Began the trend of NZ trainers going to Mornington. Best horse was King Phoenix, but had great success with the jumpers. Victorian Premier Sir Henry Bolte won the Grand National Steeple with Ramlegh trained by Theo Howe.

Howe was a very popular and successful trainer on both sides of the ditch. 
 
And along with another one of his Kiwi mates down at Mornington continued/popularised the famous Kiwi "non-answer" regarding a horse's chances.  Wink
 
RIP Theo.

funny,I was thinking of him last week,about when he would have died.I had a dream as a kid of a black horse in his black,pale blue and white colors winning the A J C derby with an orange cap.He did a good job with a horse
