That time of year again, feel free to add.

Promising rising 3yo Free of Debt will be missing the spring carnival. Has gone sore after a trial a couple of weeks ago. Will require a 3 month spell.

I believe the reason he was able to be entered in the U.K. Race is that its only a 1 month ban for a bled compared to 3 here.

The Lonsdale Cup was held on 23 August. Dee Ex Bee was subsequently entered for the Doncaster Cup on 13 September, just three weeks later.

Django Freeman out of spring

Highly regarded import Django Freeman needs surgery to remove a bone chip from a knee and will not race until the middle of next year.

Trainer Robert Hickmott said the injury occurred at Caulfield on Friday morning, with a later x-ray confirming the need for surgery.

"He looks to have hyperextended his knee in slow work so there's a nice little chip there," a disappointed Hickmott said. "There's no degenerative knee issue so it's just one of those little accidents.

"He came back (off the track) and I was about to put his ice boots on and gave his knee a bit of a flex and got the vets straight in and they x-rayed it."

The German horse was considered a genuine chance in races like the Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate off the back of some strong juvenile form and following his run for second in the German Derby in July.

Hickmott said that in time, the horse will recover fully.

"Probably four months off," he said concerning the potential time it could take before the horse can be worked again.

"He'll have surgery and he'll need that long so we'll look at a Queensland Carnival in the winter."
