Caulfield Cup

1. Hartnell - 80. Has been going well in handicaps the last 12 months. To me he looks like the 2400m will suit now, top four hope.
2. Mirage Dancer - 87. Very intriguing runner. Comes from the Sir Micheal Stoute stable in England and he maps well here. His 2400m form is nearly faultless, his jockey ides the longer distances well and is drawn nicely in 9 (with scratchings). He will be in the finish and for me is a place special.
3. Mer De Glace - 80. His form is group 3 level in Japan and we have seen that that form is not good enough here. I do respect the Japanese when they travel so I will have him in all the exotics, but he can run without me backing him to win.
4. Mustajeer - 80. His form is okay, but I am just worried about the quality he has been beating. The form from the Ebor has not stood up since, and I think he will be better suited at Flemington. Can run on, but not a top four for me.
5. Rostropovich - 81. He looks to me to have been set for the cups. Has had a typical old style WFA campaign, into the handicaps, and to me he looks well placed at the 2400m. One negative for me is that he has not seen Caulfield but if can secure a soft run from the gate, and find something to follow into the straight, it would not surprise if he won.
6. Finche - 89. The only slight negative for me is the barrier, and he has never run at Cauflield which for him being a big striding horse could be a problem, but he is good and I am expecting him to look the winner at some stage in the straight.
7. Gold Mount - 82. This the international who is slipping uder the radar. Won the lead up to the Ebor beating a good field. Looks well weighted, has drawn well to sit forward and he has a jockey on who can ride long distance races well. No surprise to see hi salute here. Good overs!
8. Red Verdon - 81. At his best he can win this, but for me is to inconsistent. Will put him in the lower parts of the exotics, but for me he will not win.
9.Angel Of Truth - 76. I like this horse, but his form this prep is nowhere near what is required to even place here. He has been behind fitness wise, but he can improve if he is near fit.
10. Big Duke - 74. Ran well in the Metrop, but this is a different kettle of fish. Should be running at Randwick.
11. Constantinople - 82. One of those northern hemisphere 3yo's. Has similar formlines to Cross Counter last year, so he has to be respected on that alone. Expecting him be one of the big firmers in betting on race day.
12. Mr.Quickie - 80. Should get every chance from the gate. I am just not sure that he has made more improvement than Vow And Declare from their 3yo season.
13. Crown Prosecutor. Scratched
14. Vow And Declare - 80. Loved his fresh run. Has not run here, but has drawn to do no work early. If he can setlle two pairs closer he can go close.
15. Brimham Rocks - 84. Love his Melbourne spring form. Split Yucatan and Prince of Arran in a fast run Herbert Power last year, won the Naturalism well and just had bit too much to do in the Metrop from where he was in the run. Will need luck from the draw but o form he can win.
16. The Chosen One - 80. Good strong win in the Herbert Power. Looks like 2400m is his distance, well weighted and if he can overcome the barrier, he can run top four.
17.Qafila - 74. Thought she was on her way off her fresh run, but her last three runs have been shocking. Would be a bigger upset than Boom Time if she was to win.
18. Wolfe - 76. Won the Coongy to get in, but he only just fell in. Has drawn well, but could not back him with your money.
19. Sound - 69. Gets the run, but does not deserve it. Is only making up the numbers.
20. Neufbosc - 69. If he gets a run he has no chance.
21. True Self - 76.Form is good enough to run well, but will not get the run.
22. Prince Of Arran - 84. As has ben stated many times, he should be in the field ahead of some that have made it in front of him. He is a genuine group 1 stayer here in Australia, and would be a chance in this field.

1. No.6 Finche - 89.
2. No.2 Mirage Dancer - 87
3. No.15 Brimham Rocks - 84
4. No.7 Gold Mount - 82
5. No.11 Constantinople - 82
6. No.5 Rostropovich - 81.
Add ins for any scratchings are No.8 & No.16.
Recommended Bet: $30 win No.6 Finche
$10 each way No.2 Mirage Dancer
Precedent: No.5 Rostropovich (this has changed due to Finche beginning his cups campiagn in Sydney, and this horse having his prep here in Melbourne).

Good luck and lots of success to everyone!

