Anything to get out of cattle class, away from screaming kids , and snoring  , and smelly feet,  and people who recline their seats in your face, and kids kicking the back of your seat, and seats in front that you cant get your feet under .

There are a variety of ways to rack up frequent flyer points and happy to get into them if this thread takes off. For most people though the quickest and easiest will be churning credit cards for sign on bonuses. Forget ever getting anything decent out of your normal spend on cards, unless you're putting massive amounts of business spend through it you're unlikely to get much of anything. But sign on bonuses are a different story. You could easily earn enough points for one return flight in international business class for you and +1 each year with a couple of cards each.

My process is pretty simple for these:
-Identify a good offer
-Sign up
-Meet the minimum spend requirment
-Wait for bonus points to hit your account
-Cancel card
-Rinse and repeat

There is no need to spend more than you usually would because spend requirements (if any) will generally be able to be covered by your regular day to day spend.

The AMEX offer I posted yesterday is good if you want to fly Qantas or one of their partners - Emirates, Cathay, British Airways, American, JAL and a few others. I have another very similar AMEX offer which allows you to credit the points to a number or other airline programs giving additional flexibility. I'll post that tonight or tomorrow.

Ok heres another great current credit card offer from AMEX. 80,000 AMEX Membership Reward points as a signup bonus. These points are in the Gateway Rewards program and transfer to a range of different airline loyalty programs mostly at the rate of 1pt + 0.75 airline points. So effectively you are getting 60,000 airline points for whatever program you want to transfer to. Youll find that a lot of these programs are much more competitive than what Qantas offer so youll definitely be able to get some value here. Additionally I know of a hack that will enable you to credit these points to a more lucrative AMEX rewards scheme and effectively transfer the points to airline programs at much better rate gaining you an additional 33% points.

http://amex.com.au/refer/jameshFLW0

Details:
AMEX Explorer Card
-80,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points signup bonus after you spend $1,500 in the first 2 months. So very easy to obtain by using it for your groceries and petrol each week.
-Earns 2pts per dollar for all spend other than with ATO etc
-Includes a $400 travel credit each year which more than offsets the annual fee.
-Various different travel insurances included when you book with the card
-0% balance transfer for 12 months
-Annual fee $395

Again, annual fee is on the high side but the $400 travel credit more than offsets it so if you are doing any travel the card is basically free. Travel credit can be used for flights or hotels so quite flexible. And as mentioned with the other card you can also cancel immediately after you get the bonus points (make sure to transfer them to your airline first) and request a refund which will be granted.

As with the other card they have the refer a friend program which will help you get additional points. I opened this card a few weeks ago and have had a couple of referrals so far and am getting close to my goal which is one way from New York to Sydney flying Singapore Airlines (the loooooooooooong way round!) next year in their Suites Class on the A380. Heres a review that was published in News.com.au a couple of years ago about these seats:

http://www.news.com.au/travel/travel-ideas/best-of-travel/what-its-like-to-fly-on-the-20000-singapore-airlines-suite-class/news-story/c3610ab61d80bbc53e7f524a212b47b6

As Ive said, this type of travel is quite easily obtainable with some effort so if thats the kind of thing youre looking for then Id definitely encourage you to get the ball rolling by signing up to this card (or the Qantas one if you prefer).

Happy to answer any questions about this one and will add a few more things in due course.

I dont believe I am computer clever enough to manage that by myself, E & E.  However, I will look in to it for sure.  I/we do have Qantas FF cards and they email us about having their credit card, so I will read up on that.
You must have a mind like a steel trap Thumbs Up
I will read your posts and try and get my head around it, and if I think of anything, I will ask.
Thank You.

