Maddie Raymond was running the show at Warrnambool for Weir.
She’s now in charge for Smith.
Stable is full of ex Weir and Weir purchased yearlings.

How can this be allowed?

Weir was clearly pre training BHB if he is ready to trial within 3 weeks.

Stewards need to shut this down before we have another Weir situation.

Date Posted: 02 Jul 2019 at 4:52pm
Hahaha. The sad thing is, if the Stewards raided this lot every second day of the week, there would be people out there saying the stable is harshly done by.

How do you know that disco?

Because of bods like you makes it hard, mentally hard to pursue  a given profession.

He may well be enjoying what he is now doing.

Still with his cattle and horses.

Look at the AFL players unable to cope mentally; social media vigilantism? Kills of the sports they allegedly love.

Slightly informative Isaac however it doesn’t list all trainers previous indiscretions.
What did you use arsenic for when training?

Posted By: Softy
Date Posted: 07 Jul 2019 at 12:45pm
Actually Isaac, I reckon it may have something to do with global warming, or something.
For some reason horses all round Oz took a liking to treated posts at about the same time.
Miraculous how these things always seem to happen together isn’t it?

Posted By: horlicks

I read an article from the stewards about the arsenic cases and their opinion was that testing could only recently detect it at the levels being seen lately.

I & doubtless many others use Jurocyl, top syuff Smile

COMPOSITION

Sodium arsanilate 50 mg/mL

ACTIONS
  • JUROCYL is a safe, pentavalent organic arsenic tonic of low toxicity providing rapid response.
  • JUROCYL promotes healthy skin and coat growth.
  • JUROCYL stimulates appetite in picky eaters.
  • JUROCYL is of value as a general tonic in anaemias, debility, stress, illness & recovery.

JUROCYL is a pentavalent organic arsenical compound with strong tonic properties. JUROCYL has a marked effect on the blood vessels of both skin and gastro-intestinal blood vessels.
JUROCYL is rapidly absorbed, with a prompt and visible effect. Arsenic in the organic form has long been known and respected for its tonic properties. This pentavalent form is not harmful to animals at recommended doses, and is well tolerated with no local or general reaction.

INDICATIONS

JUROCYL is indicated to stimulate appetite in poor eaters, particularly those horses suffering stress related to hard training & competition.
As a general tonic, JUROCYL is valuable in the treatment of anaemias, weakness and debility, emaciation, and skin conditions. JUROCYL is particularly effective at promoting healthy coat growth, and encouraging seasonal changes in body coat because it improves blood flow to skin. A course of JUROCYL in August / September (Southern Hemisphere) will produce dramatic improvements in dull, lifeless coats as the season changes. For Northern Hemisphere, give during appropriate months for winter coat drop in those countries.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

Give JUROCYL by sterile intramuscular injection
Adult Horses:
Full Course 10 mL weekly for 4 - 6 weeks.
Intensive Course 10 mL daily for maximum 10 days.
Yearlings:
Full Course 5 mL weekly.
Intensive Course 5 mL daily for maximum 10 days.
Foals:
Full Course 2.5 mL weekly.
Intensive Course 2.5 mL daily for maximum 10 days.

JUROCYL is regularly used in combination with VAM to stimulate appetites and improve blood counts in stressed and recuperating horses. JUROCYL may be used with all Nature Vet products with the exclusion of Ferrocyl, as required.

That may be so Gay but I think he stated he didn’t use that product.
Anyway I just found it surprising the number of trainers with treated pine posts that didn’t return positives.

Posted By: Isaac soloman
Date Posted: 07 Jul 2019 at 9:57pm
Never used those products. Didnt have to.
Trained from paddocks, bush work, didnt go to the track.
My "arsenic"? plenty of hay.
Thought fi you had to use that stuff was like chasing tails.
Feel the hooves for warmth; if cool on the right track.
Had plenty of winners, metro and provincial.
Asked a young women giving a "calming" paste to a horse before she floated it if she thought it worked and she said no......

Most with pine posts would integrate electric fencing if they had 1/2 brain, knowing how palatable most horses find them & the expense of replacement not to mention removing the temptation to windsuck.

And the other half with brains would avoid using pine logs altogether, especially if you train racehorses as testing machines are now VERY sensitive for arsenic, amongst other substances.

Posted By: Softy
Date Posted: 08 Jul 2019 at 1:11pm
That is true Gay3, or at the very least painting something unpalatable on said fences, which I had to do a bit as a child.
Maybe it is just the lazy trainers who got done for arsenic

If a horse wants to eat something, it will get eaten.
A good electric fence can control the urge though.

