My jaundiced, cynical assumption is that bookies love problem gamblers. Do bookies ever close accounts for excessive losing?

One rang up about 5 years ago, asked why i hadn't had a bet with them in nearly a year.  Said I was at Uni on a student allowance getting $150 a week.  Was expecting reply of "oh ok".  Instead got offered  $3000 credit over the phone without even asking for it.

I don't imagine donut shops offer credit, send gifts and other inducements to big losers to restart the habit.

But heroin dealers probably do.

Nobody forces people to gamble, when bookies put up a market punters decide if they want to bet or not.i have always been against credit gambling because 99% get into trouble they cant handle and go bankrupt or families are broken and worst of all they end up in jail after turning to selling dope to fund their gambling.
There was a team of regular young blokes in their 30s in the early 80s from Newtown who were punting in 100s and when winning 1000s then they got into drug supplying and became 20/30k punters overnight and every single one of them finished in jail all because they could not control their punting.
Its a ruthless game when your not a winner and you MUST learn to punt with ONLY what you can afford to lose

Donut shops have loyalty cards. Buy five get the sixth one free etc.

Not sure too many heroin dealers actually give credit to end users given the client base have a habit of dropping dead or being thrown in jail.

Of course at the end of the day it's your own responsibility. But you can't deny it can be very difficult for some people not become addicted.

I really think giving people credit to bet with should be illegal.

Society is awash with people stealing from family and friends to gamble. I used to think it was an adrenalin rush thing, but that may be trivialising it. Yet another ugly side is what happens to people who can't pay bookies or loan sharks, I dare say not all methods of debt recovery involve the civil courts.

Sportsbet rang me about six weeks ago, asking why I wasn't betting with them anymore...I told them I always take a couple of months off at least once a year to refresh my thinking and prove to myself I am not addicted to it...there was a pronounced silence from their end...then he asked would I like to deposit some money...I said "when I'm good and ready.."...he then proceeded to re-check all my details...

 talk about snoopy...

wasn't offered any credit but was inundated with free bet offers for the next four weeks...

made them happy...back in the saddle...

Very complex Mr Manewer .      Every family experiences members who have a problem of compulsive personality of some kind .
Almost impossible to help most .
take away the tab they find a poker machine or online poker / casino.
Take away the alcohol they drink paint /metho/ or snort.
What is the answer ...      It certainly isn't to stop James Packer from investing 10 billion in Australia and sending him offshore.

I have been with IAS for a year now, and never got anything for free until yesterday, when they gave me a free $6 bet to be placed on sports...seriously $6 whopping dollars. I honestly didn't know the significance of this!!

Fact 1. People that bet with Internet coporates are losing punters.
Fact 2. 0.7% of the population bets with a reckless addition.

But my mail is the deal is done.
