Michelle Guthrie gets the sack as MD half way through her five year term.

A welcome initiative by the board I think.  She just didn't seem to understand public broadcasting or journalism as well as she needed to and lost the confidence of the organization.

One criticism of Guthrie is that she was too focused on digital. As someone who uses SBS On Demand a lot- it's great- and ABC Iview rarely- it's rubbish- 3rd world by comparison- I hard that hard to believe.

The criticism of her from the board according to a spokesman today was that she gutted the ABC and allowed herself to be walked over by govt. Looking at a lot of ABC people on twitter, there isn't much love for her.

She was sacked by the true owners of the ABC - the staff - and they haven't been happier since Malcolm stabbed Tony!

Who can blame them for their celebrations ... they really do miss Malcolm!Cry

The  range is tiny compared to SBS. Even when a show is there they don't have all the episodes available.

that is true episodes have a limited time before they are removed.
doesn't worry me as I watch missing episodes online even though it is much more difficult to find sites since the laws governing copyright  were tightened a couple of years ago.

Maybe they could do with some of the massive funding cuts returned to them?

All of those sites, Solar Movies, Putlockers 123 etc are back online next day with a new address. Just Google their name and you get the latest address on top.

Doesn't SBS as opposed to ABC have additional revenues from advertising and subscription?

World Movies was moved to SBS Subscription Services(a subsidiary of SBS) last year and SBS wanted to have a paid service, but maybe they weren't allowed to do it. There were also discussions at the same time about expanding their commercial revenues.

Interesting that Emma Albirici non sacking(for constantly embarrassing the govt by pointing out their lies) could be the reason for Guthrie being sacked.

Senate estimates tomorrow may shed some light on that and other lies told to the Senate.

I remember Keating constantly bagging the ABC. They must have been right-wing back in those days.

According to Hill, Keating kept pointing to the ceiling and saying, “If you think I’m dirty on the ABC you ought to hear Old Silver”… one version of the private conversation that followed was that Keating said to Hill:  ‘I’ll give you the tip.  We’ve had enough of you c***s.  We f****d Fairfax. Now it’s your turn…’ (There’s a dispute about this exchange.  Mr Keating denied he said it.  Quentin Dempster’s source insists he did.) Hill, said Dempster, not normally lost for words was speechless for a time.  Hill pressed ahead with his public campaign against funding cuts planned for the ABC, and was successful – a tactic his successor Brian Johns chose not to adopt when the ABC under him essentially rolled over and accepted the $66 million cut from the Howard Government in 1996 without a squeak.

Emma Albirici's attempts to comment on Economics was the most embarrassing thing I had seen - until CNNPT started defending the Kavanaugh accusers!Pinch

For that reason alone, she should have been sacked - she knew less about Economics and Business than most of the Trump Haters on here, and she was the ABC's resident "expert"!Embarrassed

Forget the "conscious bias", 90% of the dopes who work in that sheltered workshop should volunteer to go on the basis of incompetence alone.

o the best option to run the public broadcaster, is a magazine founder who hits 78 this year, and has not had any TV administration experience, to my knowledge.

Running a magazine is hugely different than running a radio and television organisation.

Is the government, because that is who hired her, not the independent panel, saying that there are no 40 or 50 year olds, in Australia, that can handle this job?
Remember, it might take intelligence to be smart , but it takes experience to be wise

Just the tories on their continual push to destroy the ABC, they hate it because they can't control it.
