Has anyone noticed that there is a "no metro wins in the last year" race at rosehll on sat and another at Randwick next week? Unless I am mistaken isn't this the first time in years? I am curious as to the reason for this.

On another note, Scouting Wide has been nominated for the the nmly this weekend. It is a handicap race and he has been allocated 65kgs. How does this work? I had assumed that it was open for all comers and the top weight would get 58-60 and the rest weighted relevant to the toppie. Seems they only want emerging or underperforming horses in the race.

Although I am happy with the opportunities it has created. Just curious on these points.

There was one last Saturday, Race 1 - the 2000m race won by Merensky Reef.

There have been No Metro Wins races for a fair while, but not sure about NMWLY races.

As for the weight, if there is a disparity in regards to the rest of the field, they'll give that weight.

It's like when Red Lord had 66kg.

Not surprising really, a pity as he was a decent horse on his day.

This is part of an initiative from Racing NSW to boost field sizes in out of season competition. It was considered that these races, together with 0MW and 1MW races would be attractive to a wider pool of horses and could work in conjunction with the discretionary handicap allowance for country horses.
