I think he looks like a genuine lightweight live chance in The Doncaster.

No Winx's, Mystic Journey's to worry about & The Autumn Sun is also looking doubtful. I think he could hold his own in an average year.

He is a good horse.

Fan-favourite Widgee Turf has been retired with Patrick Payne saying the tough galloper had shown connections he was ready to stop racing.

Famously purchased for just $4000 as a weanling by Queensland owner Gordon McIntosh, the seven-year-old has raced 42 times for 11 wins and 14 placing, earning almost $1.269mil in prizemoney.

The Plumpton trainer said the son of Turrfontein was working as well as he had in years but that his raceday performances showed he was ready to retire.

"He's as sound as he's been and was working really well, but he just showed in his recent races that he's had enough and we've made the decision to retire him," Payne said.

"He's meant so much to everyone in the stable and of course his owners and deserves a happy retirement."