I travelled through Monkey Mia 25 plus years ago. It was a great place very raw and hadn't been commercialised. The dolphins would come on in and you could wade in and pat them.  I'd love to here what you've got to say about it now Tiger

http://amex.com.au/refer/jameshAbX0

Details:
Qantas AMEX Ultimate Card
-80,000 Qantas points signup bonus after you spend $1,500 in the first 3 months. So very easy to obtain by using it for your groceries and petrol each week.
-Earns up to 3 pts per dollar spent depending on the type of merchant
-Includes a free return domestic flight each year. This will be to Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane unless you live in Perth in which case you can get a flight to the east coast.
-2 complimentary visits to the AMEX Lounge at Sydney international airport.
-Various different travel insurances included when you book with the card
-0% balance transfer for 12 months
-Annual fee $450

I opened this card back in November and it’s a very good card for points earn as well as obviously the great signup bonus. Let’s address the annual fee – yes it is high. Do you have to pay it? Not really. There are a couple of ways this fee can be offset. Obviously the first one is the free domestic flight that is included with the card. Depending where you fly to you’re looking at at least $300 of value there so most of the fee is covered right there. The other way to offset it (and what I will be doing) is to wait until you receive the sign on bonus and cancel the card. When you call AMEX to do this request a refund of the annual fee. They will give you either a full or pro-rata refund depending on how long you have held the card.

Other benefits of this card are the various promotions AMEX run. They are always offering what they call statement credits for spend at specific merchants. For example before Xmas I had one for spend $200 at Freedom and receive $80 back. I needed to get some stuff from there anyway so it was perfect. Currently I have various offers for cash back for spend at Woolworths, Dan Murphy & Microsoft. There is also a way to significantly increase your cash back with these offers and I will probably cover that in another post if people are interested.

So if people are interested in this card DO NOT sign up through the AMEX website. The offer through that channel is only for 50,000 qantas points. However if you use the link below you will get 80,000 instead. This is part of another promotions AMEX run – refer a friend. Using my link below you will receive 80,000 points and as the referrer I will receive 20,000 points as well so it is really a win win situation. Once you have your card you will be able to generate your own link and send to people as well and hopefully earn additional points.

Link is below:

http://amex.com.au/refer/jameshAbX0

Heads up for anyone interested in this (unlikely) that I have now cancelled this card and received a full refund of the $450 annual fee. I received 110k pts as a sign on bonus on a previous offer in December plus another 140k bonus pts for referring people to the card. All in all just over 250k pts earned in 2 months for a cost of $0. Enough for the next trip to Europe in business class return.

Do not use the link I posted in the post above as it will no longer work. If you're interested use my friend's link instead:

Monkey Mia is an amazing place, the heat is insane, it was 46 degrees at 9am when visiting the Dolphins, they feed the Dolphins 3 times a day all before midday, it's very expensive to stay at Monkey Mia caravan/cabins so I stayed at Denham for 2 nights and that place is just as nice, only problem with all these coastal towns is once 4/430pm hits everything shuts and turn into ghost towns

I also suggest anyone who is visiting Monkey Mia you should stop in to Kalbarri on the way, such a great place with coastal cliffs and 3 giant gorges in the national park.

The missus has us booked on a cruise later in the year, departing Freo. to Singapore.

We will have the full day Saturday and half Sunday, staying in Perth with a car.

Never been to WA, anyone have some tips for things not to miss in that time frame ... other than the races, though that would do me just fine!Wink

Maybe not safe in Spain though

MADRID -- Police in Barcelona fired gunshots Tuesday to stop a Swedish man who stole a butane gas truck and drove it at high speed against traffic on a city highway, ramming several cars along the way, a police spokeswoman said. The man was arrested and is being questioned.

We did this as an alterative to the concept of a holiday "escape".

Sold up in Sydney.  Left job that paid really well.

Bought amazing property with amazing views.

Have no debts.

We live 25 minutes drive to Nambucca.  Beautiful clean beaches.  This time of year, I get my beach almost to myself.

There are some beautiful rain forests in the area.  The water is clean.

We grow most of our vegetables.  Cannot bring myself to slaughter our chickens or cattle for food though.

Our setting is wonderful.  If we offered B&B, I have no doubt that we would have lots of bookings.  But that is not going to happen.  I am not a hospitality type.   Smile

We really do not see the need to go "on holidays".

Love Evans and Tate whites, so Margaret River appeals, Monkey Mia is an obvious icon, and I would enjoy the dolphins I'm sure - still leaning to a day at the races, but I know I will be out voted on that one! ... LA $843 return on Air NZ.

This site tracks great deals as they come up. Worth bookmarking. There's several great fares for US travel currently.

Some really cheap flights everywhere at the moment. London flights only $1100 return. South America was about the same price until yesterday, with LATAM (Lan Chile)
