The peace treaty that has been off the table for 50 years was put on it this time by Sth Korea, not the US. Sth Korea weren't even signatories to the armistice and cannot do it themselves without UN approval,
At this stage all we have is a proposal representative of both sides on the table forwarded by Sth Korea as an intermediary. The two two demands, treaty v denuclearization are no different to what all previous Presidents found impossible to get over.

Clinton got closest with an agreement for Kim Sr to dismantle their plutonium reactors, replace them with light water reactors and the US would supplement their energy production with oil delivered to them, but GW Bush tore it up by stopping oil delivery in his, Cheney', Bolton et al fake dossiers to eliminate the so called Axis of Evil. Kim nor his son have ever trusted the US since.

Attributing Kimmy with higher intelligence than Trump is like saying a dog is smarter than a cat. It's a view that suits the owner of the dog only. Hey Doc, South Korea has a Ministry of Unification set up in the early 60's. Take a stab at what their day job description includes.
I told you this was on the table in December after the Vladivostok conference China and Russia want the trans Korea railway completed and the 2 Koreas in the Belt and Road.  |
