Come on SC, Gay, and all you other "desperates and dateless" ... it's time we got our gelati together and ride our overdue luck!!!
They are not in the "Rough as Gutz" price category (for me) this week, but I see that I've got a few backing up, and will be in my multis again ... Doomben R1 2. Monteux @ $10.00/$3.20 (Each Way) - scratched again last week and in a more suitable race, but drifting in the betting. Randwick R4 1. Green Sweet @ $14.00/$4.20 (Each Way) - just think he's right now, and has more ability than these. However, I've passed on; Flemington R9 3. Cashed @$26 (early market) ... his t/d form is not great, though I notice he's been backed, so looks like a certainty, now that I'm off him! Now, as for some actual RAG's ... Doomben R8 3. Crab Boy @ $23.00/$6.50 (Each Way) - J Lloyd. Morphettville R3 4. The Mailman @ $23.00/$6.50 (Each Way) - M Payne. Hahaha! not really - I just wanted to say "he always delivers!" Doomben R4 1. Lord Coconuts @ $15.00/$4.20 (Each Way) - beaten by an up and comer 1st up, 2nd up form is 5:0-4-0 and whilst form here at the mile is tragic, 11:0-1-0, but has run 4th or 5th NINE (9) times, often in Open class - BM75 might be more suitable, although we probably should take F4 with him as the anchor for 4th!!! Doomben R6 2. Bel Burgess @ $23.00/$6.00 (Each Way) - J Lloyd. Morphettville R5 4. Snip Of Magic @ $51.00/$14.00 (Each Way) - I just found it interesting that his ONE (1) win at the t/d is ONE MORE than every other runner in the race ... BM64 should suit a winner of 13 races, barrier 2 helps, but hasn't done anything for a long time ... hmmm that's not encouraging is it ... Quinella with 11. Wilander Princess @ $41/$11 ... no reason. |

Time to turn some of those 4ths into 1sts!
Randwick R2 #1. Sayed @ $23.00/$5.50 (Each Way) - take your pick of the recipe for success here - the Waller outsider, best distance and t/d form in the race, eased down with cardiac arrhythmia last start, Jmac retains ride ... ticks all the boxes! Caulfield R4 #20. Painte @ $20.00/$5.50 (Each Way) - 3 wins from 37 says he's not genuine, but 43% place strike rate and $250k prize money says he is capable - no superstars here, he's fit, well drawn, and seems the right grade now he's down in weights, and placed only go at the t/d. It is unusual to see Weir take one over and not get a win after 11 attempts ... overdue! Randwick R5 #8. Momentum Factor @ $71.00/$17.00 (Each Way) - followed this guy based on his breeding as a 2 yo, and he ran a very cheeky race on debut in the Ingham Classic at huge odds. Hasn't really done anything since then to suggest a Stakes win is likely, and especially after an inglorious first up failure last start, but draws well and gets weight relief from the better performed ones ... just maybe? Randwick R7 #3. Boss Lane @ $20.00/$3.90 (Each Way) - been his normal honest self 2 starts back this time in. Very effective this t/d, and looks extremely well placed after simply outclassed, but solid, finishing 4 lengths behind the up and coming G1 stars last time. Drawn to get the gun run here, and he is massive overs to my eye ... $29 with Boost!. Special mention for one that I like, but not a true "Roughie"; Gold Coast R6 #3. Magstock @ $8.50/$2.70 (Each Way) - another that failed last start and found to have pulled up with the "thumps" - amazing how often they win next start, love someone to explain that one to me! ... formerly raced in Singapore, and winner at 1800m and placed at 2000m in Kranji Stakes grade, so 4th up at 1800m would seem suitable in this class, after being close up previous 2 starts here in better class. Good Luck ALL!

This might be THE WEEK!
AR5 #1. Ustinov's Fury @ 126.00 Has had the same preparation as last year when was unplaced 2nd up in Gawler Cup, and then won 3rd up in 1550 BM90 at the Parks track. Won this course, will go to the front, and just keep kicking! ... add #8. Savatag for a huuuuuge quinella! SR8 #11. Isorich(9) @ 71.00 He seems to go around ever other week, and always runs an honest race. Doesn't seem to map overly well here, but this grade with this weight at this course is tasty at the price. BR10 #1. Emphasis (8)@ 41.00 No form first up, no placings at c/d, and best form is 1600m + on good going - so he has nothing going for him. However he has won 4 races at Doomben, and last time 1st up he finished home resolutely for 4th over 1400m - if they go mad up front, he's good enough to win this. Multi @ 237636.00 3 Legs Potential Winnings$250,484 < ="0" ="detailText_f10yd8sa" -automation-id="accordion-er-title" style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px 0px 0.125rem; border-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-color: initial; font-size: 1rem; border-radius: 0px; -webkit-font-smoothing: antialiased; -: none; -: initial; -size: initial; -repeat: initial; -attachment: initial; -origin: initial; -clip: initial; color: rgb0, 119, 204; height: 2rem; vertical-align: text-top; font-family: Roboto, sans-serif;"> Less Number of Combos:4 Stake per Combo:$1.00 |

