Hinchinbrook ?
Northern Meteor ? Scat Daddy ? + more......... These horses who are the most valuable assets the throughbred industry have. Treated with kid gloves and grazing on the best manicured pastures possible. So whats going wrong, what are they doing that they wouldn’t do in the wild. Serving 150 - 180 mares over a 5 month period? Day and night duties, Must put enormous pressure and strain on their hindquarters and hind legs. 550+ kg bearing down on legs not designed for such rigerous work. Hot Spot bone stress injuries, hairline fractures, bone fatigue anyone ?? Corporate greed and money preceeding the proper care of animals, surely not!!! The stud farms are devastated!! they have no choice they must move on. |

Scat Daddy died of a heart attack.
Northern Meteor died of Colic. Horses are very fragile animals. Your complete conspiracy theory is just rubbish.

Not to mention accidents just happen. No matter how careful people are, they are animals that do unpredictable things. Look at what happened to Danehill.

It’s the same with any human, you could die at any second.

I’d say plenty more stallions would die if they lived in the wild than at a farm. But I would not put it past a few places to “move them on” for insurance purposes - of course not these sorts of stallions as it would be like blowing up a mint.

Alydar had a more than suspicious death and yet it was superficially like "blowing up a gold mine". Against that, thoroughbred's can be so accident prone it is unbelievable - the Aussie Stock Horse seems bomb proof in comparison.
... And then there are stallions...

Mmmm, healthy TB’s easily have an average life span of 30years or so. I’ve always wondered why so many stallions, usually very average or aging ones, seem to die well before their natural life expectancy? |

So really, retiring Chautuaqua does not protect him from harm.

Well we also say an average life for a person is somewhere in the 80's now. Lots still die in childhood and that's not because they served too many mares. Honestly accidents happen all the time with horses. I once saw a mare going out to be served (non thoroughbred) who reared up at the wrong time hit her head and dropped down dead. I've seen horses galloping in paddocks mistime there stop and hit the fence etc. I seen horses just playing around and slide over. They don't just sit and desks and type all day. They play and run and the stallions really get around their paddocks. So stop with the imaginings and pity the stud loosing a stallion which they have looked after. Reports this morning about a racehorse just arrived in Australia from New Zealand who has died after scouring. They get sick also just like people do. Life is full of dangers. More for them but you can't just wrap them up in cotton. They'd probably overheat in summer and die of heat stress!

Oh and yes they serve more mares than they used too. But they also don't serve a mare as many times as they used too due to modern vet practices.
