Does anyone know much about these guys? A pal of mine from UK was telling me they buy the big money yearlings in Europe for the last five or so years and saying to me they must be massive in Australia? I'd never heard of them but did a google search and they have a farm in Moss Vale with a $27million dollar stable complex! It also seems they have horses with Joe Pride, Peter Moody and Guy Walter?

Waratah Thoroughbreds had a horse called SIR JOHN HAWKWOOD trial today over 1550m at Cranbourne.

He won the trial with Craig Williams aboard.   He had won 2 of his 3 previous starts over 2100m & 2400 at Chester & York respectively.  His last start in England was 7th in the Hardwicke Stks behind the ill-fated Thomas Chippendale & the highly touted Dandino.

He's a nicely bred gelding by Sir Percy (an Epsom Derby winner)..........maybe a sleeper for the Cups??

For a while he had mostly duds, but lately his horses have been popping up as winners a fair bit.

Common themes are their mostly from overseas brought out here unraced, the trainers/owner are very patient with them bringing them along slowly, and mostly out of stallions i have not heard of or rarely.

Big spread of trainers too, Vandyke has at least 2 or 3 that are multiple winners, and i've seen moody and smerdon with at least one each.

His not afraid to spend the coin, i've seen horses by galileo, dynaformer, dansili.

Mostly milers and above.

Fwiw, he's referring to Lot 945 Sanctuary, Sandown maiden winner over 1400m, trained by Weir.

Apparently Telopea has been ruled out of the spring due to a cut that needed stitching up. It is surely more than a simple cut that needed stitching to rule her out of a whole spring............

She probably has copious amounts of class and might well win easily but gee it pisses me off a filly with this pedigree would be kicked off over 1000m.

If she's to become a quality stayer, this'll be the  equivalent of a trial for her, even tho' she's likely barely turned 3yo (NH foal) vs older horses.

I tend to agree BUT Weir is not afraid to start horses first up over 1600m so she must be showing some dash

Waratah are no mugs & they would tell Weiry if things were different

I can never tell which horse is which at Weiry's jumpouts but I think this is the filly that has been smashing them into the ground over the sprint trip. Can never remember names so could be completely wrong

This is where I think our trainers get it wrong.

If a Japanese or European trainer had a horse with this pedigree showing that sort of speed they would not automatically start it off over the minimum trip.

They would harness that speed and have it using that speed at a mile plus.

I tend to take no notice of a Weir favourite on the drift, they still tend to win.

Very impressed with the filly, will only get better

I had the impression that a drifting Weir runner was not a good sign. Like Smeardon for instance.
