Kicks off in two weeks with the hosts playing the All Blacks, these two joined by Ireland and South Africa as the 4 chances rated in single figure odds at present.

The Wallabies have what shapes as a competitive group based on rankings, with Australia, Fiji, Wales and Georgia ranked 8,9,10,11 in the current world rankings, Portugal at 16 round out the rankings.  Could be an interesting tournament for the Wallabies, with their 2023 form so far not looking promising there is a real chance they don't make the knockout stage.

Pool B is also interesting with South Africa, Ireland and Scotland all presently ranked inside the top 5, unlucky for Tonga and Romania in that pool.

Pool A is easy to figure out, New Zealand and France will walk that one with the only real question to be answered on the opening day when they clash.

Pool D could also add some intrigue, England should top it but behind them is Argentina, Samoa and Japan, so the battle for second there should be interesting.

If Georgia beat us in the first game Sunday can I ask that this thread go directly to the Laundry Basket

Shows how long I've ignored Rugby - Georgia would have been overs at $1.01 to beat us 15 years ago.

Georgia only 2 places and 3.64 ranking points behind the Wallabies, for reference Scotland at 5 are further in front by rankings points than Australia are on Georgia.  If the rankings are close to the mark Fiji at 7 should be favourites to advance from Group C, in front of Australia, Wales and Georgia.  Yet the bookies have the Wallabies long odds on to advance, Wales very short as well, Fiji 3rd elect with Georgia long odds to adavnce at all.

Be interesting to see who has it wrong, the bookies or the rankings.

All Blacks defeated this morning as well, now 14-1 to win their pool, with the French having to defeat Italy, Namabia and Uruguay to win the group.

Big game for the Wallabies this weekend against Fiji, win and they've virtually stamped their ticket to the 1/4 finals.

England also have a potential banana skin game against Japan, with Argentina and Samoa no doubt hoping for a big English win to help their own chances.

Pool B has a couple of easy results to pick, Ireland playing Tonga and South Africa playing Romania.

Pool A has the All Blacks playing Namibia, France defeated Uruguay 27-12 yesterday, Italy play Uruguay in the mid-week next week.

Interesting that the top 4 in betting are drawn to play each other in the Qtr finals. Bookmakers giving the teams in group C & group D practically no chance.

Wallabies have made it tough for themselves to make the knockout round with this mornings loss to Fiji.  They now have a must-win clash with Wales next weekend, defeat there and qualification to the knock-out phase will be reliant on Fiji losing to Georgia (possible) or Portugal (unlikely) for qualification.

Hilariously, a Wallabies loss to Wales and Fiji loss to Georgia could see the Wallabies finish 4th in their pool, the top 3 in each pool qualify automatically for the next World Cup, lucky they'll still qualify as hosts

Good point re the 1/4 finals E&E, interesting conundrum for Ireland and South Africa, would you rather face France or New Zealand in the 1/4 final? The winners of Pool A and Pool B will likely have a much easier 1/4 final than either of those two, so will likely make the semi finals.

This weekends South Africa vs Ireland match will be an interesting match.

Can't  expect much better having Eddie back at the helm. Not worth a crumpet. Heard him this morning justifying his young team selection - & that the team was a work in progress for the future. Was a little disappointed in the loss !

Since when do you use the World Cup - the biggest tournament - that occurs only every 4 years - as a training program for the future.

Over analyses & talks cobblers as always.

I wonder if Alan Jones is doing reports on this for anyone? He'd get a good rant up over the loss to Fiji.Angry

No doubt they'll go out and try throw big money at some more league names, Cleary and Crichton will be spoken about for sure, perhaps even someone like Harry Grant, but the reality is that they've let the game in this country to go backwards, there isn't a whole lot below Super Rugby level and thats only 5 teams.

They've thrown all of the eggs into the basket of the next few years with the Lions tour in '25 and the World Cup in '27 without considering that they need a competitive team on the paddock for both, until now.

Alan Jones has the solution - Quade Cooper, "a big game player and a winner". I thought he was a consistent flop but I don't pay much attention to union.

I think all of the Eddie critics had the Quade Cooper and Michael Hooper articles loaded and ready to go as soon as neither made the squad.

Ireland a big win overnight over South Africa, setting themselves up for a likely 1/4 final against the All Blacks.

There is actually a decent chance the semi finalists of this tournament could be England, Wales, Ireland and France.  Although logic suggests at least one of the Boks or All Blacks will find a way to get there.

Wonder if Joseph Suaalii will seek to get out of his Rugby contract. Wont be winning much with this mob.

He has sorted his differences at Easts caused by his manager and is staying next year.