Friday

Moonee Valley

Manikato Stakes

1. No.9 Bivouac - 85. His rating falls away, due to his first run at MV, and his first run at open WFA, but I can not see any rason that would worry him. It is more a borderline group 3, than a genuine group 1, so he should win this.
2. No.3 Fatinaah - 83. He is in career best form. Loves the Valley, his distance record is okay, but at a lower level, so he will need everything to fall into place, but he can win!
3. No.6 Trope - 80. Has form around Deprive who won the Sydney Stakes, and Arcadia Queen who was not bad in the Everest. 1200m should suit nicely and he can be there when the whips are cracking.
4. No.8 Meryl - 79. I have liked her two runs at the Valley this time in. Pulled up lame last start so forget that run, and she has drawn to get a lovely run or even lead. Right in this at stupid odds! She is the best $67.00 chance so far this year.
5. No.10 Anaheed - 78. Good win in the Blue Sapphire, and with 51 kilos she can be competitive, but not a winning hope for me.
6. No.11 Loving Gabby - 76. Good fresh win, and just dropped her rating, last time out. Maps nicely here, but she needs to step up from her last start.
Add ins for any scratchings are No.2 & No.5
Recommended Bet: $10 win + $20 place No.8 Meryl
                 $20 Place No.3 Fatinaah
Precedent: No.5 Vital Silver

Empire Rose Stakes (good field with only Myistic Journey and Arcadia Queen missing from the race).

1. No.1 Invincebella - 86. Has just needed racing in ehr two starts this prep. The 1600m is still a risk, but her record is good at the distance. she is well in at the set weights and she looks to be mapping nicely for this. Good overs.
2. No.2 Melody Belle - 85. I do not care where you race you can not win 9 group 1's without being talented. The form behind her is okay, and she she has Te Akau Shark form this prep. Not sure I would take $3.50 but she is a winning hope.
3. No.3 Aristia - 82. She is a track specialist. She runs well in races she is aimed at and the only trouble I can see for her is the barrier, with her racing pattern. Still a winning chance.
4. No.6 Spanish reef - 80. Now she has returned to form, she loves the track, she is a good miler and she can sit forward in a race which looks to lack some speed on paper. Should be half the early price she is, so she is good value.
5. No.10 Nettoyer - 80. Nothing wrong with her form. Good run at Newcastle, just got too far back, but came late in the Epsom and she won well last start defeating last weeks winner Amangiri. Again I am not sure why she is $17.00, but we will take a piece of that.
6. No.15 Fidelia - 78. Form has been solid with not much luck recently. Loves the track, 1600m is ideal and she should get every hope from that gate. She is one who will need the speed to be good, but she can finish off strongly.
Add ins for any scratchings are No.13 & No.4
Recommended Bet: $30 win No.3 Aristia
                 $10 each way No.10 Nettoyer
Precedent: No.1 Invincebella

Coolmore Stud Stakes ( could be the best race of the day)

1. No.12 Libertini - 86. Looks well placed. Gets the allowance off the males and she looks nicely placed at teh 1200m. Obviously first run down the straight, but she has the talent to win.
2. No.5 Cosmic Force - 84. Not sure how strong teh form is behind him, but he is ultra consistent and will be in the finish somewhere.
3. No.1 Microphone - 82. Looked to need the run fresh and he was abit anxious in the yard beforehand. If he setlles in the eclosure and looks relaxed, before teh race, he is the one to beat. Looks to have been set for this all spring and has good ability at his best.Good overs.
4. No.2 Bivouac - 80. Hughie jumps on, but not sure that is a plus down the straight where he has a terrible record. The horse has the taolent to win, but I think his grand final was the Golden Rose, and he looks to have dropped his rating from that race! Take him on here for the win.
5. No.6 Exceedance - 80. This looks perfect, if he can handle the straight, which he seemed to do in a jumpout last week. Not much between him and Cosmic Force and again he will be in the top four.
6. No.9 Cardiff - 77. Not sure he can win, but I thought his run when collared by Cosmic Force last start was a carcker. He only knows one way which is to go flat chat, from the gates but he will be in it for a long way.
Add ins for any scratchings are No.4 & No.3
Recommended Bet: $30 win No.12 Libertini
                 $20 win No.1 Microphone
Precedent: No.6 Exceedance

