If they move it because of a Grand Final draw then they are conceding to the AFL for the future expansion of the AFL. Bad moveThumbs Down I was going to Flem on Saturday but will be doing other things on Sunday and will miss the meeting if they change itUnhappy

A decision likes this makes the AJC seem competent. This meeting should remain on Saturday and coincide with the Epsom, thus maximising betting on both meetings. Stupid move.

But what about as has been mention everyone from interstate booked to go - there's more than just a few locals that go to the racing when its a big day.  And moving to Sunday with no other big meetings would mean a loss in betting as many who would just bet because they are already betting on Epsom day wont be there (same for interstate punters who are at their normal race meeting).  Many would have otherplans for the last 2 days of the weekend.
And you are either a horse racing fan or a footy fan - if racing is bigger for you your are not going to skip Turnbull day due to the AFL and vice versa.

It would make more sense to run the race program earlier than change days

They did that at Wangaratta races today 1st race at 11.00am last race at 2.10pm.
Why don't the AFL have a twighlight or night Grand Final as a novelty?  or better still why don't they just play extra time on the day to decide a winner?

Just play the footy at Flemington in between races.

Can cope with crowd ...and  win/win for everyone....

So what your saying is thousands of people are to be inconvenienced because no-one at he AFL has the brains to have thought of extra time? And then the VRC are to admit they have an inferior product? Surely bringing in some extra giant screens at Flemington would be the sensible thing to do?

I'm not a big AFL fan, and so i was stunned to find out there was no extra time in the grand final today. Ridiculous.

Imagine how much extra cash the AFL will make from a replay. Hence no extra time.

Hope they don't move it, might be for best. The real racegoers will still go and there won't be as many half-tanked zombies clogging up the works to deal with.

They're only going to get 20-30000 at Flemington anyway. Large majority of those would still go. Who wants to watch an anti-climax?