Posted By: Gay3
Date Posted: 08 Jul 2019 at 2:18pm
An electric fence regularly testing at 6.5 - 7.5 will stop any horse from even venturing near as a pulse of 1 will show at a metre away, even further if using the newer copper wires.
Hardwood is near impossible to source these days so unless you're a millionaire, pine is the most cost effective & available timber.

We had a recently deceased mare that just loved pine posts.  We had wired standoffs and she'd sneak her head over or under the wire, and when she'd finished they looked like thin hour glasses with just the tiniest of waists wherever she chewed.

Interestingly enough she wasn't a wind-sucker and don't really think she enjoyed the taste.Just boredom when she didn't have a foal on her, so we's throw some rubber basketballs into the paddock which sometimes helped.

Creosote available in 20lt drums in S.A.
Mixed it 50/50 with sump oil on pine & hardwood for 40 years. Always worked.
Also had 1 hotwire at flank height pulsing at 4.8 & 3 Bayco's.   Fences looked light but because of very good soil conductivity horses were very respectful
I went to that system because it was easy & I got sick of treating cut legs
In areas with long, long hot dry periods conductivity would be an issue & therefore fences would have very little ground to live wire pulse.

MALAGUERRA THRIVES UNDER SMITH

Owner Bruno Micalizzi is delighted with the physical condition of Malaguerra after the Magnus gelding completing a solid trial performance at Lark Hill on Monday.

Stepping out for his first official hit out under new trainer, Lindsey Smith, Malaguerra, worked to the line strongly when second to Rebel King in a 950m heat.

A dual Group 1 champion in the BTC Cup (1200m) and Darley Classic (1200m), Malaguerra has won 12 races from 34 starts for prize money of almost $2 million.

Previously with Peter Gelagotis in Melbourne, Malaguerra transferred to Smith after an 11th placing in the All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick last April.

“The work this morning proved and was an example of the Lindsey Smith touch,” Micalizzi told The Races WA.

“He came through the trial well and hit the line nicely and there is a bit to work with.

“He has got a nice rounded shape that I hadn’t seen previously.

“That’s why I brought him to Lindsey. I had heard about it and now I have seen it.

“He definitely has that Lindsey Smith touch and has enjoyed his stay here.”

Micalizzi, a former cray fisherman before turning to horse ownership, said Malaguerra would be heading back across the Nullarbor to target an eastern states campaign.

“There are a couple there, one in Adelaide and maybe one in Melbourne at the moment,” Micalizzi said.

“We will see how he comes through this (trial) and he will have another trial in Melbourne, but he goes to Melbourne on Wednesday.

“It’s step by step because he is a rising eight-year-old.

“He hasn’t be taxed, but has had a few niggles along the way.

“But there is still a lot of horse there I believe.

“I feel he has a bit more to give.”

Lindsay Smith Warrnambool experiment - 9 starts 6 winners. 100% in the first 3. He is a class above Weir.......

Very good reason why you’ve never seen him interviewed on television.

Smith, Weir & Class shouldn’t be used in the one sentence.

Ok he's going gangbusters and one might wonder.  However the presumption of innocence is guaranteed under law until proven otherwise and until such time he's entitled to be given the benefit of doubt.

So what?

Are you suggesting owners are party to thus far totally unsubstantiated allegations by anonymous TBV members?

Lindsey is going great.
However he is not the top trainer in WA. The common denominator for the top trainers is a rural setting and deep sand to work in, which eastern states doesnt have, unless you go the beach.
Darren modeled one of his training establishments on Lindsey's place in Perth, deep sand to work in for one.
Would imagine some in the Victorian training ranks taking notice.
Would some posters on here be rival trainers, on the jealous side?
Happens all the time.

Haha. Darren modelled his regime around cheating. Tubing, Jigging, and from all reports race fixing and Synthetic EPO. Oh, and throw a little bit of Beach work in.

The beach is just a cover story for all of the gear Weiry was pumping into their veins.

When is that going to become proof positive?
Otherwise you have no idea of training a racehorse.

Plonker, comments like that are why this forum is dying, you seem to know a lot about Weiry , still no one mentions the family that's so far up the establishment they will never get caught, drinks and meals with stewards

I’m happy to wait until the AFP put their charges forward. Then we will see how far off the money some of us “coffee shop” gossipers are.

It’s quite simple and do not know why all the conspiracy theories? L Smith is one of Australia’s best horseman/trainers ! I think most good WA trainers have copied or learnt from his ideas. Darren Weir made no secret about how much he admired smiths training methods over the years. Warrnambool was only a small replication on what L Smith has in Perth!! That’s also why wier set up new place in Moulden! Didn’t he report he was shipping in truck loads of sand to replicate his training methods?? I’m pretty sure he has been very upfront. NOW!! We can see why!!

Then why tube, jig, epo, and fix races if all you need is a couple of truck loads sand?
