Cheers Whitto, all going well there and fertility rate is great. I believe his numbers are going well. 70 mares last year and from what I am told above that this year. that should give him a good chance to prove his worth....

AA is correct Geraldo that is the currently preferred way to stand TB horses for photos ...
TB's want you to be able to see all legs, Arabians are stood with front legs square and either split or square (level) behind.
Morgans are different again ...  google some breeds and check out show pics ... many different views.  Smile

FWIW, how a horse is stood up and the angle from which a pic it taken can signifcantly alter/affect how that horse looks ... slightly stretched, head high will 'assist' a poor topline, slightly sloping ground can 'assist' a horse that is rump high/low or suffers from ducks disease etc.

It goes without saying the pics of Needs Further are no frills honest shots. Thumbs Up

suck it up ... Life isn't run at w.f.a. :)

o Need to Go Further
Tara Madgwick - Wednesday, 2 September 2015
When Armidale Stud moved to secure this lightly raced, blue-blooded, Group III winning son of Encosta de Lago in 2013, nobody could have predicted what a coup it would be for the Tasmanian breeding industry.

The stars have aligned for Needs Furtherand what looked like a good investment by the Whishaw family, may well in fact be a great one.

In the time since his purchase, Encosta de Lago has gone from strength to strength as a sire of sires through the deeds of Northern Meteor and Manhattan Rain, while his half-brother Hallowed Crown established himself as one of the best three year-olds in the country.

Needs Further
Needs Further
This time last year, the Bart and James Cummings trained Gooree Stud homebred Hallowed Crown was starting his meteoric rise to the top of the tree with brilliant wins in the Group III ATC Run to the Rose and $1million Group I Golden Rose.

He returned in the autumn to win the Group I ATC Randwick Guineas and is now embarking on his first season at stud with Darley in the Hunter Valley at a fee of $33,000.

Even without Hallowed Crown in the picture, Needs Further was popular in his debut year at Armidale covering 70 mares at a fee of $3,300, but last spring that number rose significantly to 88 off the back of his famous sibling.

Needs Further and Hallowed Crown are from Gooree Stud’s Group III winning Golden Slipper place-getter Crowned Glory, a daughter of champion sire Danehill (USA).

Her next two dams are by Bletchingly and Nureyev, with third dam Lady Giselle, gaining international fame and fortune as the dam of champion sire Zabeel.

This is a premium mainland pedigree through and through, which explains the tremendous interest in Needs Further, not only from Tasmanian breeders, but also those from further afield.

Well credentialed sons of Encosta de Lago have been targeted by some of the most astute studs in the country with Coolmore launching Rubick (service fee $17,600) this year and Newhaven Park getting ready to sell the first yearlings by their young sire Delago Deluxe (service fee $11,000) in 2016.

Needs Further has the pedigree and race performance to be comparable with either, yet stands at a fraction of the fee.

His first stunning foals last spring delighted breeders (click here to see them), so it’s now full steam ahead for Needs Further, who has the potential to make a huge impact for Tasmania and beyond.

For more information on Needs Further contact David Whishaw on 0407 868269 or by email david@armidalestud.com.au

First Winner for Needs Further
Tara Madgwick - Thursday, 10 November 2016
Encosta de Lago's reputation as a sire of sires was enhanced when his handsome Tasmanian based son Needs Further landed his first winner with his first runner at Launceston on Wednesday evening.

Promising filly Il Regalo looked good in a recent seven length barrier trial win and took that form to race day when she scored by a length and a half over 800 metres.

Needs Further

Needs Further

In winning, the John Blacker trained filly earned for her breeder-owner Max Pearce a $10,000 bonus that was offered by Armidale Stud as an incentive to breeders to book their mares into their exciting young sire Needs Further.

A Gooree Stud homebred, Needs Further won the Group III ATC Carbine Club Stakes and is a sibling to dual Group I winner Hallowed Crown, who stands at Darley in the Hunter Valley.

Il Regalo is the first winner for winning King of Kings (IRE) mare Your Call, who comes from a European family featuring dual Group I winner La Collina.

Your Call was one of 70 mares covered by Needs Further in his first season, the powerful bay standing at a fee of $3,300.

Has Tasmania had 800m 2yo races in the past?  Or is it relatively a new thing?

I know i've seen a couple of them in New Zealand.

I'm sure Armidale never expected NF to throw 2yo winners let alone pre Xmas. Having seen him in the flesh he's a belting type so excited about what he may do as a sire

I'd imagine the book of mares he would've gotten would be soo strong in tassie, that he'd throw some 2yo's even if that's not his thing.

It could also be a sign his going to be a boom as a sire.

Question - Has a sire ever started in TAS, but moved to the mainland due to his success?  Has there been any interest in bringing Wordsmith over to VIC etc?  I'd assume even if there was, the Geard's would keep him anyway?  They are a bit weird, content to dominate TAS racing, but never send any horses to the mainland.
