Don't know but I backed him at the Valley last start and he was very unlucky.

Should of had something on him today and didnt and pays close to 20-1.

He's a strange one but does decend from a English Oaks winner who was imported into Australia back in the 1860's.  Her daughter Rose of Denmark produced Florence who won the AJC and VRC Derby, AJC Champagne S, VRC Oaks and Queensland Derby, Horatio winner of the Great Metropolitan (early Metropolitan H) and Hamlet who won the VRC St Legers S, AJC St legers S, AJC Sires' Produce, Champagne S etc.  So staying and miler two year olds in a bit of a mix - just like this fellow.

But since those early days the family has proven to be more speed orientated but it makes you wonder how many were tried over a distance once they showed they could win at that sprinter/miler distance.

Don't forget that More Than Ready sired Benicio winner of the 2005 Victorian Derby, also out of a Danehill mare. I am sure that Prized Icon is a far superior racehorse though.

The dam [Tropical Affair] went to Zabeel, produced Matras, who won 6 races and 198k, including a Group 3.

One of her foal, Best Of The Rest [by Northern Meteor] has won a 35k 2100m Class 4, and two 65k Saturday QLD Metro races at 2100m and 2200m.

But you look at the family on the first dam page, and there is plenty of performers, including plenty of black type, but nearly all the race performances have been at no longer then 1600m, and a fair chunk of it is 2yo and 3yo racing, suggesting the family as an affinity for being early performers, which probably explains why he ran 3rd in the breeders plate on October 3rd 2015.

First link is his yearling page, and the second link is a half sister by Don Eduardo, who Gooree Stud sold for only 55k in May this year, which i seriously don't get, they knew how good Prized Icon was, 55k seems like a bargain for the buyer.

Matras's 6 wins were between 1300m and 1600m.

This forum really needs an edit function.

You might have heard already but at this stage he is going to the Australian Guineas. Small possibility of him running in the Randwick if the meeting is transferred.

Never stood a chance with that sweetheart on board.

Did well to finish where it did to be fair.

Dual Group One winner Prized Icon will join the stallion roster at Kooringal Stud in the NSW Riverina.

The winner of the 2016 Champagne Stakes at two, Prized Icon returned to claim an historic Victoria Derby for James Cummings who became the fourth generation of his family to lead in the winner of the blue riband.

By More Than Ready out of Tropical Affair, Prized Icon has won more than $2 million for his owner, Eduardo Cojuangco.

Prized Icon’s 2019 fee will be $11,000 and he will stand at Kooringal alongside Duporth, Magic Albert and The Brothers War.
