Thanks ladies.

We went down and were delighted with the run.  Regan Bayliss said the riderless one got him on the steel just a bit which possibly made the difference.  David Eustace said they'd see how he pulled up before making firm plans, but suggested the Carbine Club on Derby Day was a chance otherwise they might save him for the Sandown Guineas another two weeks later.

Just as an aside, we saw the colt prior to the race and asked the strapper what his stable name was, and he said they hadn't actually settled on one.  We said he'd been brought up as "Harry" but of course he hadn't been called that for 18 months.  So we called out his nickname and his ears immediately picked up, then repeated the exercise with the same result!  So we strongly suggested they call him by that name in future.  Smile

The second favorite has just been scratched, along with an earlier roughie.

We could now run 2nd, and may even be a blowout chance of winning.

ps SC, don't get ahead of yourself.  Embarrassed

Thanks folks.  The final 100m was his best.

Trainers expected him to lead, try to get some cheap mid-race sectionals, and hopefully skip away.

You could say things didn't exactly go to plan.  Ouch

Canberra Guineas on Sunday for Harry, they put up $8 and $2.75 which I've been happy accept.

On form he'd have to be close to an each-way special, but Hughie can turn in more than the occasional ordinary ride on days when there's bigger fish to fry ie the Black Opal etc.

Harry flucs since betting opened about 2 hours ago: $8, $7, $5, $4.80.

That doesn't help him win though.

Ran 6th as favorite, and couldn't find any excuses whatsoever.

Still, that's his first ordinary performance so he'll hopefully return to form next start.

Hope things turn around next time, always frustrating when the ducks are in line and no quack!
Wish they could talk sometimes, the horse that is.

Yes she is and a really good sort. Good run by January all the same, given her size she holds her own.

I always love it that Biscay goes back to the dam of The Tetrarch.  His out and out best was Bounding Away and she was a grey with the Sovereign Edition cross.  Often wondered if the right genes came through because of the Rocking Horse's line.

Forgot to mention that Yulong January pulled his hamstring badly in that last run and will be off the scene for some time.  Has been boxed, now out to a small paddock and even in a best case scenario won't resume until about September-October. Must proceed slowly as it'll be the end of him if the injury recurs/becomes chronic.

Sad to say Duty With Honour died overnight, apparently from natural causes. Thought I'd briefly share her history with you.

We bought Duty as a yearling for $13,000 in 2001, and sent her to Robbie Griffiths.  She displayed early ability and was entered for a maiden and a Class 1 at Bendigo as a Spring 3yo.  We knew the form for the class 1’s but not for the maiden so accepted in the latter where we got 12/1 about her and took home a load of cash.  I also accepted a limited edition horse statuette and six ice cold cans from the racing club, however only the former made it home to Wangaratta.

Duty was never really sound, but went on to win in town along with an exasperating five 2nds in the metropolitan area from just 18 starts.  She was only three times out of the first six in all her races and was retired as soon as pain got the better of her.

She was ever a feisty mare, being very protective of her foals.  And a bit of a nutter too, as she had the habit of bashing her head on anything handy when in a bad mood.  One year when not in foal she smashed through a gate into another paddock and bailed up a mare and foal in the paddock shed as if to say “I want that foal!"

At stud she had eight foals, three of whom died prematurely - two from snakebite and one from colic.  Four of the remainder have raced, all are winners, with best of them being Justify That (a dual stakes-winner of 13 races) and Yulong January (just a 3yo but already a city winner of three races and twice stakes placed from 8 starts).  Her remaining foal is a big, unraced 2yo named Double Wraps who trainer Danny Williams has a high opinion of.

Duty suffered from chronic arthritis in a knee over recent years but was otherwise well.  She was in foal to the champion US miler Frosted at the time of her passing.  She's been part of our lives for eighteen years and will be sadly missed.

Sounds a bit like one of my Dad’s old mares, took protecting her foals to a new level.

What a life of ups & downs! She certainly lived up to your opinion of her as both a race mare & broody, tho' good luck could have gone your/her way on a few more occasions.
Snakebite x 2 was incredibly bad luck as they're not that common Cry
Overall, she did you proud, especially considering her purchase price & perceived non commercial page Big smile She can now RIP, pain free & nanny to all the foals she feels the need to care for Heart
Wisdom has been chasing me but I've always outrun it!

Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts.

Here she is with Harry aka Yulong January.

You can see there's not  a lot of her, however she's produced foals of all sorts and sizes.
