THE Southern District racing community is mourning the loss of Deniliquin trainer Tommy Lanyon.

Lanyon, who passed away last month, trained at Deniliquin from 1998 and was a jockey and trainer based at Caulfield before then.

His first ride was a winner at Moonee Valley and then took to a career at the jumps when weight became an issue.

Lanyon enjoyed success with Stynes in recent times, most recently in the Diggers Cup at Deniliquin.
