruguay 73-0 this morning, managed to average over 66 points a game in the pool stages.  Italy and France clash tomorrow morning our time to see who advances alongside NZ, with the biggest games of the weekend on Sunday our time, Scotland vs Ireland at 5am and Japan vs Argentina at 9pm.

The Wallabies will officially be put out of their misery on Monday morning.

Surely that would be massive overs for that bloke

Based on this years results you should be able to buy the whole Chooks team for that amount LOL

That is what they offered him.

Overnight, Wales did as expected and dispatched of Georgia easily, England laboured to an 18-17 win over Samoa, a bigger loss for Samoa than it looks in face value as a win would have given them a shot of finishing 3rd and gaining automatic qualification for 2027.  Ireland also conclusively put to bed any thoughts of a concocted result with Scotland to eliminate South Africa, easing to a 36-14 win over the Scots.

Two of next weeks 1/4 finals are now settled, France vs South Africa and Ireland vs New Zealand.

The final pool matches tonight first see Argentina and Japan clash in what is essentially a last 16 match up of sorts, with the winner playing Wales in a 1/4 final, Fiji play Portugal only needing a bonus point to book a 1/4 final against England, the other match-up is for pride only with Tonga and Romania both looking to finish with a win before heading home.
