yeah...I liked Ash Mallet, too.
and I also used to imitate him, strange as that may sound. I was a pretty handy off-spinner in my youth... |

oh no...I hadn't heard. Davo was the reason I learned to love cricket. My first hero. I am devastated. If Stacky (Keith Stackpole) is the next to go, I will be in total mourning. Today's cricket followers probably don't know how great Davo was. He and Benaud made those long days at the ground worth enduring. |

Cardin died in 2020. You can't claim points on him. But you got Chris Plummer right. |

a funny thing...
My first serious boyfriend looked just like Alan Davidson...and my eventual husband was a dead-ringer for Keith Stackpole.
Cricket has influenced my life in more ways than I care to reveal. |

Geez JJ. You are better than me. I cant even remember what my first serious BF looked like. As to my first husband, I would rather forget about him.

I am a bit stiff, excuse the pun, I did that list on December 9th 2020, Cardin died on December 29th 2020, if he had last another 3 days I would have got him correct. Just the same he was only worth 2 points as he was 98 yrs of age.

you got the feeling he didn't want to live, after having his leg amputated. "Morton and Moonface". Don Lane and Bert Newton. Only three people were allowed to call Don Lane by his actual name...Morton. Bert, Don's mother and me. The end of an era of Australian tv. |

Such a character, not something we’ll see again in this day and age. People are too scared to be “cancelled”

It is a sobering thought, as one in my retirement phase off my life, that the passing of those two cricketers and Bert Newton that we all finally will face that final curtain.Hopefully, sometime down the track.

I am glad I have had the past ive had.
Freedom to play, walk to school, no social media influencing etc etc Who needs covid scare, mobile phones, plastics, etc etc I suppose these younger gens will get through but I'm glad I've had the childhood, and subsequently adulthood, I did. Seems so much simpler. |

I think anyone who grew up in the 50's and 60's had a better time than today's kids. We ran rampant at Bronte gully and beach. My mother used to kick us out the door in the morning and we only came home at dark because we wanted to be fed. We invented games. We were healthy because we were out in the sunshine. We had friends. These days, even your closest neighbours don't want to know you. Everyone is reclusive. |

And talking about Bert, was introduced to him many years ago at a pub in Heidelberg Road: some years before his marriage to Patti.
Came across as a polite 30yo with few airs or graces. Word around then was that he may have been a homosexual (as gays were referred to then). However I was later invited to a Footy do at the Bentleigh Club, and he actually acknowledged our acquaintance with a half-smile and a nod though he clearly wouldn't have remembered my name to save himself. And he spent quite some time outside the venue with a prominent "weather girl" as they were then known, and they weren't discussing television. Quite consensual of course and good luck to them, however giving lie to any questions about his sexuality.

I used to like Graham Kennedy when I was like 12. Thought he was pretty funny but at the time I thought Benny Hill was hilarious. Don Lane - crashing bore - wtf - what was the attraction?

Re a possible cricket quadrella, wouldn't lose a whole lot of sleep should Shane Warne expire on the job.
In particular, in the current 20/20 World Cup he reckons Steve Smith shouldn't have been in the Oz X1 v the Poms. Despite scoring 60-odd with just one dismissal in the two preceding games. Everyone's entitled to an opinion, however his own these days appear more into chronic criticism and a determination to be "upfront" and controversial.