Victoria Derby

1. No.1 Shadow Hero - 85. Looks the logical favourite, but he is short enough for me. No doubt he can win, but he will be running without my money.
2. No.4 Warning - 85. His win two starts ago was very good. Forget the last start where he was in a race which was run at a farcical speed. Back to Flemington, 2500m and a more genuine speed will ensure he gets his chance.
3. No.2 Soul Patch - 82. No luck in the Guineas when he came home the quickets last 200m. Good strong win last week in a race which has been a good guide to this race over the years. 2500m looks not barrier, and should get a lovely run from the gate. Just needs luck at the right time to get in clear running.
4. No.8 Long Jack - 79. Good win at Geelong and the further the distance, looks like the better for him. The barrier is a shocker so will need a gem from Williams, but he has the ability to win.
5. No.3 Thought Of That - 79. No doubt a good win last start, but Linda Meech controlled the race well and he was too good. He has talent, and will run well, but for me is just a place chance.
6. No.10 Southern Moon - 76. Good effort at Geelong, but he looks a top four hope only.

Add ins for any scratchings are No.11 & No.7
Recommended Bet: $50 win No.4 Warning
Precedent: No.4 Warning

Cantala Stakes

1. No.15 Chief Ironside - 86. Top effort last week. Drops down five kilograms, drawn well and should be able to sit just behind the pace which looks good on paper. Good value.
2. No.11 Sikandarabad - 84. Going well, and back to Flemington at the 1600m should get every chance.
3. No.5 Royal Meeting - 82. Looks better placed here than he did at Caulfield. The barrier is a huge hazard to overcome, but he has the ability to do that.
4. No.6 Fierce Impact - 80. If he had drawn a gate I would have had him near the top. He also has to overcome the fact that the winner of the Toorak has a terrible record in this event. Definite top four hope.
5. No.8 Night's Watch - 79. Just out sprinted last start, but he is well weighted here. Would like to see him roll a little more forward than usual, but can win.
6. No.3 Fifty Stars - 77. I still think he needs a soft track to perform at his best, but he loves Flemington, his run in the Epsom was good enough and his Makyb Diva Stakes run has him a winning chance here.
Add ins for any scartchings are No.1 & No.14
Recommended Bet: $20 win No.15 Chief Ironside
                 $10 win + $20 place 5 Royal Meeting
Precedent: No.8 Night's Watch

Begonia Belle Stakes

1. No. 2 - 83
2. No. 4 - 81
3. No. 8 - 79
4. No.11 - 77
5. No. 5 - 76
6. No. 1 - 75
Add ins for any scratchings are No.3 & No.6
Recommended Bet: $50 win No.2 Tofane
Precedent: No.1 Manicure

We sincerely wish all investors the best of luck and lots of success!

VRC Oaks

1. No.3 Gamay - 85. Good win last time out, drawn to be right on speed and looks as though the 2500m will suit. Good overs.
2. No.1 Miami Bound - 84. Her last two runs have been quality and she looked good on saturday. Primed to deliver back to back Wakeful Oaks double winner afetr Aristia last year.
3. No.4 Vegas Jewel - 82. Not much between her and Miami Bound, however the barriers sway me to the other filly. This girl as the talent to win but will need a great ride from Jordan Childs.
4. No.2 Moonlight Maid - 82. Went well against the boys, last week, but Miami Bounds run behind Warning for me is a little better.
5. No.12 Ocean Miss - 77. Good run in the Ethereal but needs to make three lengths up just to get to the quineela from there. Place hope only.
6. No.5 Foxborough - 75. Can not win but a definite top four hope.

