Dwyer claiming that the former Smerdon trained Theanswermyfriend has lost his zip...puts it down to the horses breeding kicking in LOL

Funny enough, says he was setting it for the Straddie but will now have to look at races like the Easter Cup Shocked

If he were mine, I'd be sending him straight to a seaside stable where hopefully the saltwater therapy can ignite the speed back into his legs.

Suspect what Dwyer meansis that he believes the gelding is now looking for more ground, which is understandable given its pedigree suggests it might be better over 1600-2000m.

Only time will tell if he's right or not.

Nothing wrong with that run on the weekend. I thought it was a very good effort. I thought with 200 to go he was going to get swamped and run 4th or 5th but he fought back hard to only just get beat. Brave run, in for a good prep wherever they head to.

Smashed in the betting too.

According to the trainer, if my take is correct,  he's seemingly gone from a group 1 to group 3 horse since he changed stables Shocked

If that's the case he's gonna need gelati loads of saltwater therapy to get back to group 1 level.

How do you get there Rusty?

The new trainer may have thought the gelding had Gp 1 potential, even if its two earlier efforts in such races clearly fell short.  Which means he was a Listed/Gp 3 performer at best when under Smerdon.

Dwyer can train, and he'll almost certainly get the best out of this fellow without the need to resort to sandhills or salt water.

I think most agree that he was group 1 material SC and don't underestimate the performance enhancing benefits of the Warrnambool beach salt water Wink

Good to hear SD, and no doubt he uses it.  However as previously suggested Dwyer will almost certainly get the best out of this fellow without the needing to resort to either sandhills or salt water.  Particularly given that there's zero evidence that the animal has a problem requiring such.  Wink

It's a real head scratcher SD. There is currently no scientific explanation as to why Warrnambool beach salt water seemingly contains performance enhancing qualities yet other beaches such as St Leonards do not.

Reliable sources state further study in to this strange anomaly should be undertaken.

With respect Rusty, even if you're taking the p1ss, please stop inferring "special assistance" without providing any manner of supporting evidence.

Did they actually close down some beaches for horses' use?  I was looking forward to how some trainers were going to explain their horses' big improvement now that they couldn't say "oh he just loves it down at the beach"

Let's clear one thing up. This horse was the most heavily backed horse all weekend. I'm tipping his pre race routine hadn't changed much....

The no good boys at Aquanita sure were good at what they did!

He has performed at Group 1 level, but Theanswermyfriend and trainer Henry Dwyer will be lowering their vision beyond Saturday's Group 3 Victoria Handicap, and likely road-tripping through New South Wales.

The High Chaparral gelding resumed in his autumn campaign with a close second to Sovereign Nation in the Listed March Stakes (1400m), and will be over seven furlongs second-up at Caulfield this weekend.

But beyond that, Dwyer said the silks synonymous with co-owner Rod Lyons - worn by the likes of Group 1 winners Super Elegant and Under The Louvre - could be on a trail of the $200,000 Cups at Hawkesbury (April 28) and Scone (May 11).

"The owners have given me the brief - they don't mind travelling," Dwyer said on Tuesday morning.

"They're keen to get him to NSW and Queensland.

"There's races like the Scone Cup and Hawkesbury Cup, both nice mile races, he's gone well that way [clockwise] previously.

"I wouldn't have thought that'd be an issue to him - and both of those tracks aren't averse to horses that race on the pace.

"So if he can find himself in those Group 3/Listed races, they're his class at this point in time.

"He may be a better-class horse if he can get over further, but for the time being, we'll look at those races."

WATCH: Theanswermyfriend's March Stakes run

Dwyer said on evidence of his first-up run at Flemington, Theanswermyfriend - a brilliant winner over 1400m at HQ in mid-March last year - is yearning for more ground.

"I think he's probably going to be looking for further longer-term. He's relaxing better than he has previously," the Caulfield trainer added.

"He was beaten the other day, but it wasn't a bad run. They went pretty slow, and it probably wasn't run to suit him. In saying that, I don't know how further forward or how much quicker he could have gone, he was pretty content there in his comfort zone not going hard.

"Good sign for a horse looking for further, but it wasn't the right result the other day.

"Having a look at the calendar, probably the better races for him are going to be over a mile over the next three months, so while he may end up getting 2000m longer term, we can keep him to 1400m this Saturday.

"We've got the option of the Golden Mile at Bendigo Saturday-week, but given he'll be at 1600m for his third, fourth runs we don't have to get there straight away."
