Why does every debate here always turn into a weird obsession with 1. aussie politics and 2. cash? Maybe coz it's a racing forum. This thread should talk more about Merkel's experiment, IMO, than whatever Turncoat and Shortpants are blathering about, and the effects it will have on our pockets.

Sorry, I thought refugees were a very real GLOBAL problem, which Oz has very little to do with.

And refugees have nothing to do with other politicians or their policies either? You letting Angela Merkel off the hook?

Hell no I'm not letting Angela Merkel off the hook! She made a huge mistake that will have global consequences, IMO. (Australia is actually just an isolated island, you know. We don't have a clue what is going on overseas.)

No, no, no ... no crisis, what crisi? ... no ghettos, no unemployment or housing or crime or terrorism issues ... oh yes, and no English or integration required either!Dead

Seems a little odd when Manly has housed 14 refugees in the past SEVEN (7) YEARS ... yep TWO (2) per year ... most of the elite latte society suburbs, full of left wing activists and SJWs share similar numbers or less ... the small group of poor buggers who do get lobbed in those unforgiving left wing LGA's, and have to put up with the hand wringers and Trump deniers must really wonder what they did wrong to deserve it ... in fact, you could hardly blame those ones for NOT learning the language or culture, and avoiding integration at all cost!  Thumbs Up

Half of Australia's 12,000 Syrian and Iraqi refugees to be settled by just one Sydney council

At least half of Australia's special intake of 12,000 Syrian and Iraqi refugees will be settled in one part of western Sydney within 12 months, prompting community leaders to plead for more federal government support to deal with the unusually high intake.

Fairfield City Council, which welcomed 3000 humanitarian arrivals from the two war-torn countries in 2016, has been told by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection to expect the same again. Overall, the council area took in triple their usual annual humanitarian intake last year.

Great, dump them in one area and create more enclaves. It's worked so well in the past, let's do that again. Confused

Couldn't be certain, but maybe the median price of $3.2 million for houses in those places doesn't lend itself to public housing?

aa, you need to understand, the average SJW who proliferates the exclusive leafy eastern suburbs of Sydney just loves to talk the left wing-nut talk over their chai lattes. Sitting in an expensive cafe with their smashed avo, they can sit and hand wring and be OUTRAGED with like minded elites of the exact same cultural background and university education as them. When they are finished saving the world in their own lunchtime, they then drive home in their gas guzzler to their ducted air conditioned mansion, and in their absence, the air is guaranteed to have been on all day and night in every room on a day like today, as has the pool filter and the clothes drier! They have been responsible for a carbon footprint about 20 times that of those miscreants of the right whom they accuse of climate denial, racism, Islamophobia, etc. Interestingly, whilst they may have a token openly gay acquaintance (who they have never invite to their home), they have never actually seen a burqa, a shisha, or a person of African appearance ... sorry, that's not true - they receive a Christmas Card* and a photo every year from the child in Africa who they send $10 a month to sponsor, so as to soothe their feelings of guilt ... of course, they don't want them visiting perchance, and would be prepared to pay extra to ensure that never happens!Cry I guess they are so busy with all of that, it has simply slipped their minds to petition the appropriate people and demand their fair share of refugees settle in their suburbWink

* I always find it interesting that they get a Christmas Card from a Muslim?Confused ... anyhow.

Update: We are overwhelmed with the support and have increased our target so that there can be multiple billboards across the country in time for Australia Day.

In 2016 two young girls went down to Docklands in Melbourne to celebrate Australia Day. A photo taken of them on that day was used in a billboard to promote Australia Day 2017.

The same groups who complain 'Muslims don't assimilate', complained about the photo OF AUSTRALIAN MUSLIMS CELEBRATING AUSTRALIA DAY. And due to this pressure the billboard was removed. If you or your business thinks this is not ok, please help us fund a billboard and print campaign featuring these two girls promoting Australia Day.

The more money we raise, the more places we can run the ad. And if you’re a company or organisation willing to donate $1500 or more, your logo will appear on the ad to show your support for an inclusive Australia.

Any left over money will be donated to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.

Who we are: Dee Madigan - Executive Creative Director, Campaign Edge

Campaign Edge is an advertising agency that works with progressive and brand clients to develop creative campaigns that persuade people.

What is our relationship to this: No relationship, we just want to see these two Australian girls put back up on a billboard about Australia Day.

How will the funds be used: We’re talking to media buyers now, but we’re looking at a full page press ad and a billboard to start, with any additional funds to be used to buy more billboards if we can!

We would love to hear from media owners who would be willing to run these ads at a discounted rate or with fees waived. (create@campaignedge.com.au)

We will use the funds to place the ads, our time is donated (If there is any money left over it will go to ASRC).

Nice photo - it really draws attention to the misogynistic views of the Muslim faithful, and how demeaning and degrading the religion is of women.Unhappy

I can't see why the billboards should be brought down though, very clever, two important messages for the price of one!Clap

Yeah yeah .   I get all that.     I do.  Thumbs Up   Seriously.Big smile
But why is there no public housing in the areas I mentioned ?  Since PT says they can only be settled in public housing ??   Why is public housing only out west, and not in leafy Mosman and Double Bay  ?
Isnt that segregation ???  Or racism ? Or something like that ??
Why cant an enclave be set up in Double Bay for the Sudanese reffos ??
Why do the western burbs get all the luck ???
The eastern burbs deserve some share of this wonderful idea of integration surely ??    They are the ones who push for this grand idea.   Move them in next to John Symonds and his mates.
Just MHO tho.
I am sure PT has a valid reason for this not happening,,,,just as its not happening in his neck of the woods.
Or mine,,yet,,thankfully .

aa, if they had to actually live and integrate with the w.ankers who live in those areas, they would be sewing their ears shut, and booking themselves on the next boat to Syria! LOL

... maybe the answer to the refugee crisis is as simple as that! ... get all the Nauru and Manus detainees and board them with an Eastern suburbs Social Justice Warrior type for a week ... once the word gets out about Australia's inhumane treatment of refugees, there will never be another boat person coming in our direction again!Thumbs Up

This is what's happened to our Public Housing ..

Sydney waterfront public housing properties to be sold off

I thought you were a neo-liberal ''it's all about the market'' type? What does the market say on this issue?

Didn't the public want Barangaroo used for public housing? What happened? The state govts big casino lobby won over because the land was too ''valuable(commercially only) to put poor people in. Water views are only for rich Asian gamblers, not to solve social problems.

The state govt boasts they are debt free and in surplus after selling off $15billion of public assets. There is plenty of crown land in and around the state. Why can't they simply ''solve'' these major housing and infrastructure problems? They don't want to. The state govt is responsible for spending on education, health, public housing, power, road and rail infrastructure, water etc. More important people to use that money on than housing it seems?

So if you want to gripe about where people are or aren't, contact the very flush Mike Baird and ask him, don't bitch at the people who have no control over it.

I see there are a group of people who are suddenly getting global attention because they are offending the sensibilities of our foreign visitors to the tennis.

They have been there a year, but now all of a sudden politicians are scurrying to do something about homeless people not just going away and dying somewhere out of sight.

Maybe a couple of hundred people need to squat outside the Opera House to make Mr Baird pay attention.

Never fear though, soon as the jobs start flooding in from Mr Morrison/Turnbull's fantastic #jobsandgrowth revolution, nobody will be homeless, so it shouldn't be an issue for much longer. Or maybe...Ermm