Precedent: No.7 Supreme Heights

Riccarton Park

New Zealand 2000 Guineas

1. No.1 Catalyst - 94. The only unknown for me is the 1600m but on his three runs this prep that should be no problem. Clearly the one to beat.
2. No.2 Harlech - 82. Coming good at the right time. Meets the top level here and that is anunknown but he can run well.
3. No.4 Sherwood Forrest - 80. Like the fact he has had the win at 1600m last start. Not sure he can beat the fav, but he will give a good account of himself.
4. No.7 Chuck A Luck - 78. Good run behind Sherwood Forrest latest. He is a bit hit and miss but the 1600m looks to have improved his performances. Place hope.
5. No.11 All About Magic - 76. Comes through the Sherwood Forrest race and he is another who looks like the longer distances have been what he has looked for.

Recommended Bet: $30 win No.8 Carif
                 $20 win No.5 True Self
Precedent: No.5 True Self

Darley Sprint Classic

1. No.1 Santa Ana Lane - 100. No chinks in his armour. Loves the straight, third up record is good, is in form and the smallish field suits his style. Very, very hard to hold out.
2. No.9 Loving Gabby - 85. Top class win last start. Should love the straight, and she is up to this level. Place certainty.
3. No.2 Nature Strip - 84. The 1200m is still a worry, but that last start effort was sensational, a career best run. Comes into this with good straight form and he will give a great sight.
4. No.4 The Bostonian - 82. Finally gets to the straight. Probably needs the soft track conditions to be a winning chance, but he will make his presence felt.
5. No.7 In Her Time - 80. Was disappointing fresh, but her straight track form is good. Can bounce back here.
6. No.6 Zoutori - 78. His run last week was shocking, but the drier the better and his previous run has him right in this, although WFA might have him as just a top four hope.
Add ins for any scratchings are No.8 & No.3
Precedent: No.1 Santa Ana Lane

Matriarch Stakes ( how good a field is this race)

1. No. 3 - 84
2. No. 7 - 83

Recommended Bet: $30 win No.3 Admiral's Joker
                  $10 each way No.10 Reyjkavik
Precedent: No.1 Streets Of Avalon

Mackinnon Stakes ( anyone who says this is not a great field needs to explain why, great race)

1. No.1 Hartnell - 85. Has been really competitive this prep, but gets his chance here. It is his swansong so I hope he goes out a winner.
2. No.8 Kings Will Dream - 84. His last two runs have been very good and he looks well placed here. The only problem is the barrier, but he can get good cover if he gets caught wide.
3. No.15 Melody Belle - 84. Except for Sunline, she is the best NZ mare this century. High class and the 2000m is no trouble.
4. No.16 Aristia - 81. Has to make two lengths up to get to MB but the 2000m is ideal, she loves Flemington and she handles a back up as she won the Wakeful and Oaks last carnival. She is good value here.
5. No.14 Magic Wand - 79. If she lines up she obviously has not taken any harm from Tuesday. On her Cox Plate run she is the one to beat.
6. No.13 Cape Of Good Hope - 79. Not sure he handled the MV track. He has drawn low which will not help as he has no gate speed, but if can find some speed from somewhere, he can finish fast.
Add ins for any scratchings are No.6 & No.5
Recommended Bet: $30 win No.16 Aristia
                  $10 each way No.1 Hartnell
Precedent: No.3 Humidor

Good luck and lots of success for everyone for the rest of the week!

Precedent: No.

Okay after the VRC Week here is where we sit.

Top Selection: 49 winners from 209 races = -$ 1685.00
2nd Selection: 39 winners from 209 races = +$10665.00
3rd Selection: 21 winners from 209 races = -$77385.00
4th Selection: 22 winners from 209 races = -$ 8965.00
5th Selection: 18 winners from 193 races = +$ 9540.00
6th Selection: 20 winners from 189 races = +$41100.00

Total        :150 winners from 209 races = -$26730.00

Quinella: 126 from 209 races = -$ 189.00
Trifecta: 104 from 209 races = -$ 924.00
First 4 : 64 from 209 races = +$5187.00

Total   :                    = +$4074.00

Obviously two anomalies are seen here.

1. The top selection is usually, either a favourite or a short price, so that is why the winners are double any other selection but the profit/loss is in the red, for example today we had Catalyst in the NZ 2000 Guineas as the top selection, and he paid $1.20.

2. The other anomaly is the 3rd selection. This profit/loss shows that a serious run of losing bets severely effects not only the total amount, but the ability or inability, to recover the losses.
