I do not see him as improving on the poor culture.

Hopefully he is smart enough to know to pull it into line, but i doubt it.

Cricket Australia denies Justin Langer named as new head coach

Cricket Australia has refuted claims that West Australian Justin Langer will be installed as national coach on Friday.

An online report in The West Australian on Wednesday afternoon claimed the 47-year-old's new position would be ratified at a CA board meeting on Friday.

“The process to be undertaken for the appointment of a new coach will be discussed and agreed at the CA board meeting this Friday," a CA spokesman said.

"No appointment has been made, and nor will any candidate be put to the board for ratification on Friday.

"We expect to have a clearer understanding of the approach and appointment timelines following this meeting."

Langer has coached WA and the Perth Scorchers for the past five seasons and was favoured along with former paceman Jason Gillespie to replace Darren Lehman after he quit following last month's ball-tampering scandal in South Africa.

Langer is well regarded as a mentor and strategist, winning three BBL and two ODI titles with WA and the Perth Scorchers and instilling a strong team culture at the WACA, with CA previously using him as head coach in other forms of the game.

A determined, gritty opening batsman for Australia, Langer's position that the head coach's role should oversee all three international formats is at odds with CA, who prefer it be split.

Gillespie and ex-captain Ricky Ponting, two of Langer's playing teammates, are frontrunners to coach Austalia in shorter form of the game.

The best two cricketers available for selection have been discarded, Nathan Lyon and Usman Khawaja who could not even make the squad.

I had my doubts about Langer and this confirms it.

Lyon and Khawaja should be in our best 11 in all 3 formats let alone this basic second 11 outfit.

The argument for Lyon not playing white ball cricket is they say the adjustment from format to format could disrupt his game however batsmen seem to do it ok. Khawaja should be at 3 and Lyon the spinner, also is this a make or break series for Maxwell?

Poor little precious snowflake, Australia's former sledger in chief Little Davey Warner, walked off while batting during a grade game in Sydney after being sledged by Philip Hughes brother.

Until I know what exactly happened I am on Warners side.

If true I would imagine a sledge from Hughes brother would have a little more sting to it.

I am not on anybody's side but he left the crease and told the umpire he was withdrawing from the game.  That is retirement by the rules and he should never have been allowed to return to the crease.

No doubt some will want to paint this as a mental health issue.  Others will say live and die by the sledge.  I say follow the rules.

Apparently within the rules of the Sydney grade competition.

I read a boffins explanation of the specific rules that covered that scenario.

Not a great demonstration of mental toughness, from a guy who’s revelled in dishing it out for a decade.

I wonder what was said, probably something about his wife ?
Jason Hughes seems like a piece of work too, you would possibly expect that after his brother's death he would reflect a little, realise what is really important, and control his comments slightly in a grade cricket match

The Hughes family have always blamed(rightly or wrongly) the sledging and targeting of Phil's head during the match he was killed. Warner was fielding at gully when he was hit, as as sledger in chief, they maybe dont accept his testimony, or the coroner's finding and still believe Warner played a part in his death.

Okay that explains it. A perfect demonstration on my part how easy it is to jump to conclusions without all the facts Embarrassed, but really Jason should get over it.

Did Warner contribute to the death or are they looking for someone to blame ?  Sledging is commonplace and Phil would have experienced a lot during his career. If he reacted badly in this case and lost concentration whose fault is that ?

Also wasn't it a bit of a freak how he died

Anyway the public will never know the truth

When I played if anyone pulled a stunt like that their innings was over.

Sure you would cut some slack for players in distress but Warner told the umpire he was withdrawing from the game and that should have been the end of it.   Off you go princess.

The soap opera behind it is irrelevant.

Have to laugh about Cricket Australia coming out and saying the bans should be lifted on the cheats.
Their reasoning being they have been humiliated enough.
I’m not sure if they are talking about the cheats or our current players?

Softy, it's the Players Association that is calling for a reduction in the bans.

Its logic for this is that the Report into Australian Cricket points to a culture fostered by Cricket Australia itself, and which must therefore accept culpability and some degree of responsibility for creating and fostering an environment which led to the disgraceful events in south Africa.  In essence, that the three cohorts were not entirely and fully responsible for their actions.

Here's part of the background:

The review, released yesterday, described Australia's players as living in a "gilded bubble — disconnected, for much of each year, from families, friends and the grounding influence of community".

The report also found that CA is perceived to be "arrogant and controlling", the consensus being that the organisation does not live up to its values, further accusing CA of not handling situations which go against them well by reverting to "bullying tactics or worse, ostracising".

It states that poor on-field and off-field behaviour was tolerated by CA, including abusive sledging of opponents and disrespect of umpires.

A lot to that Softy, but mostly I think Channel 7 paid a lot of money for the rights to cricket and with prominent players sitting on the sidelines and a team that can't beat anyone, SEVEN and CA  must be worried about their sponsors.

Spot on SC ... funny how the inquiry found that the blame was attributable to many more within the organisatiuon than the three players who were suspended.

However, rather than recommending more sanctions, sacking or suspensions, they recommend reducing the players' suspensions!

Self interested pricks, as CNNPT said, they are panicking about TV ratings, not worried about punishing those who deserve to be punished ...

Sorry, they did the crime, do the time - feel lucky that they get a chance to play for Australia ever again.

It got too hot in the kitchen.  The Fijitsu must be playing up.  Angry

Pity.  I thought Taylor would have made a good chair.  I am reading into this that CA is about to do a backflip on the cheats and Taylor was invested in them doing their time.

Just to be clear I thought the penalties were too long but once imposed they needed to be served in full.
