That's very true, good point!

As was the 2016 Melb Cup runner up Heartbreak City.  Even the current favourite for the 2017 Melb Cup in Francis of Assisi is a hurdler!

I suppose even here in Aust/NZ some really good stayers have gone jumping.

Bit of a stretch to say Polarisation is a hurdler when he has now had 24 starts of which only 1 has been over the hurdles.

Confused

Keep him going- love watching him run and thought he nearly had it today! Considering what happened last start he obviously bounced back perfectly to put in the run he did today..
He's still consistent so ???? if it ain't broke don't fix it..

Wasn't there an Irishman who brought a ST Leger winner who jumped as well for a Melb. cup, we tend to shrink at that idea.

I tend to think it is because Jumps racing in Australia is amateurish and basically for also-rans.

We did have one that turned Aintree on its ear, they even changed the conditions, but then a horse like him doesn't come along too often CRISP!

Ahh dear old Crisp the Pharlap of Australian Jumps racing .... and yes the St Ledger winner has been mentioned a few times on here probably should have two Melbourne Cups to it's name Smile

Karasi was a pretty good horse, ran 4th in the Melbourne Cup, who went over the jumps.

At 12 years of age he won his third consecutive Nakayama Grand Jump.

That makes sense because I expected the market to be hard against him because of what happened a few weeks ago but it was always strong.

I was mentally committed to start backing him once he got to 20/1.

Great old horse.

Van Der Hum won the Cup in 1976, won the feature Waikato Hurdle in 1982, and was still winning over the big jumps as late as 1984, 8 years after his Flemington success.

Fantastic to see WSTB win another big race.

He’s my favourite horse currently racing. Just puts in every Spring and every Autumn, year after year.

The type of horse every owner who actually enjoys the sport of racing dreams of owning.

Bring on Melb Cup run number 4!!

That depends on whether and when you backed him ! LOL

I can't recall getting anything out of him but I do recall losing a fair bit in a Sydney Cup won by a stablemate iirc.  Still have to appreciate his efforts as a racehorse though.

I’ve won & lost on him over the years too and wasn’t on him today as I avoid races with fields of less that 8.

But as 3BM said, put punting aside and just appreciate a very honest, old school NZ stayer.

Well done WSTB

Good to see the old boy win again...the Waller stable outside the one superstar is a bit light on for big race winners of late.

Wish the weather was as predictable Mowie. You presumably missed the previous race and just looked at the 9 on his form.

Lucky Xmas isn't far away. Expect you need a new Waller doll to stick your needles in by now.

If a horse went as well in group sprints as this bloke goes in distance races it would be a folk hero

Was just announced...no penalty Melbourne Cup penalty for winning the Moonee Valley Cup, will carry 54kg in the Melbourne Cup.
Australian racing is only good up to 1400m in terms of world standards when it comes to depth/quality in numbers

All he needs is the Lee Freedman watering of the track and he is a top five hope.

One of the better 3200m Aus/NZ has had in the recent years.
Remember, it might take intelligence to be smart , but it takes experience to be wise

I'm sure the owners would have been happy to hear Waller say yesterday that it was nice to have horses like Who Shot Thebarman as well as "good horses like Winx". Most trainers would think that a horse who has won $3 million is entitled to be called a good horse (or probably a damn side better).

Hopefully he'll recover in time to run in one of the stakes races at Sandown on 18 November, however it's unlikely if he's picked up a virus.

Otherwise it's out for a spell and his 4th or 5th crack at the Sydney Cup.

Waller was quoted as saying Winx did not need to run in the Apollo to be right for the Chipping Norton, Lets hope he realises Who Shot Thebarman does not need to have a race before he runs over 2000m.
