Loved it - had a bit of everything - they even left it open for another series. Maybe they could shed some light on Crooked Hillary and her Russian connections ... Fun Fact - the main characters have been in a real life relationship since they met in season one!

Missus found a comedy we've been binging on - "Schitts Creek" - reunites Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara who formerly starred as Gerry and Cookie Fleck - the terrior fanatics from "Best In Show" - took a couple of episodes, brilliant cast and Funny AF

ok people who can YOU identify with.
A beautiful show. Who watched? "Come on Eric. " Old People's Home For 4 Year Olds is raw and real but necessary TVEveryone, look! Old people!" So says one of the excited four-year-olds in the opening scenes of this new social experiment/observational documentary by the ABC. Yes, it's old people. And they're mostly sad, lonely and isolated from their friends and families. And that is the real eye opener in this first episode of Old People's Home for 4 Year Olds, how bleak the outlook is for many older Australians in aged care. It's not just the statistics that are reeled off – 40 per cent receive no visitors, while 50 per cent report depressive symptoms – that are shocking, it's the raw honesty many of them give in their answers to camera, about families being "too busy" to visit, of lost confidence and of homes and pets taken away. It’s those details that give this "experiment" real oomph – because if you don't tear up at listening to 81-year-old Maureen describe in a rather resigned fashion how her granddaughter doesn't visit or if your heart doesn't crack a bit at crotchety Eric, 84, say how "it was decided" that he could no longer live in his house, you should probably have a look at the black hole where your heart should be.That's not to say this delightful series is a complete downer – the infectious enthusiasm and empathy of the assorted four-year-olds makes sure of that – it's just a warning that if you have a person you love in aged care, prepare for any deeply buried bubbles of guilt to rise to the surface. So how do we improve the lives of residents in aged care and retirement homes? Well, that's the point of this documentary, which is billed as an Australian-first experiment, which aims to improve the mood and mobility of the 11 Sydney retirement home residents by getting them to interact with preschoolers. The point is to get the older folk to re-engage with the world – to reignite their sense of play and fun, from pretending to sip tea from an empty cup (one of the best scenes in the opening episode – "Look at this Brian. There's nothing in there!") to moving their bodies via the simple act of taking a walk in the garden. And it works (well, in this first episode it does, there are hints of conflict to come), as eyes light up and barriers come down. Watching Eric being nudged along by an insistent young Aidan as they go to collect leaves from the gardens is heart-warming, as is the lunch where Eric is almost bullied into handing over his chips to his two young dining companions. The producers of Old People's Home for Four Year Olds know what they are doing – every emotional button is pushed and the music is designed to signal how we should feel at the sight of a very reserved former soldier walking off with a panda on his head (happy) or the vision of an 80-year-old sitting alone on their bed (sad). Yes, it’s a bit manipulative, but if it makes people think twice about the kind of life they are sending their parents and grandparents off to – and I know everyone has different circumstances and life isn’t so perfect that we can all live as one happy family – that's a good thing. Old People's Home for Four Year Olds is on ABC, Tuesday, 8.30pm.https://www.smh.com.au/entertainment/tv-and-radio/old-people-s-home-for-four-year-olds-is-raw-and-real-but-necessary-tv-20190819-p52ii6.html |

Science fiction. Almost as funny as Schitts Creek. I like Leo, but only now fully appreciate the entitled lifestyle he leads, and what a convincing actor he actually is!

Ashes cricket and Solheim Cup Golf.
There is no better sport to play or watch than match play golf, and these women are incredible. Golf is the only women's sport worth watching. They concede the fact that they can't compete with men - they play off the Ladies' tees.

Started watching Knives Out, quite promising, certainly better than the vastly overrated The Irishman.
Trouble is it is interrupted regularly by gambling ads. Ok , it is a pirated copy, but still

I liked the lesbian love/lust story Portrait of a Woman on Fire a lot. Far superior to The Irishman. The Korean movie Burning was my other favourite of the movies I saw last year.

Watched that too - agree E&E very well done! The missus has been binging on "Anne with an E" on Netflix ... got me in too! Canadian production, based on the classic Anne of Green Gables - didn't interest me, but then once we started ... virtual unknown cast, really interesting late 19th century plots, some strong young female characters, and the scripted dialogue of the time got me - recommend as a surprise hit!

Once Upon a time in Hollywood.
Hadn't read anything about it, a bit slow in spots, but a great finale makes it worthwhile. Brad Pitt is more than a pretty face too.

Watched all 5 episodes of The Devil Next Door on Netflix while on a plane last week. Very interesting recount of the extradition and trial of an alleged Nazi war criminal. Prompted an extensive Wikipedia reading. Recommend.

Uncut Gems - Netflix.
Wow ... talk about intense, I almost hated this movie in parts ... it's like a train wreck, you just can't look away!!! Well worth it, lots of plot twists ... you will never look at Adam Sandler in the same way ... had me believing he might actually be a degenerate gambler. Well picked Whale! |
