Gay, I am curious. You have noted that police are monitoring forums and serious matters such as this subject, but how is free speech, even if its an opinion (opinions are opinions, and opinions cant be wrong), thats what an opinion is, be of any detriment? People speak as much garbage as they want. Would have thought police would take anything with a grain of salt, especially on a forum.

anyway, like the vast majority of public, we wish the police well with this investigation. its great that it is even regarded a police matter, not just an internal racing investigation.

I'm sure I speak for the Mayor by suggesting he'd rather not take the risk of having it tested in court.
Equally any one of you may believe your ID is well hidden but if an officer senses you may have some evidence worth following up, I'm sure he'll track you down, it's their profession after all.
Bottom line = not worth the risk Big smile

I doubt they’re looking for opinions, more so for names and events of interest that posters may be aware of.

Interesting Move...

Jarrod McLean has reportedly applied to take over the Warrnambool stables of disgraced trainer Darren Weir.

The Warrnambool Standard has reported McLean, who has been allowed to continue training as he fights charges including allegedly possessing a jigger, wants the $1 million stable complex previously occupied by Weir's Warrnambool team.

The Standard reported that McLean, who oversaw the day-to-day running of Weir's operation, is seeking the main barn which includes 43 boxes left empty after Weir was banned for four years earlier this month.

The application is set to be considered by Racing Victoria’s licensing panel which is set to meet next month.

No date has been set for McLean's case, which will be heard by the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board.

Racenet is awaiting a response from Racing Victoria on the matter of McLean’s application for the Warrnambool stables.

The training team of Ciaron Maher and David Eustace recently received approval to take over Weir’s former Ballaratstable Forest Lodge.

Meanwhile, the police investigation into the Weir matter has intensified with police this week taking statements from more than a dozen ex-Weir staff members.

The Herald Sun has also reported a Warrnambool house belonging to an associate of McLean was searched by police earlier this week.

If they let him take over those stables, they might as well just shut up shop on racing full stop. Shouldn’t be allowed near a horse or a racetrack.

The Victoria Police probe into disgraced horse trainer Darren Weir has widened, with further property raids and interviews in Warrnambool.

Officers from the sporting integrity intelligence unit searched a house belonging to an associate of Weir’s former stable foreman Jarrod McLean on Tuesday.

The house is occupied by a person well known in country racing circles and believed to be licensed by Racing Victoria.

Detectives also interviewed a string of former Weir employees in Warrnambool as the investigation into the exiled former champion trainer continues.

Weir is disqualified for four years after three electronic jiggers were found in the master bedroom of his Ballarat stable complex.

A fourth jigger was found on a property connected to McLean.

Jiggers are sometimes used in racing to shock horses into better performances. The practice is regarded as barbaric.

Weir, McLean and stable employee Tyson Kermond were arrested and released without charge following stable raids on January 30.

Police on Wednesday confirmed they visited Warrnambool but declined to go into detail.

“Detectives from the sporting integrity intelligence unit were in Warrnambool on Wednesday as part of an ongoing investigation … linked to thoroughbred racing,” a spokeswoman said.

It is expected statements will be taken from scores of figures across the racing industry as part of the probe.

Weir, 48, is being investigated by police on several fronts. One element of the Victoria Police probe relates to “engaging in conduct that corrupts or would corrupt a betting outcome”.

Another is the “use of corrupt conduct information for betting purposes”.

Possible animal cruelty is another line of inquiry.

Racing Victoria investigators had Weir and McLean under surveillance for 18 months before a referral to police in August last year.

RV officials do not have the power to carry out some investigative functions, such as tapping phones.

Police, accompanied by Australian Federal Police and racing integrity operatives, executed warrants at properties near Warrnambool and Ballarat last month.

Apart from the jiggers, the raid uncovered an unlicensed firearm and a substance believed to be cocaine.

Racing is awash with rumours of a video involving alleged maltreatment of a horse on a treadmill.

Racing integrity chief Jamie Stier said Racing Victoria did not have the video, but had encouraged members of the public with information to contact it or police.

McLean is yet to face the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board over four charges relating to the jigger, failing to give evidence, failing to obey a steward’s direction and conduct prejudicial to racing.

He has indicated he intends to contest the charges.

Craig Newitt fronted Victorian stewards yesterday as part  of a major probe into jockey betting.

Racing Victoria chief steward Robert Cram offered “no comment” when asked specifically if Newitt had been ordered to RV headquarters at Flemington but confirmed there had been action taken as part of the on-going investigation.

Newitt did not respond when asked by RSN’s “Unbridled” if he had been interviewed by stewards.

Cram confirmed the probe involves the potential betting activities of a number of jockeys and it is understood these jockeys are not confined to Tasmania, where Newitt is based.

Newitt moved back to his home state in August 2017, citing family lifestyle reasons plus a concession that his opportunities had begun to dry up on the mainland.

He won the Hobart Cup earlier this month aboard Eastender but was suspended for careless riding three days later. He returns on February 24.

When he confirmed a fortnight ago that he would be required to meet Victorian stewards, Newitt said “I’m not too worried about it.”
