El Moxie was here then went to Victoria Beliskner. Wordy was courted by a mainland stud but the Geard's wanted to leave him here for Tassie breeding. the offer I understand was huge but the put Tassie first. they have raced a couple on the mainland for 2 seconds at the valley. I reckon you may see them over again after the carnival. I expect they would have been a little disappointed with GG double dee yesterday. finished 5th I think in the 3 year old race. they still have good performers and up and comers so overall they should pick up some good races.

Needs Further Filly Goes Two for Two
Tara Madgwick - Monday, 28 November 2016
Encosta de Lago's reputation as a sire of sires looks like being enhanced by his handsome Tasmanian based son Needs Further, whose promising filly Il Regalo made it two wins in as many starts at Hobart on Sunday.

Needs Further

Needs Further

In winning on debut earlier this month, the John Blacker trained filly earned her breeder-owner Max Pearce a $10,000 bonus that was offered by Armidale Stud as an incentive to breeders to book their mares into their exciting young sire Needs Further.

She continued the good work in the open juvenile event over 900 metres, dashing away to win by two lengths as a hot favourite.

A Gooree Stud homebred, Needs Further won the Group III ATC Carbine Club Stakes and is a sibling to dual Group I winner Hallowed Crown, who stands at Darley in the Hunter Valley.

Il Regalo is the first winner for winning King of Kings (IRE) mare Your Call, who comes from a European family featuring dual Group I winner La Collina.

Your Call was one of 70 mares covered by Needs Further in his first season, the powerful bay standing at a fee of $3,300.

The winner showed huge improvement from her debut with 2 additional trials and the step up to 1100. Like a number of your mares Showdown I'm very happy our mare was served by him!

Second Winner for Needs Further
Tara Madgwick - Thursday, 22 December 2016
Armidale Stud's exciting young Encosta de Lago son Needs Further sired his second winner at Launceston on Wednesday with a dominant victory for Pateena Arena.

The Bill Ryan trained filly was fifth on debut behind Needs Further's first winner Il Regalo on November 9 when she raced greenly.

Sent out favourite for her second start in the 1100 metre maiden, she produced a strong display to win by two lengths.

A $22,000 purchase for her trainer from the Armidale Stud draft at the Tasmanian Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Pateena Arena is a half-sister to stakes-placed Happy and Hell and Dandy Gent.

She is the sixth winner from stakes-winning Ladoni (IRE) mare Gehenna.

With two winners from four starters, Needs Further has made a pleasing start to his stud career.

A Group III winning half-brother to dual Group I winner Hallowed Crown, who stands at Darley, Needs Further has 22 entries for the 2017 Tasmanian Magic Millions Yearling Sale on February 16. Click here to see them.

I think I am Invincible showed you don't have to have a G1 on your winning list to make a very good stallion.  I hope Needs Further keeps up the good work but you surely have to be pleased with his results so far.

yes spoke with Robyn and David last night. they are really happy with his start. the winner last night should get more ground given the family and I remember you saying you liked the breeding Furious.
I am pleased now that Spirit is in foal confirmed 30 days to Ned. I feel we made the right choice. I have the half sister x Ned coming along nicely here. fine but athletic. very happy.

Yes it was a pedigree that wasn't going to win a 900m scamper and should get to a mile with luck.

First Stakes-Winner for Needs Further
Tara Madgwick - Sunday, 5 February 2017
Armidale Stud's blue-blooded Encosta de Lago stallion Needs Further became the first Australian freshman sire to post a stakes-winner when his talented two year-old filly Pateena Arena took out the $100,000 Listed Elwick Stakes at Hobart in Tasmania on Sunday.

The Bill Ryan trained filly was fifth on debut behind Needs Further's first winner Il Regalo on November 9 when she raced greenly and then scored easily at Launceston on December 21.

Third at her most recent run behind Derasa in the $30,000 Alfa Bowl, Pateena Arena was able to turn the tables on that filly relegating her to second in the 1100 metre dash.

Pateena Arena as a yearling

She settled off the pace and came with a well-timed run for Luke Currie to snatch a valuable win over Derasa, a daughter of another first season sire in Squamosa.

A $22,000 purchase for her trainer from the Armidale Stud draft at the Tasmanian Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Pateena Arena is a half-sister to stakes-placed Happy and Hell and Dandy Gent.

She is the best of six winners from stakes-winning Ladoni (IRE) mare Gehenna.

With two winners from five starters, Needs Further has made a flying start to his stud career.

A Group III winning half-brother to dual Group I winner Hallowed Crown, who stands at Darley at a fee of $27,500, Needs Further comes from the family of champion sire Zabeel.

Needs Further has 22 entries for the 2017 Tasmanian Magic Millions Yearling Sale on February 16. Click here to see them.

Armidale have an ongoing ability to select stallions that suit a wide range of Australian mares & therefor deserve every success, in my very amateur opinion Clap Clap Clap

agree Gay, they have done so much for the breeding industry down here. lets hope they get the support they need with the two. no doubt numbers will be up for N.F. with the progeny performing well. after watching the replays of Alpine Eagle I would think he will get plenty of support too.

Needs Further Filly Wins Gold Sovereign
Tara Madgwick - Wednesday, 22 February 2017
Armidale Stud's blue-blooded Encosta de Lago stallion Needs Further has a very smart filly in the shape of Pateena Arena, who scored her second stakes win at Launceston on Wednesday when taking out the Listed $100,000 Gold Sovereign Stakes.

The Bill Ryan trained filly was a last start winner of the Listed Elwick stakes and made it a back to back stakes double when taking the 1200 metre sprint by more than a length as favourite from Your Song filly Peristrophe.

"I bought her to be a three year-old, so everything she's done so far is a bonus," said her trainer Bill Ryan.

"She's just improved and improved every day since we put a saddle on her.

"She'll go to the paddock now and hopefully we can come back and win the three year-old fillies stakes races next year."

Back-to-back Elwick Stakes with Mystic Journey extending her perfect start to three.

Another nicely bred filly, this one out of a daughter of Columbia who happens to be bred 3x4 to Klairessa on the female lines.

Can't do much more than win the 2yo stakes races in your own backyard.

It's perplexing that the market is giving Hallowed Crown such a hard time given how well this bloke is going, albeit in Tassie. Am I missing something?
