There might be hope for England yet, if one compares their performance in this Ashes series to that of India when the first toured Australia back 1947-48, and we all know how good India is today.
Australia batted first and declared at 8/382 ( Bradman in his only game ever against India scored 185 ). India were rolled for 58 in their first innings and were forced to follow on and were all dismissed for 85. Ern Toshack , the Australian opening bowler, finished the match with 11 for 31, even Scott Boland would be impressed with those figures. So maybe in another 75 years the English will turn the tables on Australia

I've just read they've had 15 straight Test losses since 2010/11. That'll take some turning around & the W. Indies sure won't be a walk in the park.

In other news - I know the West Indies have struggled for years and years but how could they lose a One Day International (ODI) series to Ireland.... 2-1 in the West Indies?...

That's depressing. I reckon I could still name a whole West Indies team in batting order back in the days of Viv etc.

Perth Scorchers Mens Big Bash League (BBL) Titles: BBL03 (2013-14) BBL04 (2014-15) BBL06 (2016-17) BBL11 (2021-22) I reckon the BBL11 Title might be the best out of all of them - they have been on the road since the 8th of December because of border restrictions due to COVID. They only played one home game at Optus Stadium. To be on the road for most of the tournament and win the Big Bash League is a great effort. One for the believers. #FourTitles #Scorchers #TheWest

Wouldn't mind betting Warne set this process in motion , said on tv that he ( Warne ) was texting a certain person about captain setting wrong fields for bowlers , don't forget his remark some years ago which he denied " straight to the brown nose gnome " , then said it was Joe the camera man .

Why don't fans stop going to games? Why vent frustration on social media and do nothing? The biggest statement fans can do is not attend games. By attending games they become part of the problem. CA will soon wake up once they realise crowds are dwindling.

The fact Langer had to change his whole persona to try to win back the dressing room tells you everything you need to know.
Australia won despite him.

Think they adored Darren Lehman. We saw how that finished.
Think they went from one extreme to the other. |

They have, when was the last time the sold out sign was put out front for an International match in Australia featuring anyone except for India? I actually don't recall a test match being sold out since the 2006-07 Ashes series.

We should never forget or fail to applaud Justin's commitment and fervor.
However micro management was apparently always his go, and despite claims of "minority" player disaffection it's understood most senior players had had a fair gutful of him as a consequence. He'll do just fine in his nascent political life. It's more a pity that the Board of Cricket Australia historically couldn't get a root in a bordello and, in accordance with history, totally stuffed up yet again. |

Spot in Djebel, you've hit the nail on the head. At the time of Lehmann's departure it was thought thst the culture of the team wasn't good, maybe the team or some players being too vocal or getting their own way etc plus their onfiekd behaviour. Then Langer is appointed, with a specific job to do...to clean up the culture of the men's team, which has happened but perhaps it went too far the other way to the point that it was too much and players didn't like it The big question now is - who will be the next coach? I think McDonald is the interim coach but after that stint there will be a process involved to appoint someone. There would be a few candidates such as Jason Gillespie

Jamal, at this level they don't need much coaching on how to play the game, they're already good at it, that's why they are in the XI, the coaching job is much more about having them turn up ready to perform at their peak on game day.
Ok they may sometimes need some technical advice on their game but most of them have someone outside of the coaching group they can talk to, like the famous Shane Warne/Terry Jenner relationship and if say a batsman feels he needs some technical advice I think he'd feel more comfortable talking with someone who is removed from the selection group anyway. Langer is an intense sort of character while Lehmann comes across as much more affable, it just seems natural that Lehmann would be much more popular with the playing group.

Langer had no idea. All he worried about was winning games.
Could only happen in Cricket !

Don't know about Marsh but I heard Simpson was not popular because he was too tough on them.

In 2019 was the first Australian team to retain the Ashes in the UK since 2001. Currently Australia is the No. 1 ranked test team on the back of a 4-0 Ashes victory and reigning World T20 champions.
Yeah but...he's a bit mean.

TJ, the team has achieved that despite Langer. Really the T20 was probably a fluke and beating England, well the St George first 11 would be more competitive.
Ponting has recently said most of the Pommy batters would not make any of the State Shield teams.

That is not quite how it will work.
Pakistan will be a tough tour. There are no lead up games. Sri Lanka should be a win and next summer should be as well V West Indies and South Africa. Anything can happen in a T20 tournament, the next coach is on a hiding to nothing. |

Langer obviously not inclusive enough.
Smith or Warner would be the go when they retire. Cricket - The Gentleman's Game
