i know Barry has a big opinion of him. The horse had a very bad head injury a couple of years ago and it has taken a long time to get back. Looks like plenty more wins in store

If there is one thing you need if you're to be a chance after missing the start by so far, it's for them to go slow, which they did. It meant he was able to tack on without doing too much early work. When they go fast after you've missed the kick you're no hope as you're chasing hard from start to finish.

He did a Chautauqua in the barriers. Just stood there and jumped well after the rest had left. So I'd say as excited as they'd be, they'd also be quite concerned.

I remember John Marshall rode a winner after missing the start by a similar margin, he did not chase after the field, he just hung back and let the horse do what the horse did. Pretty sure it was a hot tempo.

Think the horses name was Knightage ?

Who is the most famous big race winner who won after missing the start by "a furlong" ?

Sorry, it was a loss, Shannon missing the start by 100m and going down by a head in a Epsom.

Can’t be doing that against good horses.
Says a lot about the horses he beat yesterday.

Interesting doco over Xmas on CH 528 of OZ racing during the hard years ( G. McNeice) it showed Shannon being left badly in that Epsom , apparently the starter was concentrating on another runner lining up to the stand barrier and took his eye of Shannon when he let them go , there was a quick shot of the race field in an open race book Shannon had 60kg and the bottom weight had 36-1/2 kg ( and ran) it was in the old scale but I calculated to the equivalent, no wonder when he went to America he was good enough to break a world record, great horse by Midstream I loved the breed fwiw.

Australian racing is only good up to 1400m in terms of world standards when it comes to depth/quality in numbers

Jock made right choice in coming out. Horse then became wayward especially when gaps started closing.

The horse is clearly not liking whatever the jockey is doing well before they attempt to go through gaps.
