I think she's still an apprentice but is in a very bad way due to an horrific head on track smash this morning:

Brooke Somers A riderless horse hit her near the post in a track gallop this morning. She has a broken neck, back, pelvis and multiple ribs. There is strong evidence of spinal damage, with her not able to move her legs, there is tingling in her feet. She was airlifted to royal north shore to have emergency surgery. We won't know more till after she wakes around 9pm tonight. Her horse was euthanised as well. She never saw it coming.

Serious concerns following head-on collision

Trackwork rider Kate Nipperess is in a “serious” condition in Royal North Shore Hospital in St Leonards, New South Wales, following a shocking collision at Warwick Farm this morning.

Nipperess, 29, who works for KRD Racing & Thoroughbreds, was doing some pacework on the Pro-Ride all-weather surface on one of Marc Conners’ horses when a riderless horse collided with her head-on.

Racing New South Wales reported Nipperess has suspected fractures to her ribs, pelvis, back and a tingling sensation in her feet.

Kirk Devers, managing director for KRD Racing, told G1X.com.au: “Kate will undergo a procedure today.

“She’s conscious and in good spirits, but it’s serious. We’re all shellshocked.”

Nipperess’ partner Craig Ritchie, a trainer for KDR Racing, and her family are by her bedside

I sincerely hope that over time she can return to some sort of normal life.

What a horrific accident.

Kate Nipperess
Racehorse Educator/Track Rider/Stable Support

Kate has been riding horses since the age of four. She underwent years of dressage instruction under some of Sydney's leading riders, before becoming involved in Pony Club and later successfully competing extensively in many equestrian disciplines.

After completing her High School Certificate at The Hills Grammar School, Kate studied Horse Industry Management and Equine Veterinary Nursing at Richmond Agricultural College.  Kate then spent a year working at an elite stud farm, specialising in yearling education.

In her early twenty's, Kate decided to pursue a career in the Thoroughbred Racing Industry and began working for respected Warwick Farm trainer Mr. Matthew Smith, before joining the stables of the late Guy Walter; where she was the strapper, rider and stable hand for multiple Group 1 winning Champions "Streama" and "Appearance".

It was at this point in time Kate became an apprentice jockey, indentured to Mr.Walter, spending time on loan to one of the leading NSW Country trainers in Mr. Greg Bennett at his Scone stables, during which time she rode her first winner at Armidale. Kate worked as a professional jockey, prior to focusing on racehorse training and development.

On returning to Sydney, Kate wanted to further her understanding of the education process of young racehorses and spent twelve months working for the highly respected Heritage Park, focusing on "breaking in" and "pre-training" for Australia's leading metropolitan trainers at their property in the Southern Highlands.

Kate joined the KRD Racing Team in early 2015 and has been invaluable in her support to Craig and the team in the development and education of the young racehorses coming through our ranks. Complimenting Kate's knowledge of the animals and her vast experience and understanding of what is required of the horse on race day, is her ability to judge their capabilities and potential. Kate plays a critical part in our process and conducts daily track work not only to educate but also to "Tune" the horses for racing and; ensures that each horse is afforded the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Last I saw AA was that the surgeons were happy with the operation, there was now a clear space round the spinal cord and although she still had no movement in her legs she was feeling pressure and they were still hopeful that movement would come.

Some much needed positive news from Chris Barclay:

Mana on track to boost Kate Nipperess

Mana can hearten his injured track rider Kate Nipperess by winning at Canterbury, a year after she suffered serious injuries in a fall at Warwick Farm.

Kate Nipperess is well advanced on the road to recovery since suffering multiple injuries in a track work accident a year ago, but a win by one of her favourites at Canterbury would still provide a timely boost.

Nipperess started riding Mana last year, and he was one of the first horses she asked about as she recovered from the surgery required after her mount collided with a riderless horse at Warwick Farm on July 28.

"She used to ride Mana in all his work. He's not difficult but he can pull a bit and she gets him working better than most," trainer Craig Ritchie said.

Nipperess is also Ritchie's partner and he was pleased to offer a positive update as the anniversary of the incident loomed.

"Her recovery is going super. She goes to rehab fives days a week. She continues to improve," he said. Nipperess suffered spinal injuries plus several broken ribs and a fractured sternum when she was thrown from her horse. After eight months of rehabilitation, she was able to walk out of hospital in April.

Ritchie said Nipperess aimed to return to a race meeting during the spring on a day she can recognise the medical professionals who assisted her recovery.

"Sometime during the spring she's really keen to take all the people who have been involved in her rehab to the races one day. We're going to get a table and do that as a way of saying thank you," Ritchie said.

Mana is the TAB's $4.80 favourite to win Wednesday's Schweppes Handicap after a second at Rosehill on July 15.
