This is going to be a most interesting sale, both in terms of whether physical participation will be permitted and how the market will adjust to the current uncertainty. It looks a strong catalogue but looks disproportionately weighted to a few stallions as opposed to a more even spread. Of the freshmen, Hellbent, Merchant Navy, Pariah and particularly Russian Revolution have been given every chance with strong representation across the board. I agree with Goldey on the other thread that the Russian Revolutions look like a really attractive, marketable bunch.
Who is nervous? American Pharoah vendors, I would suggest, potentially also those with a Star Turn? I am assuming that the market won't mark Maurice too hard yet. I'd be interested on views on Capitalist - he is going OK but he has had absolutely every chance and they should be pre-Christmas. There are 48 of them to sell. |

Yep, very intriguing Robbo.
Never liked Star Turn and he's legless early doors. American Pharoah was always a risk but wouldn't think anyone would've been looking for him to throw early comers. Capitalist ok but vendors selling those with ordinary female families would surely be be experiencing high blood pressure. Haven't given much thought to Maurice.

Capitalist will be a handy sire simply because of opportunity. He will only be a pale imitation of W.T.

How are you supposed to get all the way through this catalogue.
I beginning to think I most well just follow horses out of fillies I've picked in previous years. I mean Truly Great, Classique Legend, Quick Thinker, Sneaky Five, Handle the Truth, Fake Love, Tyzone and Victoria Quay are streets in front of many I've picked in recent years. Even though with so many sales on line to view I've followed more than the 25 I used to pick out of the Easter Sales. And as I follow the foals out of the mares It's getting hard to keep track of them all. But not being able to get to the sales anymore is depressing. I miss patting all those eager young noses and seeing the different personalities both in the stable and ring. You don't seem to pick that up so much on the TV or computer. I haven't been near a horse since mid 2019 and I think I'm having withdrawal syndromes. Working in the industry but away from the main participants is difficult. |

It's taken me over a month to plough through the catalogue - and that was only at a cursory level. If I were looking to select for actual purchase it would be absolute murder.
Looks like Book 3 will be gone next year with the small number of entries.

Hopefully that small number will find homes. How many buyers can there be by the end of the catalogue.

Well, those looking for potential value for money will go on the last day for the tail end of Book 2 (as you say, an exhausted market) and any outstanding types in Book 3. They could well give the earlier days a miss thinking those yearlings will go for more money as would-be buyers would be fresher and more funded.
Certainly if are seller with a yearling at Book 3 level, I think the March sale would offer more chances of coming ahead financially.

Well there you go: $975,000.
ps the dam's first foal by Sebring was sacked by Hayes and has recorded just one country placing at Ballina from his 6 lifetime starts.

![]() I did spot the tied in below the knees flaw but initially the terribly balanced hind feet ![]() ![]() Do these stud managers know even the basics of what a healthy foot should look like? The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything, it's too late to stop reading it.

I admit to overlooking the hind feet somewhat.
Shrunk, you'll notice that the off hind coronet is about at 4.50 o'clock and the near at around 2.30.

Gee guys I can only pick on pedigree and that 113 is out of a Bonaria a daughter of Decidity who I picked from the sales. Selling with the Widden draft. Surely they should know about hoof care ect. It you can't trust the big stables and studs to get it right we are in trouble.

now on a positive note
Results seem to have held up well. So far on par with last year ( thanks to IamI, WT, Seb , Snitz, Cap & MN amongt others) MNavn much preferred over RRev ( MN's do look like runners) Market off Astern & POD Also looks like market has woken up to Rubick & I'd be worried if I paid $50K for Deep F service in 2020 With sellers appearing to be ready to meet the market & the Oz buying bench being quite strong even without a lot of O/s competition I'd say MM staff & vendors will sleep well tonight, but let'see how the large book & long tail affects the overall outcome. Both Hellbent & Pariah have had the positive start one would expect from such professional operators as Arrowfield & Yarraman

I had a look for curious reasons Glencoe , when walking he appears to my wee eye that his length of reign levels out nicely due to a massive overstep fwiw.

Fairytale? Has to be, Magnier pays 1.9 for a first foal and an average pedigree? We know alcohol plays a huge part in the selling/buying process, never have I witnessed so many drunks in one place before 3pm. David Ellis the large Kiwi with the annoying wink, he pays K825 and K600 for a couple of Fastnet Rocks. The colts no, the fillies go ok, the colts are generally bloody useless, but David might not care.
I do know the NZ economy is so strong and business is booming, so maybe there are quite a few with tax problems and wish to minimise their tax.....if they run it's ok, if they don't...even better. Magnier is just a w#anker.

Bonjour you could be a tad hard on the pedigree. Yes its not the Redoute's family or the Black Caviar family etc etc. But the dam was a stakes winner or 8 races and many mares retire maidens. Her dam was a 1/2 sister to two G1 winners. The stallions used Snitzel (well four times top), O'Reilly (champion son of Last Tycoon), Pins (one of the most versitile sons of Snippets with a champion broodmare as his grandam and stakes winning dam with Kaoru Star as well), Centaine (Century, Better Boy, Vain, Todman you name it he had it and we sent him to NZ) etc. While the dam is inbred to Pakistan sire of Hunza the grandam of O'Reilly and also a champion broodmare with 5 stakes winners to her name.
Well Snitzel loves Snippets so Pins can't hurt. Redoute's and Last Tycoon have hit the mark plenty of times. So sireline Redoute's over dam's sire O'Reilly gets a tick. Just look at the Danehill blood with Centaine crosses - that gets a tick. And he did look the part of being light on his feet and moved well from what I could see to my eye (which to be very truthful is not up to alot on here). But no his pedigree had enough. Believe me many with much less in there pedigree have sold for more. |

Kind of disagree here Furious, with respect of course. We owned an O'Reilly mare, she had 14 foals, 12 won, they are special the O'Reilly's for sure, but, this dam won a listed and placed in a weak Brizzie Gr2....brave or stupid paying that money for a first foal, I'd back stupid, time will tell, IMO you're going too far back to Hunza, most pedigrees will allow you to find a 'diamond in the rough'......1.9 buys you a mansion in the right city, the chances of a great ROI with this one, not good........at least Magnier buys himself and no need for a bloodsucker, sorry, bloodstock agent.......#otherpeoplesmoney

I agree in that it could be not worth anything as a racehorse. That can happen to the very best of of the breed. But I will say again. I've seen worse pedigrees with no G1 class on the page bring over $1,000,000. So I won't say this one was in that boat. It was a sensible pedigree breed to hopefully bring out the best possible foal.
