This is a family that the Wertheimer brothers invested into a long while ago and they have Solemia and also the G1 winning 2yo Silasol this year. They also raced Poliglote so it is very much a homebred mating. Alan Porter has helped with their matings for well over a decade. The Dubawi/Solemia mating was done as he has a good record with Sadler's Wells and the family can get a bit dour. Its actually a very similar mating to Dubawi's G1 winner Hunters Light.

Speaking of Silasol. She is an interesting one as being by Gulch out of a Storm Cat mare you would immediately think of sending her to America to be bred as there might be more suitable options there, but Alan gave them Monsun as the first recommendation for the mare.

Interesting too. There is a close relative to Solemia's sire Poliglote standing in NSW. His name is Five Dynasties, he's by Danehill and out of Poliglote's sister and won the King Edward VII at Royal Ascot for aiden O'Brien. We continually lament the lack of staying stallions in Australia. here's one that's pretty cheap.

Solemia is also a case against those that hold bias against foals out of old mares. There is obviously statistical data to back up this bias but I have often found it is really a case by case basis (usually directly correlated to the quality of the uterus/endometrial wall at time of conception) and you can get a great foal out of an old mare. Again anecdotally, some of the older mares that have stakes winners late in life, are usually mares that look after themselves quite well and have a general physiology that belies their age.

Excuse my ignorance Byron, if this is common practice or easily looked at, but is there a way to tell the condition of the uterus/wall? Is there a test to perform?
