Having been invited to my niece's wedding I'm returning to Adelaide, Oz this coming week.
First time in 5 years and only my 5th visit in 25 years. I'm looking forward to the visit as I will see members of my family I have not seen in a long, long time. I will also be coming to OZ with my better half who will be joining me in Istanbul. It will be her first visit and she is very excited. One of her life's dreams was to come to Oz after reading the translation of The Thorn Birds in Ukrainian while in high school.

Of course one of the things I'll do is visit the track. Not sure how that will pan out. A trip to Victoria will be on the cards because I have an aunt there. So a metropolitan track might fit in. Never been to Moonee Valley so a the night meeting in the summer.

My apartment in the center of city of Adelaide will be available so city living should be a charm. Probably will keep away from Hindley St. but visits to the Adelaide Casino will also be on the schedule if not a bit regular since I play poker Tongue

Barossa Valley and River Murray trips as I remember when I lived in Adelaide were worthy trips to show.

I'd like to see the new Adelaide Oval. It will be a bit different to when Hookes played for SA. BTW Hookes went to my high school and my close relatives still live in that area so I hope the weather is warm enough for a swimming!

Also by chance if I meet anyone from TBV that would be interesting!

Cheers

Returning to Oz is always interesting! Did it this year after just 6 weeks away, and gee it's an island! A nice island, but certainly cut off from the rest of the world!
Don't know if it's much like The Thorn Birds or the days of Hookes these days, but the Murray flows on, Barossa is gold, and Adelaide is still probably Adelaide.

Thanks for your comments!

It was an island when I left 1975 and then I returned in 1985 and decided that the OZ was just to far when the xUSSR broke up. More so Adelaide. So I think your comment about Adelaide being Adelaide will stick!

I will give my feeling about how this all turns. My mother has given me an assignment to go to Hahndorf
on the next day I'm back. That should test my driving skills. Then again what I've seen here in Istanbul... It should be much better!

^LOL ... SA has probably gone backwards about 20 years in the 5 you've been away ... now known as Mainland Tasmania!!!

I'm sure you will have a ball, especially if you go to Melbourne - leaving Victoria is always a high light - as we always say in Sydney, the best thing to come out of Victoria is the Hume Highway!Wink

Don't forget McLaren Vale for the reds!Thumbs Up
In reference to every post in the Trump thread ... "There may have been a tiny bit of license taken there" ... Ok, Thanks for the "heads up" PT!

Thanks for the reminder.

I do remember in my youth many a storm that caused an outage. I've been following this winter's weather in Adelaide and it looks like that an outage is a possibility.

Hopefully I wont see an earthquake, fire and some other natural disaster which seem to happen more often than not.

Interesting that you point out about how regressive SA is.
At the time I was leaving for the US a few of my friends left for NSW and Vic. Some came back, some didn't and of course some returned back like my sistah and brudder who could not hack the USofA.
I've had conversations over the years and I will be interested in what they say.

My niece's wedding was supposed to be at McLaren Valen but they changed their minds and it's at Currency Creek. A little bit more south towards Victor Harbour.

And yes the OZ wines are high on my agenda!

Cheers!

Landed at Adelaide Airport. Great view of the city as we flew by and in close proximity to Adelaide Oval.

Had a bit of turbulence on the 13 hr flight from Doha in WA and over the Bight. Also hit the cold front that I guess dropped temps from what I was told a hot weekend.

Airport looks a bit upgraded from I last saw it. International arrivals was a breeze and passport control efficient, (not like Istanbul at the 3rd busiest airport in Europe where it took 45 mins to get through it)

Customs is pretty strict compared to what I have faced in US and Europe. Puppy dog took a couple of sniffs without a howl and they passed us through!

More fun later!

Hindley St is still Hindley St but on a Friday evening have a poke around Leigh and Peel Sts (just off Hindley) and grab a drink or two. Worth a look. Glenelg was never my cup of tea but the Henley-Grange stretch of beach and foreshore is good. Any of the wine regions. Clare's my favourite but a bit further away. There are some beauties just up in the Hills.

Adelaide Oval is simply brilliant. Make sure you catch something there.

Welcome home, Brudder A.
Its a bit of a culture shock coming back home after years away.
I will be interested to hear how you find things, and how you enjoy the place.

Thanks Judge and AA for your comments.

I've been inundated with many different things that I have seen here in Adelaide in the first few days that its not possible to digest it all at once.

There are many things:

The cost of living and the general price difference between the USA / Turkey / Ukraine and Australia since this is where I live and have been spending my time of late. And I have quickly confirmed that OZ is without a doubt an expensive place to live

I went to the Adelaide Market and had a good look there. The quality was very high for a market compared from what I just had in Turkey but the price really was at the very high end.

But then again I rode on the tram to Hindmarsh for free and also Victoria Square to the market so there was/is a bit of bonus...