To celebrate the "roughy" winning last Saturday - yes I was on! - time to resurrect this thread.
Some old faces, and some nice value amongst these - most of them have performed well above their odds in similar or easier fields in the past too! Pending

Having another throw at the stumps ... please gamble responsibly ... and ignore the polls!
SR4#2. Tougherthantherest (6) @ 41.00 - After putting together a handy record in canberra, he was transferred to Waller who thought he was good enough for the Brisbane carnival this time last year - or maybe his owners thought that - anyway, he didn't fire and he is back with original trainer. 3rd up and ready to run well in this grade. MR4#1. Lord Durante (7) @ 67.00 - this old bloke has run some nice races here in better class - could jump to the front and get a soft lead and prove hard to run past - or not. BR5#2. Amanaat (11) @ 16.00 - Has built a handy record in Qld, tricky barrier, tough race, but he's a winner. SR5#1. La Chica Bella (11) @ 61.00 - seemingly out of form, drawn poorly, but could be the best mare in the race. Some rain won't hurt, and this is probably her right class - this time last year, 2nd up here split I Am Serious and Princess Posh - didn't shape up in the Spring in stronger grade. BR6#1. Snippets Land (12) @ 41.00 - Rushed up to Brisvegas on the 7 day back up after nothing run at Randwick (poor record there). Will get back, and was a brilliant winner of this race when run at the Sunny Coast last year. Interesting form line - last year he came via the National Sprint in Canberra where he was 3rd to Tougherthantherest! Won that race himself this year ... interesting, but probably meaningless. BR7#2. Pedrena (1) @ 15.00 - handy mare who may need the run and an extra furlong, but drawn to get a gun run near the pace, and looks overs in a race that could lack depth after the scratchings. SR7#1. Destiny's Kiss (15) @ 21.00 - 3rd up here at 2400m with a chance of rain and 20/1 against the usual suspects? Yes please. BR9#5. Tally (4) @ 14.00 - Reliable bloke who has never ducked a good race and looks like this is his grade. Good run against most of these last time from a wide draw. Fitter and should get his chance 3rd up from barrier 4, and you know he will be trying. MR9#12. Beau Balmain (12) @ 19.00 - Lightly raced 4 yo (just turned) German bred entire with neat record of 4:2-1-0 who was able to win a listed German Derby Trial 2nd up - whatever that form means, fairly good I would think? Had just the one trial here 8th of 8, so fitness would be the query. Price is attractive anyway. |

I think I may have ended a few careers the past couple of weeks with my tips!
Two for the BlackBook were Amanaat and Beau Balmain.
... but I'm backing up on a couple today. Hoping Felaar gets the soft track and settles a bit better in Melb. Endless Drama looks as good a chance as anything in the Straddie. Very small bets on Exoteric in Brisvegas and Boss Lane in Sydney. Need some luck soon ... can't wait another 3 years for the Coalition to go around as good things again! |

Brisbane - Race 9 No. 8 Red Alto $61 Was only beaten 3.2 lengths in the Doomben Cup & now meets Sixties Groove 3kg better for finishing 2.3 lengths behind him. Last spring, he won the 2400m Bendigo Cup at huge odds. Hoping history repeats! Brisbane - Race 7 No. 12 Lord Arthur $26 Started favourite in the Grand Prix but settled with tailenders in a race where the leader led by many lengths in moderate time which made it impossible for him particularly considering that he came down the outside which was the slowest part of the track. The jockey stopped riding before the 200 & just coasted to the line. I'm prepared to forgive him & go on his previous good win in a Gp2 in New Zealand. Brisbane - Race 8 No. 12 Deploy $23 His best form is good enough to win this & his first up run was quite good. Brisbane - Race 8 No. 15 Princess Posh $26 Finished better & just in front of Trekking in the Kingsford Smith & now meets him on similar terms. I think they should be closer in the market. |

There are a couple of runners in the Toorak that I feel have good chances at big odds. Caulfield - Race 9, No. 18 Miss Siska $34 She's my equal rated horse (with Waging War) based on her effort in the Queen Of The Turf S back in April. Obviously need to disregard his latest run. Caulfield - Race 9, No. 15 Order Again $81 Have him in my top five based on his form during the Winter Carnival. He is capable of some brilliant final sections. I've got to have a small investment on him at those odds & include him in exotics. |

CARIF - ATC St Leger
By SYT out of Norzita, so he’s got the great Bart Cummings trained parentage. Takes on some seasoned stayers tomorrow but he might be worth a few golden coins at 25/1. In the autumn he was only 4 Len behind The Chosen One in the Frank Packer Plate & a few starts later was only 4 Len behind Mr Quickie in the QTC Derby. Last start in the Hill Stks was only 3 Len off Verry Elegant. K.McEvoy sticks on him tomorrow too. |

I only need one of them to place and I’m happy. |
